Today, Flickr Group Roulette is invading the Beautiful Mistakes Group. So, basically we are being asked to produce a photo that's a mistake, which is difficult to do since the photo is intentional in nature. So I asked myself, "How do you make an intentional mistake?".

The answer is, you can't.

So I went with the next best option and did a play on words.................. I'll explain what I mean...

I decided to grill a steak tonight. Usually, when I grill up a steak, I like to pour A1 steak sauce on it. As you can see, I attempted to pour some on, but I missed the steak....................

Get it?

Missed Steak?!

Beautiful Mistakes?!

Get it?

Huh?

Now THAT'S creative!

Flickr Group Roulette: Pirates vs Ninjas

Honorable Shellback: October 16, 1989, Latitude 000 Longitude 046E

Order of Magellan 1990

Realm of the Golden Dragon 1987

Yes I am a pirate, two hundred years too late

The cannons don't thunder, theres nothing to plunder

I'm an over forty victim of fate

Arriving too late, arriving too late.

I've done a bit of smugglin, I've run my share of grass

I made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away so fast

Never meant to last, never meant to last.

And I have been drunk now for over two weeks

I passed out and I rallied and I sprung a few leaks

But I got stop wishin', got to go fishin'

Down to rock bottom again

Just a few friends, just a few friends.........

For FGR MIrror Love

I stood looking at this mirror with a tube of flaming red lipstick (that I made a special trip to the store to get for this photo) in hand waiting for something to come to me that is extraordinarily witty to write, and all my tiny pea brain kept saying to me was I was going to ruin this lipstick. HAAHAH, so there you have it.

For FGR - I Love Paper Fun!

I wanted to try something along the lines of something that would be plastered in your locker... I'm pretty impressed with the work I did, and later, I may work on it a bit more to see if I can get a shadow in there. Hell, I even made the scotch tape in photoshop!

This is a recreation of a photo that my best friend took of me in high school, sitting by our lockers. We shared our locker our senior year, and we had this big star left over from homecoming hanging up in our locker. The star I have here is also from the same thing... I don't know where the big one went... well... anyway, she wanted to take my picture, and I didn't want her to, so I held up the big star to hide my face, and the only thing that was visible on my face was my eye. I was planning on using that picture to do a similar thing this morning, but I have seemed to misplaced it!

To make a long story short, I did this for her, just something to make her happy. I don't know what to get for her for Christmas, but I do know what she wants. Unfortunately, I can't deliver myself to the states. :(

Taken yesterday (Monday) for Flickr Group Roulette and the Colors Not Found in Nature group. I was so upset about this because I was ready to post it at 4:30 yesterday, but my computer was being so slow (it's dying) that I only got it uploaded under "private" by 4:40 when I had to leave for work. Then I was going to try and get my title and tags done when I got home at 11, but my computer was being slow again and I fell asleep waiting on it. So here we are a day late. And I'm going to the Mac store today to replace this PC p.o.s.

FGR: Hiding Behind Hands

There's no way to hide it...I LOVE my dog! For non-dog people, I know it's hard to believe why and how a human could develop so much affection for a domestic animal. BUT, hear me out:

I raised Jonas since he was 3 days old. His mum had a genetic condition that did not allow her to lactate properly, causing her to suffer from extreme calcium depletion and body shakes. As a result, I had to bottle feed him (and his two siblings) from day 3 onward, until he was ready for solid foods. Jonas was my real-life laboratory experiment and probably the closest thing I have yet to experience to raising my own child (which I hope to do someday...)

For the FGR challenge - A picture inspired by a song for the Songs group combined with the intention of the group Secret Life of Toys. With a PAC twist. In a motivational-poster style.

The background is a jacket draped over a chair. I used a regular old ordinary lamp for my light source. I tilted the lamp shade so the light would spill on the toys. To stabilize the camera I put it on a book on the chair seat in front of the toys. I used the self timer on the camera. The toys I've had for years and I keep because people gave them to me. I've never bought a stuffed animal. Not a fan. I did, however, buy the zombie finger puppets. I love those.

