It is the middle of winter where I live, and we are currently going through a rather arctic blast with grey leaden skies and winds that cat cut through you.
In spite of that, it was mild enough for a winter day to go out, so I went for a walk the other day. Whilst I was out, I came across a wonderful lone vermilion rose on a thorny bush. It was such a brilliant colour that it caught my eye from across the road and I crossed over to see it. Luckily I had my camera with me!
It just shows that even in the heart of winter, there is still beauty and colour to be found!
I hope this brightens your day, regardless of whether you are in the middle of winter or summer.
Taken for Compositionally Challenged - Week 21 - Fill the Frame
(this is my first time participating - hope I tagged/labelled everything correctly)
Day 143/365:
Another double exposure of my roses, a bit samey but needs must sometimes. Slightly different as it was a single rose yesterday and this one is with Lensbaby Velvet 56
Glasswork flowers. Shooting it in full frame, it looks like a kaleidoscope.
Red parts of this glass is 15mm.
Paeony.
You'd think I'd know better by now:
'Oh... it's Monday already...That means it's Macro Mondays.
I wonder what the theme is [he looks at his feed with all the titles].
It must be "Fill the Frame"! [be patient - his brain is startlingly slow on a Monday morning, as opposed to being just slow the rest of the time].
Nice easy theme. No time left to actually take anything... but I wonder what I've already taken this week that would fit.
Ah this year's paeonies are out...
I then select and process a likely one [well, let's be honest the only one that could remotely be good enough for the task {sighs}...]
Tags it...
THEN I read the group's theme description.
[You'd think he would be more planned by now and at least know to read the theme first, idiot.
Lucky idiot...
this time...'
So then. A white paeony from my garden.
Yes, they're out again. And with the most enormous blooms I've ever seen on them.
And I'm in love.
Again.
Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image, and the flower. Happy Macro Mondays :)

Developed in Capture One.
Processed in Affinity with inpainting to get rid of spots and sensor dust. Sharpened with Unsharp Mask; then with High Pass/Linear Blend which brought out the veins on the inner petals nicely.]

A back lit geode that I acquired at Luray Caverns several years ago while in Virginia. HMM everyone! Stay healthy and safe!
I am not a huge fan of rhubarb. I don't know anyone who is. Why would you want to be? Lol. I pretty much just like it in desserts because I find it way too tart. I cringe at the thought of back when I was a kid my brother and I would eat it while dipping the end of the stalk in a small container of sugar and biting into it. That does not appeal to me now and I prefer it in a strawberry rhubarb pie the most.
This morning I picked our first crop of it from our garden and cut it up and put in the freezer. Strawberries are just beginning to come into season here and the weather has been so perfect for them. This afternoon we took advantage of the sunshine and took a drive in the convertible to Heeman's Greenhouse and while we were there we also bought two quarts of their first crop of strawberries which we enjoyed for our dessert tonight. A strawberry rhubarb pie is coming in the near future, I just wasn't feeling like baking one today...
Thanks for your visit! I hope everyone had a great day!
I’ve been going through some of my older photos and found this one that I’ve always liked, but never got around to posting on here. :)
It’s ice accumulated on a fence after an ice storm that we had back in December 2013. Such a long time ago now...
Il y a dans mon jardin quelques Cocotiers nains que j'ai plantés dans des pots. Leurs palmes sont un sujet intéressant pour faire de la macro avec les différents tons de vert que l'on peut observer. #Macro #MacroMondays #Redux #OneColor #FillTheFrame #UnusualPatterns
Macro Monday- Fill the Frame
Some of the flowers from my yard. I placed them on my light box and then placed a piece of glass over top.

Last year this plant was buried under a pile of builder's detritus before I realised what had happened and it was too late to prevent. It remained maltreated for the whole season!
I am thrilled and somewhat amazed to find that this year it has flowered better than ever!
Isn't Mother Nature wonderful?
Thank you to everyone who pauses long enough to look at my photo. Any comments or Faves are very much appreciated.

Beautiful small leaf with red stripes. This plant was in the Butterfly Garden at Hershey, PA. Don't know the name of the plant..

Macro Mondays theme Fill the Frame
I don't know why but I found this theme really difficult. The framing and getting close enough was tough, luckily I didn't have to crop anything out (and I forgot to measure but I'm pretty sure this fits well within the group’s restrictions).
Happy Macro Monday! 😊
All this hot weather is making me hungry for an ice cream!
My photo for the theme this week of 'fill the frame'.
Happy Macro Monday! :-)
Very busy bees today - collecting nectar here.
You can see cells full but not capped, so they're not ready yet. Adjacent cells have their wax lid, so full of honey. HMM so it was this or the spinny thing flic.kr/p/TWEap4
