A family I'm really fond of lives way to the west of me and I'll probably never meet them IRL. We enjoy getting to know bits of each other on here, though. My parents have a photo of their dog, for goodness sakes, on the refrigerator. So the story is that we never know what is going to make a difference in someone's life. Sammy dog didn't know his picture would end up in a house in Virginia. My parents smile when they see him. Bet Kirby and Jodi didn't know that would happen.

For those who may be confused:

To perform jazz hands, the performer's hands are opened with palms facing forward, and the fingers are splayed. The position of the arms can vary. Forearms are usually extended upward, or the forearms may extend forward with the elbows held close to the body, or forearms may extend to the sides or downward.

The hands may then be shaken slightly, as if holding a tambourine. However, this is not a necessary part of the jazz hands action.

If the arms are outstretched with fingers wiggling up and down this gesture is sometimes referred to as spirit fingers, as mentioned in the 2000 film Bring It On.

Yeah, so FGR created another multi-challenge. Check the link to see what it is about. I was "inspired" enough to take these shots, but otherwise am not following the guidelines.

My Ex "got" the kids for Thanksgiving, which is my favorite holiday. With just the two of us remaining, Jamie and I decided to blow off making our own meal. Instead, we rode to Blessing, TX and the Hotel Blessing Cafe for their luncheon buffet. I thought it appropriate to be in a place called Blessing when I was feeling so blessed.

I feel so thankful to have Jamie in my life. I mean, look at it. She not only went along with the Hotel Blessing idea, but rode Roxie with me. (Note: we had a good chance of rain forecasted, so she willingly rode knowing she might get wet.) Jamie knows how much I love riding Roxie, and she is doing it with me, which makes it just so much better.

That's just a small sliver of a reason why I am very thankful God put us together.

As we stood in line for the luncheon buffet, we talked to a couple from Rockport. That reminded Jamie that she wanted to take me there. So we decided on the spur of the moment to go there after leaving lunch. That added 150 miles to our ride for the day.

Just before going into Rockport, we stopped at the Goose Island State Park to visit the Big Tree. Until recently, it was thought to be the champion live oak in Texas with a trunk 11' in diameter.

We took a few portraits in the gorgeous grove, and you'll see others later. But for FGR purpose, I chose one that a) is shitty, and b) I like very much. It breaks the rules of portraiture, but I find it visually appealing. A happy accident. It is SOOC.

Today’s FGR Task was "Know your rights" based around the group four freedoms. That got me thinking; I suppose one of the things I take for granted in the UK is a fair judiciary, too fair some would say! So this shot represents the freedom that I take for granted and that if I lived in a different culture I might not have.

Lightroom: convert to greyscale, direct positive preset, crop, post crop vignette, use brush tool with +2 exp to bring out bars more

Strobist: single snooted 580EXII @ 1/16 to camera right, snoot was made from a rollup Velcro screwdriver bag and was roughly 20cm (8 inches) long and about 2 meters away from my hands, the bars were 3 lightstands lined up in a row, the background is the black side of a popup reflector. All ambient light in the room was overpowered by the flash. The black strip to the left is the shutter catching up with the flash, I did it intentionally as my wrist was catching too much light from the flash and distracting from my hands. Sorry about the lack of a setup shot I totally forgot until I had packed up :(

FGR picked music in my mind as the daily theme. I went through the day unaware of the pick, but listening to muisc. It is always in my mind.

I worked late and was listening to RUSH, enjoying especially the drum virtuosity of Neil Peart. So when I learned of the FGR pick after finishing work, I sat down and drummed a little Tom Sawyer in Rock Band. I wish that RB had Freewill, but what can you do?

My shoulder's a fair bit better today (there was little pain in lifting my arm for this shot!). I should be back to commenting properly in a few days - I promise!

Even though I'll freely admit to being a pure-blooded American mutt (all puns intended), I am most connected to my Irish heritage. Throughout Ireland's history there has always been struggle and strife in pursuit of freedom.

Though I have enjoyed freedom all my life, through the music of Ireland I know its cost. I wouldn't hesitate to take up arms to aid my country if it was faced with a real imminent threat attacking our borders.

A good book in a good series, and a saying on one of my favorite shirts. A goodbye saying for Mikey since he's leaving. I know that I don't know him, but a nice farewell is due anyway. Today is his last day of doing two years of 365 Days photos.

"I've always been afraid to die, but I think I'm more afraid to live..." - Billy Corgan (The Aeroplane Flies High). I used this as my senior quote when I graduated high school, and still to this day, I believe it sums up the way I am. I'm too afraid to let go and live. I'm working on that, and hopefully one day soon I'll get to "L-I-V-I-N'" :)

I tried so many times to get a much sharper picture without the blur, but I'm quite new/amateur at taking photos. I'm hoping that I'll get better and better at it since I love taking pictures. I'm not making excuses though! This photo does make me chuckle though, and the more and more I look at it, the better I feel. Oh, and my hips hurt. :D

Flickr Group Roulette is doing My Favorite Word -- and I had a nasty time with it because there SO many good ones, but my favorites are really quite a pain to photograph:

- cunt (most amazing curse word ever, though this gay guy won't be posting THAT picture)

- cacophony is brilliant

- cyclopentanoperhydrophenanthrene is certainly the longest word

that I can pronounce and spell :)

- melliflouous rolls off the tongue beautifully

- juxtaposition always makes me watn to talk with my hands

(a close second that I might still shoot)

...but I finally chose exsanguination. Fun to say, but likely not fun to experience.