For FGR and Let's Drink on Flickr Monday.

I really, really, REALLY cannot tell you how much I wanted/needed some form of alcohol tonight.

But if I had opened the bottle, the photo never would have gotten done and I'd be passed out on the kitchen floor in my jammies, wondering what the hell happened.

So I made tea.

*sigh* It was really really hot in this shot.

FGR wanted us to imply toplessness. That's harder than it sounds, especially if you do it while mostly occupied with something else.

Am I topless or not? I'll let you guess, but will apologize for the crap clutter. This is a total shit picture, so I'll have to distract you with bokeh or tea party pictures later. Sorry.

For Flickr Group Roulette and Conspiracy. Do you think Mario ever looks over his shoulder with a sneaky feeling that he's being manipulated? That he's victim of a conspiracy?

This didn't turn out like I'd planned at all. Who cares. It's me and Mario, and this is about as much time I've spent in his company lately. I enjoy playing on the Wii, but alas, I rarely have time for it.

For FGR for Playing Cards.

A second after I started pondering how I would do for this challenge, this idea popped into my head. Been a fan of Penn & Teller, I had to use something showing the 3 of Clubs. I've done card tricks in the past using the same card.

I used the Hello Kitty cards (I never use them) just for something different from the typical Hoyle brand that I use for either tricks, or just for playing card games. The use of playing cards have always been a family tradition in one form or another.

Why is it used? According to P&T, the 3 of Clubs is easier to notice by a camera. Does it pop out the way it should? ;)

Ok, wow, ready for this? Ok, today for FGR it was Mikey aka DaSkinnyBlackMan day to pick a group which was Jump for Mikey (The Jedi of Jump), Half Nekkid Thursdays, Quotes and Quotations, and it had to be a Black and white self portrait . With that being said I said Fugg it, and I figured one more group wouldn't hurt, so I also did Happy Aloha Thursday - HAT

I think that just about covers all of them.

Oh yeah and the quote.... "What the fuck happened to the bed in here?!?!?!" - Tommy_V's Wife (9/18)

I just liked my expression on this one!

FGR asked to again do a forced perspective. I don't mind repeating groups that are a wee bit inventive.

I love how Casper decided to play with my prop. He's a cuter cat than I'll admit to Jamie. I like this old photo with Casper best; it's similar and the Magic Donkey liked it.

Yeah, this is a bit late to the group, but Jamie stole my film and wouldn't give back. :-(

FGR invades Random Fascinations

This one qualifies for a few reasons, such as: X-rays are fascinating, and teeth have always been a bit interesting to me, being exposed bone-like things that help you mash up your foods. Oh, another reason this pic is fascinating is because HOLY GOD WHAT THE EFF IS WRONG WITH MY LOWER WISDOM TEETH

For the love of poop, please view big and on black

I haven't been to the dentist in 10 years. I'd like to blame economic hardships instead of pure laziness, but who the hell really cares.

The dentist comes in and looks at the X-Rays and goes: Holy hell, kid! My teeth did the same thing! Good thing it isn't as serious as it looks.

I politely ask: What the hell are you talking about, you quack? Won't they push all my teeth together as they grow forward?

To which he very rudely replies: Actually, you're lucky. The forces of wisdom teeth are practically negligible compared the the forces you apply on your teeth simply by the way you talk, eat and sleep. These wisdoms aren't really doing anything negative to your mouth.

...what a dick.

FGR invades America Fuck Yeah

At this point, I don't care what lies we've got to tell people to get them to vote. Get out there and do it.

Oh and a big "eff you" to my real-life friends that explain their lack of voting by the "fact" that their candidate is already going to win in California. That's how we got into this mess 8 years ago, and then again in 4, assholes.

New Rule: If you don't vote, you have no right to complain to me for the next four years.

Fair enough?

The moment hangs in the air, stretched between two wills—one refusing to be stopped, the other refusing to let go. The ball carrier charges forward, eyes locked on the horizon, heart pounding like a war drum. But the defender meets him with unwavering resolve, arms outstretched, body bracing for impact.

