During the wildflower super bloom of 2016, I traveled to Death Valley where I discovered this natural garden of blossoming desert gold or desert sunflower (Geraea canescens) at 210 feet below sea level in Badwater Basin. Other spots in the valley had more spectacular blooms in terms of quantity, but I was charmed by how delicate and lovely the flowers looked here with the rugged Black Mountains as a backdrop. The flower of this colorful annual is popular with bees and birds, while the seeds are an important food source for birds and rodents.

This was a particularly beautiful winter's day in Joseph D. Grant County Park. I had enjoyed the afternoon wandering the hills near the beginning of Washburn Trail, making a number of photographs with impressive clouds in the sky. Eventually the sun was getting low and I headed back toward the car with a sense of accomplishment and completion. I happened to look over my shoulder glimpsing this wonderful scene, and proceeded to make one final photograph - my favorite of the day! To do a good job with landscape photography as with any occupation, it's best not to arrive late for work or leave too early! Here we see a grand old oak tree - dormant for winter - with impossibly intricate, gnarled, yet graceful branches whose collective shape is echoed in cumulus clouds that are just starting to take on the colors of sunset. This end of Grant County Park features numerous majestic oak trees standing proudly on gently rolling grass-covered hills. In the distance is snowcapped Mt. Hamilton - one of the landmark peaks surrounding the San Francisco Bay area. At 4,360 feet, it is the tallest mountain overlooking Santa Clara (Silicon) Valley, and is the site of Lick Observatory, the first permanently occupied mountain-top observatory.

"The Alpine A310 is a sports car built by French manufacturer Alpine, from 1971 to 1984."
"Dieppe-based Alpine, once an independent company specialising in faster Renaults, later a Renault subsidiary, established a fine competition history with the Alpine A110 winning the 1973 Monte Carlo Rally and World Rally Championship.
The successor was the Alpine A310, initially powered by tuned 17TS/Gordini four-cylinder engine, still rear-mounted. The maximum power reaches 127 PS (93 kW; 125 hp), thanks to the use of two twin-barrel 45 DCOE Weber carburetors.

On this April afternoon I was very impressed by the dramatic storm clouds blowing by, and I went off in search of a pretty location to photograph under them. I arrived at the High Meadow in Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve just in time to photograph this grove of old oak trees before the shadow of the hill in back of me reached them. The 3,800 acre Rancho San Antonio is located in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains by the town of Los Altos Hills, CA. In the distance is the Santa Clara Valley and Diablo Mountain Range.
This is the 5th generation of the famous Cadillac DeVille, built between 1965 and 1970. I made this foto at Classic Remise Düsseldorf in summer 2014

In spring of 2008 I spent a few days photographing wildflowers at the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve near Lancaster, CA. Here is the view one afternoon at the north boundary of the park. The wind was very strong, making the photography challenging. But with the winds came dramatic clouds like the ones seen here over the distant rolling hills! The tiny yellow daisies are goldfields or Lasthenia glabrata. The orange flowers are California poppies or Eschscholzia californica, also known as copa de oro (cup of gold). The Poppy Reserve is a state-protected land located in the rural westside of the Antelope Valley in northern Los Angeles County. This grassland area is one of the state's most consistent poppy-bearing regions.

In the Netherlands we have 3 options for the Giulia.
Standard: Halogen lamps with foglights.
Option: 25W BiXenon - no separate foglights.
Option: 35W BiXenon (AFS) and no separate fogligths. (Included in the "Sport Package AFS"
I´ve ordered the 35W option, and they perform perfectly.
My new Alfa Romeo Giulia, has adopted distinctive technologies designed in conjunction with Magneti Marelli.
Magneti Marelli is making an important contribution, first and foremost within the area of electronic systems: at the forefront is the CDC (Chassis Domain Control) electronic control unit, the "brain" of the car, and the new infotainment system equipped with an 8.8 "black panel" TFT (Thin Film Transistor) display which integrates innovative "optical bonding" technologies designed for perfect display readability.
The CDC is the electronic control unit developed by Magneti Marelli that represents the "brain" of the on-board electronics and optimises handling and performance.
Specifically, the CDC is a "supervisor" which adapts the car set-up dynamically and in real-time, based on the data from inertial sensors that measure the vertical, lateral and longitudinal accelerations and rotation. The system anticipates and manages critical situations, informing in advance the specific control units involved in the electronic system through the vehicle networks.
The CDC control unit increases driving comfort and safety by predictively adopting control and management protocols that coordinate the action of the Alfa DNA, of the Torque Vectoring (the system that allows the rear differential to separately control the torque for each wheel), of the Aero Splitter (the electro-mechanical system that dynamically manages the downforce, which is the aerodynamic force that enables car road grip, and of the Active Damping Control (adaptive electronic suspensions), as well as the control of the stability, the chassis, the braking system, the steering and the driving assistance.
Again in the context of electronic systems, Magneti Marelli has developed for the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio the multimedia infotainment system and the Connect 3D Nav navigation system with an 8.8" total black "TFT display". The system uses Genivi open source technology and responds to automotive performance and robustness criteria. Based on Linux language, it integrates the connection with the electronic control network of the car. Aiming at the objective of the "connected car", the Alfa Romeo Giulia infotainment system offers a sophisticated set of features and functionalities including the features of media player, navigation system and the management of vehicle parameters. The heart of the system is a latest-generation HMI (Human-Machine Interface) developed with HTML5 programming language where management of the system primarily takes place via the Rotary Pad and through the 8.8" TFT display on the car dashboard.
Navigation is characterised by high-resolution maps with 3D and high-speed elements for the calculation of routes and by Dead Reckoning technology that even follows the route in areas not covered by a GPS signal. The 8.8" TFT display also shows the vehicle settings, the diagnostics, the parking assistant control, highlighting the type of set-up associated with the Alfa DNA, and interaction with the CAN network for the collection and exchange of data.
Moreover the display is fully integrated within the design of the dashboard, thanks to the innovative optical construction of the clear black plastic mask that is coupled with the TFT display through a process of "optical bonding". This procedure consists of a peculiar bonding of two surfaces which, allowing more effective filtering of the light, results in increased brightness and readability of a display. This technology thus provides a "total black" curve mask that is aesthetically harmonised with the car dashboard. In practice, from the user's perspective, the image of the display appears on the surface of the dashboard with an excellent level of viewing and contrast.
With regard to lighting systems, Magneti Marelli has collaborated with Alfa Romeo to produce the headlamps and rear lamps of the Giulia, distinctive and characteristic design elements of the car. The Giulia Quadrifoglio headlamps are made with Xenon technology equipped with AFS (Adaptive Frontlight System) technology and with a 35W lighting module, a solution that increases the lighting capability by 200% compared to standard halogen headlamps, thus ensuring greater safety when driving. The LED technology is adopted for position lights, DRL (Daytime Running Light), cornering lights and for the indicators. The LED rear tail lights, a synthesis of stylistic and technological excellence, identify the rear of the car uniquely and distinctively, further enhancing the straight and dynamic line of the car.
Magneti Marelli produced the components of the front and rear suspensions, the exhaust system, the pedal board and the plastic parts .

