Camellia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Theaceae. Camellias are evergreen shrubs or small trees up to 20 m tall. They are found in eastern and southern Asia, from the Himalayas east to Japan and Indonesia. There are about 300 species and around 3,000 hybrids. Their flowers are usually large and conspicuous, one to 12 cm in diameter, with five to nine petals in naturally occurring species of camellias. The colors of the flowers vary from white through pink colors to red. Of economic importance in East Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Indian subcontinent, leaves of C. sinensis are processed to create the popular beverage tea. The ornamental C. japonica, C. sasanqua and their hybrids are the source of hundreds of garden cultivars. C. oleifera produces tea seed oil, used in cooking and cosmetics. The various species of camellia plants are generally well-adapted to acid soils rich in humus, and most species do not grow well on chalky soil or other calcium-rich soils. Most species of camellias also require a large amount of water, either from natural rainfall or from irrigation, and the plants will not tolerate droughts. However, some of the more unusual camellias – typically species from karst soils in Vietnam – can grow without too much water. 62945
This leaf was brought to me by a co-worker. I believe it is a flowering dogwood leaf, but I cannot be certain.
On our walk yesterday up around Mount Leinster, the heather was flowering beautifully and added a wonderful pink/purple tinge to the scenic landscape. It was damp with mist hanging in the air and hints of the sun trying to break through. So everything had a glitter about them including this heather flowering.

LUCY FLOWERING ENGLISH TRANSLATION
The glimmering haze, it dazzles my eyes for no reason
It seems the soften ice is about to melt
Over the long night of winter solstice, my wandering steps
You know, (a dark and lonely day alone)
I don’t even remember that day
Do you remember the day when you smiled brightly?
If I could give you everything I felt
Wind, please bring me spring
(Like cherry blossom petals flutter)
Time, please permeate into my spring
More and more and more
A pitiful heart trembling silently
It would get far away from everything like a lotus flower on flowing water
Just stay where you are (It’s beautiful)
Do you remember the day when you smiled brightly?
If I could give you everything I felt
Wind, please bring me spring
(Like cherry blossom petals flutter)
Time, please permeate into my spring
More and more and more
Like slipping on the sunlight
We melt in softly (softly)
Like flowers with open arms, your dreams go on & on
That feeling of being unable to do anything
What if I remain alone and wither away?
It’s okay (it’s okay) someday (someday)
It’s going to bloom blue
I will remember you like that
Do you remember the day when you smiled brightly?
If I could give you everything I felt
Wind, please bring me spring
(Like cherry blossom petals flutter)
Time, please permeate into my spring
More and more and more
Like slipping on the sunlight
We melt in softly (softly)
Like flowers with open arms, your dreams go on & on
There are numerous yucca trees at the side of the lane we walk up to the village and many of them are in flower. I've never seen so many yucca trees in one place and definitely not that many which are in flower. I cut one of the flowers down and took it home to see if I could get a half-decent photo out of it. It's about 2 feet in height and laden with the types of flowers you see.