Hair whips in the wind, breaths collide in the space between them, and time slows as the battle unfolds. Neither backs down. Neither yields. In this fleeting instant, the game is distilled into its purest form—strength against strength, heart against heart. It is not just about winning or losing. It is about proving that you were here, that you fought, that you gave everything.

FGR is doing the combo-group thing all month, where you have to do photos that meet two groups' criteria. I hate these things, so if I do them at all, I'm giving it one shot and that's it. You even get SOOC, I care so little.

**FGR examines Bodies**

Thats right, kids, it's time once again to raise awareness & money

to fight a leading cause of death among women world wide,

and have some fun along the way!

Who doesn't love boobies?

Save the Chi Chis!

and lord knows ya'll wanna em bigger

For FGR - Happy Birthday FGR!!!! Time to Kick It Old Skool!!!!!

Also added to Copycats (copied off this picture) and Chocohol!cs.

I tried to copy a couple of other shots, but my mouth was too small for one, and the other, I'm just not as pretty and talented as she is.

This isn't exactly like the original photographer, but I like it. :)

Yes, I am a huge chocohol!c. I have a stash in my room just full of chocolate, and it doesn't phase me to spend at least 20 bucks when buying the stuff. If I don't have any in the house, I go plum nuts. Honestly, after moving to Canada, I prefer their chocolate a lot more than American chocolate, hence, the Aero bar instead of a Hershey bar. I do try to let the bubbles melt. ;)

I swear that I am not caving to the hairy chest crowd. FGR asked today to show our t-shirts, and coincidentally it was cold enough that I needed one. So that's all this is. Promise.

I would never stoop to lurid means to attract views.

for Flickr Group Roulette: assignment T-Shirt Tuesday

a few years (and several pounds) ago this shirt use to encapsulate everything i was about.

but now, the smell of jager makes my stomach turn a bit. -- not to mention, i'm not much of a party girl anymore.

the shirt says "jagermeister: helping women lower their standards for years"

my friend bridgette made it for me.

Josh and I went to the GameOn! computer games exhibition in London today. Along with many playable classic arcade machines and home computers, there were demonstrations of the PS3 and the Wii.

Slightly unfair comparison of the two, I felt as the PS3 was showing what looked like a pretty dodgy rocky-terrain driving game (see here) on a 30" display while the Wii was showing Wii Tennis (arguably the best of all the Wii games to date) on both a 30" display and a massive projected display (120"?)!

The staff were also allowing people to basically jump the queue to play the Wii while the PS3 people had to wait for hours for their allotted time!

Needless to say, Nintendo were sponsoring the entire exhibition.

In spite of the above, however, I really wasn't impressed with the PS3 - just looks like a me-too product now with old games given a face-lift. I hope in time I'm proven wrong.

The storm rages, but the game does not pause. Water streaks through the air, mixing with mud and sweat, but the fight remains fierce. One surges forward, eyes locked on the try line, heart pounding with the rhythm of the rain. The other lunges, grasping with every ounce of effort, clinging to the moment where the game is won or lost.

The jerseys stretch, bodies collide, legs kick against the weight of resistance. Yet, for all the chaos, there is a clarity—a single goal, a singular drive, a battle that neither side is willing to surrender. The rain does not wash away their determination; it only makes the moment more unforgettable.

FGR invades Drawing On Faces because I fucking told it to.

This is good advice.

Very serious, very good advice.

View Larger if you are an old person and have troubles reading such astute advice. Then go eat some oatmeal. Old people love oatmeal.

For FGR - I think I might be a Cylon.

At first, I was a little confused, then disappointed, and a lot of other emotions about doing this challenge, and honestly, I was to the point where I did give up. So, I was in the process of just doing a normal SP today with my husband's pac-man hat on and after seeing the result of some of the shots, that familiar light bulb went off over my head. I asked my husband if he thought it looked like me and his response was - "No, except for the shirt."

