Crystal Castles playing at Babel Malmö 20/11.

The intense toronto-duo Crystal Castles put on a completly mad show! I am not so happy with the images produced but I am glad that i went to the show cause it was one of the better in a while. There was a photopit, but strangely photographers weren't allowed into it. SUXXS since now i was squeezed in (again) by the corner.

Babel is a pretty small venue with a shitty lightrig but CC had some of their own mad lights blinking like hell. No frontlighting at all.

Alica Glass is moving and shaking around pretty good even though she had a broken foot. The crowd was totally loving the show and my ribs have bruises from all the squeezing. I even think my cellphone got popped between my ribs and the fence.

Good show, bad images. Thanks.

Opel launched a brand–new Astra at the Frankfurt Motor Show, in September 2015. The Astra K is smaller (5 cm), and lighter (up to 200 kilos) compared to Astra J. Although it is smaller on the outside, Opel claims it is bigger on the inside, than the previous Astra J. Depending on the model and trim level it is up to 200 kilograms - at the very least 120 kilograms - lighter than its predecessor. The completely new vehicle architecture plays a major role in the weight reduction. Every component was checked for compact design and lightweight materials. The bodyshell weight alone was reduced by 20 percent from 357 to 280 kilograms. Additional, chassis-related measures resulted in another 50 kilograms of weight reduction; these include high-strength and ultra-high-strength low-weight steels, compact subframes as well as weight reductions to the front and rear axle. Rear suspension is torsion bar (only with Watts-linkage with top engines), and McPherson struts is it at the front.

Available engines are 1.0 3-cylinder, 1.4 4-cylinder petrol engines and 1.6-litre diesels. It will be available with new full–LED frontlight techniques, A screen in the dash which connect to Android (only lower R4.0 entertainment system) or iPhone comes as standard. This system is already available, in both the Corsa E and Adam.

Opel are offering the ecoFLEX range for 1.0T, 1.4T and 1.6 CDTI engines which have same amount of power, but less CO2-emissions (g/km) and lower fuel consumption. The entire ecoFLEX range have Start/Stop as standard, low rolling resistance tyres and aerodynamic tweaks for reduced drag for lower CO2-emissions. The 1.4T SIDI ecoFLEX version have less torque, rated at 230 Nm at 2.000-4.000RPM, and the 1.0T ecoFLEX version is only available with the EasyTronic 3.0 semi-automatic transmission.

When I saw this Viceroy my instinct was to get on the other side of it so the sun would be at my back and evenly illuminating the butterfly. That's how I go about taking most of my photos: positioning myself so my shadow is in the direction of my subject. If I can't get into the position then I generally don't take the photo. But when I saw the stained glass effect the sidelighting was causing in the butterfly's wings I stood my ground. It's another reminder for me to not be afraid of different lighting situations than the frontlighting situation I am most familiar and comfortable with.

In spring of 2008 I spent several days exploring and photographing the wildflowers at the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve in Los Angeles County, CA. Here is the view one afternoon at the north boundary of the park. The wind was very strong, making the photography challenging. But with the winds came dramatic clouds like the ones seen here over the distant rolling hills! The orange flowers are California poppies or Eschscholzia californica, also known as flame flower and copa de oro (cup of gold). The tiny yellow daisies are goldfields or Lasthenia glabrata. This grassland area is at an elevation ranging from 2,600 to 3,000 feet above sea level in the Mojave Desert climate zone.

Rothsee near Kronmuehle, Franconia (Bavaria)

Some background information:

The Rothsee is an artificial reservoir, which belongs to the so called Franconian Lakeland. The other lakes of the Frankonian Lakeland are the Huge Brombachsee, the Little Brombachsee, the Igelsbachsee, the Altmuehlsee, the Hahnenkammsee and the Dennenloher See. All in all these seven lakes amount to a water surface of about 20 square kilometres.

Just like most of the other lakes the Rothsee mainly serves the water regulation, but because of its great recreation offer it's also a favoured recreational area for the residents of the city of Nuernberg as well as a popular tourist destination for holidaymakers from farer away.

The Rothsee is 2.2 square kilometres large, thus one of the smaller lakes. It’s divided into an economic part and a swimming area. Three recreational areas are available at all times. In most parts surfing and sailing is possible, but there’s also a widespread nature reserve, which is situated in the northwestern corner of the lake and where all kinds of water sports activities are taboo.

