Yesterday we took Jessie to her first ballet class. Does she have good form or what? :) Proud of my girl.

She loved the class. It's a once a week class for an hour each Saturday. It's a ballet/tap class, so we have to pick her up some little tap shoes too. She immediately took a liking to one of the other little girls in the class and ended up followed her around and partnering up with her.

Many thanks to everyone for your views, faves and supportive comments. These are always very much appreciated

The Western Isles are nothing if not exposed to the weather. Rust and decay are everywhere you look and provide endless photographic potential for those of us who enjoy making abstract images that celebrate form, colour and texture. I came across this rusty chain in a small fishing harbour and thought it made a much more interesting subject than the fishing boats.

I enjoyed making these images as much as the dramatic coastal vistas, perhaps more so. I'm sure they won't be as popular, but they are just as much a part of the Hebridean landscape for me.

Watson Lake is one of two reservoirs at the Granite Dells, in Prescott, Arizona, that was formed in the early 1900s when the Chino Valley Irrigation District built a dam on Granite Creek. The City of Prescott bought the reservoir and surrounding land in 1997 to preserve it as recreational land.

"A frost flower is formed when thin layers of ice are extruded from long-stemmed plants in autumn or early winter. The thin layers of ice are often formed into exquisite patterns that curl into "petals" that resemble flowers." Wikipedia

We had noticed for some time a clump of what we thought was snow on a dead tree branch in our backyard, and were puzzled about why it was still there when all the other snow had melted. Yesterday it had melted and the branch was bare. But this morning this appeared again. We had very heavy fog overnight and temperatures just below freezing. My son and I finally figured out it is a frost flower. It is quite large, about 4.5 inches long and 3 inches high. It warmed a bit and started to rain and a few hours later it was gone again.

Happy New Year!

Barred Owls roost quietly in forest trees during the day, though they can occasionally be heard calling in daylight hours. At night they hunt small animals, especially rodents, and give an instantly recognizable “Who cooks for you?” call.

I set off form the great ocean road 2 days ago with the main goal of getting a shot of this iconic pier over the next 7 days or so before I duck back to Sydney for a few days.

From about lunch time today I had my eye on the forming clouds just hoping they would hang around until sunset. They didn't, they rarely do. However this set rolled over the horizon and put on a real welcome to SA show.

Uploading late as it took me ages to align the pano, I hadn't though to re-adjust the pivot point on my pano head for the new lens. So I had to manually align then use auto blend cs5, got there in the end.

This is a quarter view of a 1955 Mercury D-528 concept car at The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California. The rounded fenders were actually functional -- a spare tire was beneath one and a gas tank beneath the other.

Another shot form last month's trip with Steve.

I had the idea that the sun setting behind the Cuillin Hills taken from the Bealach na Bà on the Applecross peninsula would be a good way to end our day out in the west. Unfortunately the bank of cloud over Skye stopped that happening but I still fired off a few shots as the sun slipped out of view.

I go different ways on my long walks to and from work, and noticed this display the other day. On my way home I purposely went this way again to capture this image through the window.

You will have to find the location on a real map! as the flickr map doesn't even show Tennant Creek, (to the North) or Wauchope just to the South in the NT.

How were The Devils Marbles formed?

The formation of The Devils Marbles are a result of the erosion of the sandstone on top of granite (which was formed millions of years ago due to the hardening of magma within the earth’s crust)- which the Marbles are made up of. The folding of the earth’s crust lead to the lifting of the granite and the erosion of the sandstone, after the granite came to the surface, pressure was lost and the granite expanded causing cracks to form and fall apart in large, square blocks.

Over time, as the square blocks were exposed to water, their surface began to decay. A layer of the rock was flushed away by water and blown away by wind.

The rounded shape of these blocks resulted from both mechanical and chemical weathering, the surface of the rocks often expand or shrink as a result of chemical processes. Because the chemical processes affect the areas with edges more, a rounded shape is formed. The boulders are also suffering from solarisation and temperature differences between day and night- causing the boulder to crack and sometimes split in half.

At around 60 million light-years from Earth, the Great Barred Spiral Galaxy, NGC 1365, is captured beautifully in this image by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. Located in the constellation of Fornax (the Furnace), the blue and fiery orange swirls show us where stars have just formed and the dusty sites of future stellar nurseries.

At the outer edges of the image, enormous star-forming regions within NGC 1365 can be seen. The bright, light-blue regions indicate the presence of hundreds of baby stars that formed from coalescing gas and dust within the galaxy's outer arms.

This Hubble image was captured as part of a joint survey with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Chile. The survey will help scientists understand how the diversity of galaxy environments observed in the nearby universe, including NGC 1365 and other galaxies such as NGC 2835 and NGC 2775, influence the formation of stars and star clusters. Expected to image over 100,000 gas clouds and star-forming regions beyond our Milky Way, the PHANGS survey is expected to uncover and clarify many of the links between cold gas clouds, star formation, and the overall shape and morphology of galaxies.

empty form I am

state of being

Illusion of reality

We are nothing but mere form before our next transition.

In Buddhism, it is believed that our body is only a temporary form before we transition into another form. It is merely a physical manifestation of our consciousness, not the essence of who we truly are.

One way to understand this concept is through the idea of "non-self." For example, a flower is composed of non-flower elements—water, sunlight, soil, weather, the gardener, the florist, and more. Without these elements, the flower would not exist. Similarly, a person is made up of countless elements outside of the self, including parents, ancestors (both human and non-human), water, sunlight, food, education, and life experiences. The body is in a constant state of change, and our thoughts and emotions are always in flux.

To depict this abstract concept, I have used a physical monk's robe draped over a pair of eyes—without a body—to symbolize the impermanence and non-self nature of existence of our form.