1974 was the last official productionyear of the Hanomag-Henschel company. In this year this brand name vanished for good.

Wow, what a piece of luck: Raisting, the place of an earth station for satellite communications with huge parabolic dishes together with a Sundog (Halo)!
The second time I saw a sundog at this place!
For me Raisting is magic and one of the most fascinating places in the proximity where I live. If you like this place too, you might be interested in my set about Raisting where you can find some more interesting photos of the earth station.
A sundog (scientific name parhelion, for "beside the sun") is a common bright circular spot on a solar halo. It is an atmospheric optical phenomenon primarily associated with the reflection or refraction of sunlight by small ice crystals making up cirrus or cirrostratus clouds.
Was für ein Glück... schon das zweite Mal, dass ich an diesem Platz eine Haloerscheinung sehe! Diesmal leider nicht so stark wie beim letzten Mal (siehe unten), trotzdem immer wieder faszinierend - gerade an diesem Ort. Leider hielt die Erscheinung nicht lange vor - nur ein paar Minuten.

Nebensonnen sind Haloerscheinungen die in einem Abstand von rund 22° links oder rechts, manchmal auch beidseitig, neben der Sonne auftreten. Es erscheint dabei so, als ob sich neben der Sonne eine zweite, schwächere befinden würde. Der wissenschaftliche Name einer Nebensonne ist Parhelion (Plural Parhelia). Die englische Sprache bezeichnet sie sehr fantasievoll als sun dog (Sonnenhund). Die Bezeichnung spiegelt die Tatsache wider, dass Nebensonnen sich immer an der Seite der Sonne befinden.

I found this view of Lipan Point the morning following a heavy early winter snowfall. What appealed to me especially were the freshness of the snow and the two opposing triangles in the composition; the lower right triangle of snow is free of color, while the upper left triangle of distant canyon is strongly saturated with reds, purples, and blues.

On the first day of fall at the start of a photography road-trip in Colorado I was in search of colorful autumn foliage. At this point in my trip I hadn't found much yet, but this high desert scene appealed to me anyway, with its variety of subtle hues on a nice arrangement of rolling hills. This natural garden appeared alongside the dry creek north of Middleton Creek on the road from Vega State Park to Silt in western Colorado. We're just inside Grand Mesa National Forest looking northeast at an elevation of 7,700 feet above sea level in the lowermost foothills of Hightower Mountain in the Grand Mesa Range of the southern Rocky Mountains. This photograph is all about color - a multicolored natural garden of sagebrush and other high desert shrubs!
It's as if the Murcielago first generation was built for this color... Looks kind of like a Ninja turtle, don't you think? Amazing. LOVE IT!

From the glamorous era of hotels and pompous architecture. The Hotel Bristol, directly at the railway station SBB in Bad Ragaz, opened in 1906. And that's just the back. It was closed again in 1920 and converted into a factory. In 1989 there was a reopening as a hotel. 2003 the hotel was definitively closed and the complex used henceforth as a residential and business house. 14 years later in 2017, the kitchen and the large dining room were put into operation for two weeks while a special occasion. In 2020, a group of young people opened the former restaurant „Le Miroir“ under the name „From Heaven“ with the help of crowdfunding in the middle of the corona crisis. The north side is difficult to photograph. It is in the shade, in the frontlighting or is hidden by trees. Switzerland, February 23, 2021.