By the way, I took this backlit photo on a late November afternoon whilst the sun was dodging behind a small cloud, just because I was curious about the result.

On my first visit to Southern California’s Carrizo Plain National Monument, I discovered a sandy meadow covered with thousands of blossoming leafy stemmed coreopsis (Leptosyne calliopsidea). I returned to that spot the following dawn and waited for the sun to rise. Here’s the view looking north with the Temblor Range in the distance, as the first direct sunlight of the day reached the blossoms. Endemic to California, this annual herb grows in some of the southern coastal mountain ranges and the Mojave Desert. A few hundred years ago, California’s Central Valley was a vast grassland where antelope and elk grazed, and wildflowers graced the spring landscape. Today, Carrizo Plain survives as a remnant amid the state’s urban and agriculture development.

Whenever I follow my electronic navigator's most direct route from my home to Yosemite National Park, I drive past the abandoned town of Merced Falls and then south along Hornitos Road. The route goes through rolling grassland countryside here at the edge of California Gold Country. This particular old oak tree and distant vista beyond had caught my eye on earlier trips, but the weather and lighting were never ideal; usually there were absolutely no clouds. On this beautiful May afternoon I found my favorite kind of sky: deep blue with white puffy cumulus clouds out to the horizon. Such a sky completes the scene, adding interest and depth to the landscape. This is the view looking east northeast from the road at an elevation of 460 feet above sea level, with Merced County and Table Top Mountain behind us and Mariposa County and distant Cemetery Hill before us. At the horizon are the western flank of the Sierra Nevada and Yosemite National Park. Before European settlement of North America, the oak savanna ecosystem was part of a fire ecology. Fires started by lightning and Native Americans ensured that the savanna areas did not become forests; only trees with a high tolerance for fire - especially certain oak species - were able to survive. Today, grasslands in California are among the most endangered ecosystems in the United States. The Gold Country is famed for the mineral deposits and gold mines that attracted waves of immigrants during the 1849 California Gold Rush. The region lies here on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada, reaching down to the Sacramento Valley.

Dieppe-based Alpine, once an independent company specialising in faster Renaults, later a Renault subsidiary, established a fine competition history with the Alpine A110 winning the 1973 Monte Carlo Rally and World Rally Championship. The successor was the Alpine A310, initially powered by tuned 17TS/Gordini four-cylinder engine, still rear-mounted. The maximum power reaches 127 PS (93 kW; 125 hp), thanks to the use of two twin-barrel 45 DCOE Weber carburetors.

The first model of the A310, built 1971-1976, was a car with a four-cylinder engine and six frontlights. In 1976 the A310 was restyled by Robert Opron and fitted with the more powerful and newly developed 90-degree 2,664 cc V6 PRV engine, as used in some Renaults, Volvos and Peugeots. The car was first shown at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show. The prototype A310 had louvres across the rear windscreen; these were not carried over to the production model. Early models had a NACA duct mounted near the window atop the left front fender, later four-cylinder cars received two, mounted closer to the front of the car. The A310 was labor-intensive, having been developed for small-scale artisanal production - a car took 130 hours to build from start to finish. The front axle also came in for some criticism, although in 1974 the balljoint mountings were replaced by rubber/steel bushings (silent-blocs) which somewhat improved the longevity. While many bits of the A310 came from the Renault parts shelf as expected, others are more surprising - the steering rack is from the Peugeot 504, while the turn signals are Simca 1301 units.

The basis of the A310 was a hefty tubular steel backbone chassis, clothed in a fiberglass shell. As for the previous A110 the entire body was molded in a single piece. Like the ill-fated De Lorean DMC-12, which used the same PRV powertrain, the engine was mounted longitudinally in the rear, driving forward to the wheels through a manual five-speed gearbox. The driving position was low and sporty, although the front wheelwells encroached on the occupants' feet, pointing them towards the centre of the car. The later V6 received a black plastic rear spoiler as well, useful for keeping the tail planted but somewhat marring to purity of the original's lines. With 150 PS (110 kW) on tap, the A310 PRV V6 was Renault's performance flagship capable of 220 km/h (137 mph) and acceptable acceleration. The tail-heavy weight distribution gave handling characteristics similar to the contemporary Porsche 911. Beginning with model year 1981 (in late 1980), the rear suspension was shared with the mid-engined Renault 5 Turbo. Rather than the previous three-lug wheels, the A310 also received the alloys used for the 5 Turbo, albeit without the painted elements.

