For Flickr Group Roulette and Things You May Not Know About Me.

When I was twelve years old, sick with a serious sinus infection, I realized the left side of my face wasn't working properly. Suddenly I could wink- I've never been able to wink properly (there's another thing you don't know about me). By day's end, the entire left side of my face wasn't working. I was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy. Thankfully, the healing process is much faster when the patient is younger- and only lasted 6 weeks. But at the time, it felt like an eternity.

And there you have it.

I took some shots of jeans at Kohl's because FGR is focusing today on Me and My Blue Jeans. Yeah, they were OK but not up to snuff.

At home, I asked Jamie where these old comfy jeans I had were. The ones with the hole in a location suitable to FGR's new 18+ status.

She pauses for a moment, then reminds me of the pictured jeans. These are the jeans I was wearing when I had my accident [don't look unless you have a strong stomach]. They had to cut my jeans to get them off my bloody stump of a leg.

So I put them on and I noticed right away that there was a problem.

On June 1, they fit. Today, they were 2" too tight, and 2" is being pretty kind.

Yes, I was hurt and have been unable to exercise. Yes, I have been struggling with medical issues since then. But really, is there ever any excuse to put on 2" in 4 months? Ever?

The reality is that I am not who I want to be. That makes me sad.

It's time to do something, and my first inclination is to grab a beer. :((

For FGR : Mikey's Last 365 Hurrah

65 days down, 300 to go!!!!

I think in a roundabout way I have managed to meet all four criteria in this mammoth FGR task.

The first - Quotes and Quotations - one of my favourite quotes is in fact printed on my underwear but you cant quite read it due to all the jumping!! It reads "Boys are stupid - throw rocks at them". Love it.

The second - Jump For Mikey (The Jedi of Jump?) - well here I am clearly jumping my ass off!!

The third - Half Nekkid Thursdays - see aforementioned underwear (still wating for my invitation to this group to be accepted...).

And the fourth - Black and White Self Portraits.

So I think I did ok. I couldnt choose which pic to use and so I called in a little help from FD's Flickr toys. I know the three close up images are noisy but I used ISO800 and the usual lighting problems from the apartment reared their ugly heads again. I also quite like the noise as it hides a multitude of sins ;D

I got very dizzy, hot and lightheaded doing this but it was loads of fun. And well done Mikey!!

FGR today brings us Numberwang, based on the hilarious comedy game show. I'd never seen it, but I was inspired today to show you some of my favorite mystical numbers.

I had to do a report in my high school math class. I decided to do it on math prodigies. Because I am ridiculously brilliant (among other things), I learned to find the fifth root of numbers who are whole.

Put another way, take any two-digit number, raise it to the fifth power (X*X*X*X*X) and tell me that number. At the time, I could give you the answer in less than two seconds.

Part of our report involved giving a presentation. I borrowed my dad's $300 calculator (you can get better these days at the 99 Cent store) because it could do math up to 10 digits. I let someone in the class pick any two digit number, do the math, and tell me the product. I repeated the number and wrote it on the black board, and wrote the fifth root immediately afterward. Writing the number out just gave me time to calculate it myself.

Even the teacher was amazed. She eventually ordered me out of the room, had the kids write ten numbers on the board, then had me come back in. If I could find all ten fifth roots in less than a minute, I'd get an A. I think it took me 30 seconds, which was mostly how long it took the two kids to write what I said.

I got an A because I was ridiculously brilliant.

College has since solved that problem. :-(

Anyways, if that doesn't deserve a Numberwang, what does?!

For FGR - The Great Moments in Family History.

This is not out of the norm for our normal family portraits anyway. We kinda wanted to do the whole Simpson's theme with it, but I'm definitely no Marge, Billy's definitely not Bart, and well, Jay could be Homer, but he's smarter, way smarter, and has more hair. :)

He's not choking Billy at all, I assure you... I am choking both of them out right now by making Sauerbraten. heh.

Flickr Group Roulette is doing Forced Perspective today, and I really don't have anything in me -- I'm lazy and non-creative tonight. Hence, the overly-strong texture (at f/7.1 at iso 1600 it was really noisy) and cheesy Kids In The Hall reference.

Oooohh, what a fun Fugger challenge today!

As many of you know, I love Christmas. Some have even called me a Christmas "freak," and if by freak they mean one who enjoys old timey Christmas music (think Nat King Cole and Otis Redding)...one who looks forward to decorating the tree as soon as the Halloween decorations are put away (I have enough restraint to wait until 12/1)... or one who enjoys wrapping presents and placing them strategically under the tree...

Then I will proudly let my Christmas freak flag fly!

I love when you wake up expecting another really hot day...you step outside and it is in the 70's. I love when you can see how beautiful all the colors of nature really are....

Today, at work I wanted to walk around the building to see if there was any photo opp's....and sure enough there was!!! I LOVE THAT.....that in and of itself , I can call a joy of life.

Any connoisseurs will know that this isn't real duct tape, rather it is gaffer's tape, and all I had available. I got the idea from my previous duct tape installment, although with less of the hostage feel.

Unaltered Vanity for Flickr Roulette's Celebrity Lookalikes

The story behind this being: Where I used to work I'd get a lot of comments saying that I look like Ann Hathaway (from Devil wears Prada) My mama swears by this, but I tend to disagree. So, this afternoon I tried to mimic one of her glamor shots, fan blowing back the hair and all.

Unfortunately for me, I do not have a tripod, and often rely on a precarious construction of common household items. There have been a number of close calls with the endangerment of my little ol' cybershot- but so far she's only come out with a few scratches- That is, until today.

I can't fix her myself, but remain hopeful. I'm a sentimental fool, and this camera has literally been to the other side of the world and back with me- so I'm hoping above all that it's a fixable thing. In the meantime, my above awesome Brother has lent/given me his camera (From the same Christmas, so happily the exact same kind).

So here's my baby's last shot from today, but hopefully not her last ever.

Salut! Here's a toast to coffee, because without it, I couldn't function in the mornings. Also, sporting my knit cap, that has been photgraphed on me before, since it is all cold and snowy here in Quebec.

I'm exhausted, and I'm still learning how to use my new camera and such. I love using it, but I'm trying to read up on how to use it better. Maybe, hopefully, I'll be able to be more imaginative when my vacation starts.

For FGR and Towel Day

(Thank God I took this pic today or I would be purty close to missing a 365 shot,LOL)

I had such big FGR plans, none of which planned out...basically because I fell asleep...only to wake up to hosting a BBQ with friends:)).

So, here is my Towel Day shot, my ode to "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". I did actually carry this towel around with me all day:)). Here I am at Miss H's cheerleading ( otherwise known as a football game) , in the stands, taking a shot of my towel. And yes, I had to explain myself to the people around me:). It also came to an open house, I fell asleep on it by the lake, reading Pico Iyer, another traveller, and it weeded and watered my backyard with me. It sat on the counter with me while I made guacamole and I am sitting on it right now. I do feel so much more prepared with it:). Which is basically an illusion. Me being prepared that is.

Tried to come up with one favourite Douglas Adams quote...but there are so many:).

The one that made me giggle tonight is this one though...

"Why do you need to think? Can't we just sit and go budumbudumbudum with our lips for a bit?" - Mostly Harmless

Which is what I think I am going to go do:))
