Indian Paintbrush Wildflowers
Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge Landscape ( Oklahoma)
My flowering quince just started blooming this past week - so the buds & blossoms had to ride out a couple of days below freezing into the mid-20's. They made it! I needed sun to get shots and finally got sunshine yesterday.
Been worried about our friends to the west hit by the snow & ice - from Alabama to Texas. I think Dave had the coldest temps in Nebraska. You all be safe ...

Quite a few of these flowering in our area at the moment.
This is 'Corymbia ficifolia', the 'Mini Red' flowering gum - native to the south-west of Western Australia, but now prolific in Cherrybrook, in northern Sydney!!
I had to fight off hordes of Rainbow Lorikeets, squadrons of King Parrots and a small army of Crimson Rosellas, in order to photograph these eucalyptus blossoms in the late afternoon, today Sunday, 13th December, 2020.
But even then the Rainbow Lorikeets, working alone or in pairs, would insist on landing right next to the blossoms I was trying to photograph.
Here are some images to show you what I had to contend with:

I spent a couple of hours in the gardens at Borde Hill yesterday on a lovely sunny afternoon. The Dogwood trees are looking beautiful at this time of year.
Ribes sanguineum, the flowering red currant, is a North American species native to western Canada and the United States.

this tree sits proudly on our front lawn... it was here when we bought the house in 1988 and quite large... so now it has be over 45 years old and still gifts us with a beautiful display of pinks!!
Strube or small trees that bloom between March and April. Before the leaves are released, the flowers appear.
I am not a plant person, I can barely tell a daisy from a mum. This beautiful plant was growing on the the shoreline of Wehrspann Lake, south of Omaha. I posted this on Facebook, asking people to ID it, and according to a majority of the good people on Nebraska Through the Lens, this is a Flowering Rush, a species of Butomus. Also known as Grass Rush. Botanical name, Butomus umbellatus. A perennial, they say it's an herb!
This large, spectacular flowering crab blooms at the end of our communal yard with our neighbours. Unfortunately nobody's perfect; the fruit are insipid.

Thank you to everyone who visits, faves, and comments.
It was a beautiful day in the park, a weather front was pushing warm air into the area making for a nice afternoon. There was a breeze moving the branches and focusing was difficult with a manual lens.
After months of winter I needed to see some strong colors in my images. Also I need a break from large landscapes and feel like turning to the smaller things.