So, does it qualify as something that could potentially be a Cylon, or did I fail? I'm not exactly thin enough, or sexy enough to pull off what a textbook Cylon could be.

FGR invades 90’s Pop Culture

That’s it, Flickr. I’m bringing him back. Straight out of the 90’s comes…

Artie – The Strongest Man In the World

You may remember him from the old Nickelodeon show Pete & Pete. A show, by the way, that happens to be the best show that ever was, is, or will be on television.

Respect.

For Flickr Group Roulette - Learn about Lupus-Purple Photos for Lupus Awareness

From Dave77459

One of my dearest Flickr friends has Lupus. Her condition is such that she is rarely on Flickr any more. I miss her... she is an amazing person and talent.

Lupus Awareness Month used to conflict with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Consequently, the Lupus Foundation of America moved the Lupus Awareness Month to May. Did it work? Have you noticed anything about Lupus?

Let's change that. I have picked the following for Flickr Group Roulette:

...Purple Photos for Lupus Awareness...

The rules: feature the color purple in your photos.

As in years past, I will be making a donation for every photo posted to the group. I will donate $0.10 for every photo posted here and to the target group, up to $100. I will pay for 1000 photos to be taken and posted.

FGR has a 3-a-day limit, which works for me. ASK YOUR FRIENDS TO TAKE AND PHOTOS. Ask your friends to take money out of my pocket! The idea is to raise awareness, after all.

Spread the word, please. Make sure they know the FGR rules, about how it must be taken on Sunday, May 16 and posted within 3 days.

In the past, people have chosen to match my donation. That would be really nice, but you know, your job is to raise awareness.

Thanks in advance for helping me remember my friend.

FGR - Nerds and Geeks!

If it's not blatantly obvious, I'm a huge gamer. I actually don't think I could function without them. Most of my co-workers, are not. It's quite common for me to become quite giddy over a new game coming out, especially if it's something I've been wanting for awhile.

Yeah, gamers are a little more accepted mainstream now, but when the walls of your home are plastered with these sprites (the 1up mushroom isn't the only one!), it should be quite obvious that the residents are geeks.

If you're wondering also, since it's not really visible, the graphic on my shirt is from an old PC game called Oregon Trail. That game itself holds a lot of pleasant memories for me.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've gotta get back to playing GTAIV, and then get on WoW to get the server info for my friend.

You don't have to be a textbook nerd/geek to be one. :)

35 days left!

For FGR and The Anti Penguin Domination League, and for TRP and Time Travellers, Inc. (This represents a bit of teh 70's and a bit of the 80's). Oh - and happy birthday Tharrin!!

Near the beginning of my 365 I got the idea to do a shot representing Sandi Thom's song I wish I was a punk rocker (with flowers in my hair). I've always liked the song - though am quite ambivalent about the lyrics, for many reasons. Still - I like the idea of punk a punk rock look with flowers in your hair. A nice juxtaposition.

I played with a few of today's shots - see a small mosaic here.

Thank you R for helping me with my hair!

Day two-hundred and ninety-four of my 365 Days challenge.

Tuesday, 25th August, 2009

From the "Game On" Exhibition at London's Science Museum

Today's FGR group is Thoughtless Acts—things you do without thinking.

Sad to say, not all people close their mouth when they chew. Thanks to many whacks upside the head, I don't smack.

Strobist Info: 430EX @ 1/16 to photo back right fired using the cheap eBay radio remotes. It was bounced on the ceiling to give a bit of back "hair lighting" and to reduce shadows.

FGR: 80's Songs. In the 80's it was all about the band I was in: Cement Trampoline. That's me on the left with the bitchen 80's hair (no grey either!). The cover was shot by rock photographer Hugh Brown. We rented Gillman St. in Berkeley in the morning and Hugh had brought that backdrop from L.A. where he rented it at some movie/film prop house. We suspect it was from some circus movie from the 30's or 40's. Anyway it was hung from the ceiling and used as the background for this record.