In the later models (1983-1984) of the A310 a "Pack GT" which was inspired from the Group 4 A310 racing cars would be developed, it gained wheel arches and larger spoilers front and rear. A few Alpine A310 V6 Pack GT Kit Boulogne were built (27 examples), here the PRV V6 was bored out to 2.9 litres and was then further modified by Alpine, fitted with triple Weber 42DCNF carburetors that pushed power to 193 PS (142 kW).

In Southern California’s Carrizo Plain National Monument, I discovered a hill covered by thousands of blossoming wild California Coreopsis (Coreopsis californica). I had visited this spot exactly a year earlier and was impressed by the wildflower bloom, but this year’s blossoms proved to be even more impressive. Here we are near Simmler Road, looking up a hill to the north, with the Temblor Range in the distance at far right. Coreopsis, a native annual herb, grows in the washes within otherwise dry habitats. Following the previous winter's heavy rains ending an extended drought, California was enjoying a rare super bloom! A few hundred years ago, California’s Central Valley was a vast grassland where antelope and elk grazed, and wildflowers graced the spring landscape. Today, Carrizo Plain survives as a remnant amid the state’s urban and agriculture development.

After arriving in the town of Crested Butte, Colorado on an autumn photography adventure, I dined at one of the town's best restaurants. My waitress suggested that I explore the road north to the town of Gothic; she said there was beautiful scenery and fall color that way. The next day I was pleased to find clusters of golden aspen trees in dramatic mountainous settings graced by the prettiest skies I would enjoy on my trip. While driving northwest on Gothic Road in the East River Valley, I spotted this band of aspens on a ranch at the foot of Avery Peak at left and White Rock Mountain at right. The trees are growing alongside the river at an elevation of 9,375 feet above sea level. Avery Peak has an elevation of 12,653 feet and White Rock Mountain reaches 13,527 feet. Capping the purple ridge in the distance at far left is Mount Bellview (elevation 12,519 feet). These peaks are part of the Elk Mountains, a high, rugged mountain range within the Rocky Mountains of west-central Colorado. This part of the range is inside the Gunnison National Forest. In my earlier days of making landscape portraits I was always compelled to adjust the view of interest so that it would fit the camera's film or sensor. This photograph presents an extreme example of making the camera fit the scene instead! I started by capturing the landscape to the left of the trees, and continued making exposures while turning the camera eastward until the composition was balanced and complete. The final panorama has a width that is five times its height!

Embracing and exploring prog rock inspirations Porcupine Tree, the band from U.K really made a noteworthy show at Olympen in Lund.

I've been excited about this show since it was announced at Mejeriet in February. It got sold out and they moved it to a bigger venue, which was completely new for me. The good thing about Olympen is definitly the photopit. The bad thing was the lack of varaity in the lighting.

Allthought the lighting was decent with nice background lights and frontlight, but it was either blue wash or red wash with small yellow spots in it.

An other thing that bummed me a bit was the time we got to shot the show. It really felt like five minutes or so, but it's maybe just me. But seriously, if the photographers only are allowed to shot for such a short while, they might wanna consider not having a pitch black intro.

Something that also was new for me was that before the concert they announced that NO photos, video/audio-recordings were allowed. Not at all, not even with cellphone cameras. If they discovered someone doing so they would be kicked out and they encouraged the crowd to tell the guards if they saw somebody who took pictures.

This is really rubish I Think. The next thing is probably that the bands will only allow photographers to shot their concerts if they later on give all the image rights to the band and therefore the photographers loose all their possible profit. If this trend continues, shooting concert days are over.

At an elevation of 9,624 feet Sonora Pass, which is traversed by CA 108 is the second-highest highway pass in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range of California. This pass connects the communities of Sonora to the west and Bridgeport to the east. I found the scene depicted in this photograph a short distance east of the pass, near Soda Creek (possibly also known as Sardine Creek) in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The old Sierra juniper (Juniperus occidentalis) seen at the left caught my eye from the road, and looked especially good in the late afternoon sunlight on this autumn day. Junipers were a very important resource to the Native Americans. The berries were used in foods and drinks, and the wood and bark were utilized as building materials and in tools such as bows. Native Americans have even used juniper as a treatment for diabetes! Like the better known and more frequently traveled Tioga Pass (the highest highway pass in the Sierra Nevada) to the south, Sonora Pass abounds with old growth trees, beauty, and High Sierra views.