Of course, I went to shoot this... NOTHING red in the house... so, the chocolate syrup wins :)

On Saturday FSU baseball played against Stamford in round one of the College World Series, and unfortunately we lost. It was a tough game; we've never played a Pac 10 school that early in the bracket. It was pretty exciting for the most part until they started walloping us at the end. GEEZ. We play Miami tomorrow (Monday) in an elimination round, so we'll see if we can bounce back! (And if we play like I know we can, then we'll kick asssss... because Buster Posey just won the Dick Howser Award, w00t!)

Yeah, so FGR today picked Portmanteau, which is the smooshing together of two familiar words to create a new and descriptive one.

But what I really wanted to say here is that I watched South Park last night for the first time. Their "Played It Perfectly" episode started with Obama's "stirring" acceptance speech (given less than two days earlier!), then went on to show that Obama and McCain are not who they said they were. I came to realize that he probably isn't the Anti-Christ (1); he's just a jewel thief! You gotta watch it. The full episode is on-line.

I also realized that most of my feelings lately were caused by the over-the-top Gobama stupidity. (Gobama is another portmanteau, of course). The episode did an excellent job of showing how really blindly stupid most of them are—the ones who are not knowingly evil, of course.

Too, I have been reading post-election analysis. Obama is probably well-intentioned, if naive and wrong-headed. It's Reid and especially Pelosi we need to fear. I don't know if Obama has the ability to stop their ruinous excesses, but I think he might try to govern from the middle and that is OKish.

And finally, I was reminded that I live in a State that can legally secede (2). Texas is still a haven for conservatism. When you are ready to live somewhere sane, move here.(3)

So today, I am filled with a renewed hope. I am coming back to the light, like the center of my image is coming out of the lomotastic border.

Notes:

1 - For real! There is a very good chance that Obama isn't the Anti-Christ. He probably only means to steal my money and my children's future as part of Liberal doctrine. He is probably not malevolant. But really, I was reminded that I need to live my life as if Obama is the Anti-Christ, because then I am doing the right things. Christ's return will be a glorious thing, and we need to be prepared every day for that.

2 - Before Lincoln "saved the Union", States were assumed to be more powerful than the Federal government and most thought they could leave the United States. He did many good things, but diminishing our rights wasn't one of them. Among other things, I am stumped by some Liberals denouncing Bush's legal activities while ignoring Lincoln's gross abuse of power. Texas can secede because we joined the Union via treaty. We can also split into five separate states, with 10 Senators versus the 2 we have now.

3 - Did you know that Texas has accounted for nearly half the job growth these last few years?

For FGR - We are not amused...

Believe it or not, this is pretty much my blank face anyway. I always look as if I'm not amused, or pissed off, when in actuality, it's quite the opposite.

But...

There were so many things I was not amused with today in general... The first shots I took of myself today, bleh. Next, at lunch I tried to take them again, even with help from Genevieve, horrible. Even with this one here... I'm not satisfied with it. I didn't do any editing with it either. Hell, I know that most of the time, it's nothing too fancy to look at, but I'm not that talented, or for that matter, imaginative, or even that attractive. I did say that I would see this though until the end, and only... my God... 200 days to go.

Lunch took forever, nearly 2 hours from leaving the office, getting our food, eating it at the restaurant, and then returning to work again. What took the most time wasn't getting there, it was from when we placed the order until we were served... over an hour. Then getting back to the office today, making I don't know how many calls with the typical responses. This part of my job is the hardest, and I'm not trying to pester people because I like to, it's because I need to put food on my table. It's so taxing to be yelled at and hung up on for hours. I so can't wait until this is done in about 2 weeks, then it's calling people who are expecting my call. I'm not even trying to sell them anything at all!

Now, I'm sitting here tired, and not really interested in updating my photo stuff. I'm not going to edit some of the other shots I took today, and I'm probably going to be lazy and use this as my blog post for today. As soon as I'm done with this, I'm going to take a nice hot shower and jump into my warm cozy bed... there's only a few more hours left until I'm back out there on the chopping block.

Today, FGR asked to show our favorite body part. I like my hands best, because they are so darn fumctional. I went to the Republic of Texas bike rally today. and I figured I would get a photo of my hand holding a beer.

Lo! and Behold! I stumbled upon this sign saying The Shocker. Ha! I tok a picture of my hand making the shocker. When I did, I was confronted by the booth's owner... who has trademarked the shocker! Actually, he's trademarked the "catch phrase". Ha ha ha!

I told him I'd send him my stream, and he'd put one of my shocking photos on The Shocker website.
