These were formed by splashing water along the edge of the Ottawa River.

The sedimentary rocks formed in the Upper Cretaceous that occur in the region of Torotoro, Bolivia, belong to the El Molino Formation, which can be divided into three members due to their distinct lithologic characteristics. The lower member consists of carbonate rocks, the intermediate member by siliciclastic and mixed rocks, and the upper, by carbonate rocks. These association of rocks occur as the upper strata of the Torotoro Syncline, a 45 km long and 9.5 km wide feature well preserved in the dynamic of Andean tectonic.

I remember that marvellous sunset on Koh Tao, an island north of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. I had walked into the sea to capture the scenery photographically and was knee-deep in the water until I felt something like a sting or bite in my lower right leg. All I remember is that I hit it and immediately left the water. On the beach I then saw about 20 small skin lesions like punctures from a biopsy with a diameter of about 1 mm and the leg was bleeding quite profusely. Jellyfish alarm! Fortunately, we hadn't been far from our little hotel and I got vinegar for the wound there straight away. You actually use this to loosen a stuck jellyfish, but it didn't do any harm either. Unfortunately, I didn't have my emergency allergy kit for such cases (antihistamine, cortisone and an adrenaline pen) with me, but had it in my hotel room...;) That could have ended badly. I was really glad I hadn't gone swimming in the sea (I never do it after sunset). In Thailand, there are always deaths from large-scale contact with devil jellyfish. In a situation like that, you actually are shocked at first.

Yes, when you travel a lot, the strangest things happen to you. Once a snake flew towards us at the waterfall, that wasn't so funny either. But the number one story so far was when we were caught by a current in the sea. Horror stories, luckily we survived.

In France we say: "La fonction fait la forme". Here, one could say: "The form generates the function".

This was in a historical home in Lowell, MI. Several of the homes were open for visitors during the Fallasburg Village Celebration.

A rainbow forms in showers of virga over the salt flats in Badwater Basin, Death Valley National Park, during our landscape and night photography workshop there a couple of weeks ago.

We woke before dawn to intermittent rains drops that morning, and we drove 40 miles toward the wall of black storm, counting on it to move or break up a bit. We stopped at a spot near, but not under it.

The entire view toward the rising sun was obscured with rain a short while earlier, then we had a small glowing window of sunrise light underneath, then we turned around to rainbows from the rising sun shooting over the clouds!

This image was taken just as the sun was reaching our position, you can see a trace of my shadow as the sun crested the clouds behind me.

Back form a great holiday in Switzerland and Italy. A lot of people fly a long way from home during the summer, but forget that Europe has so much to give.

Our last stop was Cinque Terre. A famous spot that I always wanted to visit. Yes it was crowded, but if you hike a bit, you loose most of the crowds. As a photographer always the challenge to make a unique shot on a very popular photo location. I tried my best, especially using different foregrounds. Hope you enjoy and more to follow.

New Holland Honeyeater

Phylidonyris novaehollandiae

With long, slender beaks and a tongue which can protrude well beyond the end of their beaks, New Holland Honeyeaters are able to probe for nectar in the deep flowers of Banksias and Grevilleas.

Calls: The voice comprises a loud 'chik', a fainter 'pseet' and some chattering notes. If danger, such as a bird of prey approaches, a group of honeyeaters will join together and give a loud alarm call.

Minimum Size: 18cm

Maximum Size: 18cm

Average size: 18cm

Average weight: 20g

Breeding season: any time of year; mainly summer and winter

Clutch Size: 2 to 3

Incubation: 18 days

Nestling Period: 16 days

Description: The New Holland Honeyeater is mostly black and white, with a large yellow wing patch and yellow sides on the tail. It has a small white ear patch, a thin white whisker at the base of the bill and a white eye. This honeyeater is an active bird, and rarely sits still long enough to give an extended view. Sexes are similar in looks, but females are slightly smaller in size. Young birds are browner and have a grey eye.

Similar species: One very similar species is the White-cheeked Honeyeater,Phylidonyris nigra. This species has a single large white cheek patch and a dark eye. The two species frequently occur together.

Distribution: The New Holland Honeyeater's range extends throughout southern Australia, from about Brisbane, Queensland, to just north of Perth, Western Australia.

Habitat: The New Holland Honeyeater is common in heath, forests, woodland and gardens, mainly where grevilleas and banksias are found. It is inquisitive and approaches humans. It also mixes with other types of honeyeaters.

Feeding: New Holland Honeyeaters are active feeders. They mostly eat the nectar of flowers, and busily dart from flower to flower in search of this high-energy food. Other food items include fruit, insects and spiders. Birds may feed alone, but normally gather in quite large groups. Most feeding takes place in lower areas of bushes and thickets.

Breeding: The New Holland Honeyeater's cup-shaped nest is made of bark and grasses, bound together with spider web. It is lined with soft material and is placed in a bush or tree, anywhere from ground level up to 6 m. Both sexes feed the chicks. A pair of adults may raise two or three broods in a year.

Lake Bashkara was formed in the 1930s and 1940s due to the melting of the Bashkara glacier. In surveys of 1932-1933, the lake was not yet recorded, and in the late 1950s it already existed. The depth of the reservoir is 32 m. The height of Lake Bashkara above sea level is 2750 m.

Lake Bashkara is known for repeated cases of breakthrough. In 2017, heavy heavy rain triggered the overflow of Lake Bashkara. A block of ice broke off from a neighboring glacier and collapsed directly into the lake. About 1 million cubic meters of water escaped from the lake and, destroying everything in its path, swept along the bed of the Adylsu River. In the valley of the Adylsu River, 350-500 thousand cubic meters were involved in mudflows. m of solid material. 3 people died.

In the late 1980s. at the edge of the Bashkar glacier, a group of new breakthrough-hazardous lakes formed, which later merged into a single lake Lapa.
