Street view of Takaka on the day of the Saturday morning market. This lady saw me pointing the camera and gave a friendly wave and thumbs up. I am presuming there were pony rides somewhere but given the rural nature of this township and area, she might just have been taking the pony to a friend's house. The town has lots of good cafes hence the Dangerous Kitchen behind. Takaka is both rural, alternative and a fair tourist destination for those hardy enough to cycle or drive over the Takaka Hills. I was treated to lots of friendly horn action from the crew of NS 21Z, aka "The Zipper" (Rutherford, PA to Chicago, IL, 63rd St., Park Manor Yard hotshot trailers/containers) as he flew through downtown Brimfield, Indiana on NS' ex-LS&MS/NYC/PC/CR Chicago Line. I'm sure they've seen me before as I've shot the evening parade countless times which includes the Zipper. At the time of this shot 21Z's crew took 20K home the following day back east to Toledo as a regularly assigned set of trains, (although that may have changed since) and as it turned out I got the same friendly horn the following day from 20K with the same crew. NS 2585 is an SD70M built in Oct. of 2000 for NS. The NYC era tri-light signals are still in service here.
A friendly stop of sunlight and 1950s setting. A happier place to have a cup of coffee would be hard to find. The owner greeted us the moment we walked in the door. I like that kind of place.
I wonder sometimes what people thinks when I slam on the brakes with my bike, make a U-turn back and photograph such a motif.

A friendly wave from the engineer of NS empty coal train 881 can be seen as he pulls through CP-379 in downtown Kendallville, Indiana on NS' ex-LS&MS/NYC/PC/CR Chicago Line. CP-379 was once the home of UK Tower which controlled the at-grade crossing of PRR's Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad here. 881 has empty Detroit Edison coal gons headed back out west after unloading in Monroe, Michigan. The NYC era GRS Type G tri-light signals are still in service here.
After the St Paul Union Depot Days, the Duluth Museum’s Soo 2500 appearance, it made a photo trip on the Dresser Sub. Great times were had by all whom attended

Here's another few images from the encounter I had with this friendly kestrel in Point Reyes National Seashore last month.
Walking home, camera in hand as usual, and this man asked me to take his picture. So, I did and we had a brief chat. I sent him a copy and received a nice thank you.