For 365 Days, FGR, and February's Alphabet Fun.

February 24th - Blue-black-white/ Sinimustvalge and The Letter X.

X is for Xbox!

You have no idea how proud of myself I am for coming up with something for X! Eric just bought an Xbox 360 over the weekend (*video game nerd alert*) and has been practically glued to it since he opened the box. We played a little Lego Indiana Jones together the other night and it was really fun!

TRF: Albeit Nintendo, my favorite video game character of all time is Yoshi. I named a frog after him!

Flickr Group Roulette asked us to show you the first photo we took this year.

"And more specifically - Give us your first shot of the New Year - no editing, no processing, don't even crop it. Take it just as it is and show the world your first shot of 2008 just exactly as it happened."

So here you go, my family and I watching TV and bringing in the New Year. Our plans changed dramatically due to some serious drama with their mother and Jamie's burgeoning cold. It wasn't the happiest of New Year's Eves.

On the other hand, because we were home, I could set up the shot I wanted long before midnight. Even though it is straight out of the camera (SOOC), I took the time to set up some balance flash for the harsh lights. The flash is far left, 10' behind Sara along the wall.

Anyways, it's 2008. Let's have some black eyed peas and cabbage, and get this year rolling!

Oh, funny aside. When we got in, I changed into my "lounging clothes". My son simply could not believe that I still had these things. They must be 15 years old. He remembers when we had "carpet picnics" and I wore my favorite outfit. It was a nice little jog down memory lane on a night that was comprised largely of angst and anger.

For FGR - Attention Whores.

I think everyone is an attention whore in one way or another, even myself, which I hate to admit. I do things to try to draw attention (POSITIVE!) to myself in an attempt to make me feel better about myself. It fails miserably. There's not a day that doesn't go by that I feel so good about something just for that feeling to cause me to crash. I guess it's my drug habit.

I think I need to find an AWA (Attention Whores Anonymous) group.

I did, however, get that job today. :)

So I was really stoked for FGR today, with 90's Pop Culture being the group we were doing.... then I blanked, totally! I had a few ideas, which all failed miserabley... But then I did some minor salvaging..and triptych'd it out!

And having long ago watched both VH1's I Love the 90's, and I Love the 90's; Part Deux, how could I not have done better on this?!

On top, with my hand, of course, the George Foreman grill, came about, and I use the heck out of mine. Not as much anymore, but it was most defintely a piece of MY 90's.

Then in the middle is of course, Al & Peg,on spike, and this is one of the failed pictures mentioned above, but I loved that show so much, I had to keep it in there for sheer nostalgia!

Then on bottom, with my feet of course, are only a few of my fave 90's TV and movies...from L to R..

Toy Story

The Wedding Singer, (although based on the 80's, the movie was from the 90's, and I LOVE it!

Family Guy came out in the 90's, and I'm hooked.

The classic, Office Space beneath that... hey that's my red stapler!

Forrest Gump... and that's all I have to say about that.

And South Park.. hehe.. I'm dorktastik though, remember?

And don't forget this is day 145/365... have I really made it that far?!?!

For FGR - Self with Camera (I had the idea and couldn't be bothered waiting 12 hours for it to get light and then get dark again so that the exposures weren't comletely messed up by the changing light outside, but purely by chance, the first exposure was taken at 00:01, so I suppose it qualifies for being taken on Saturday)

This is a HDR panoramic image. I took 9 exposures (+4, +3, +2, +1, 0, -1, -2, -3, -4) across the "desk". 72 images in total. Each set of exposures was blended with Enfuse with no special settings. Then I cropped each HDR image to just the center third and used those crops to make the panorama in Hugin.

Ever wonder what a fiddy looks like from the inside? Well, here's your chance.

I was setting up a shot using a GorillaPod. As I was manipulating a background piece, the camera toppled over onto the lens. The lens was my fiddy — my 50mm f/1.8 lens. The front element was crushed into the lens barrel, and just popped off into two pieces. *sigh*

Farewell fiddy! :-(
