My grandmother had a sewing machine she used for alterations. My mother also had a sewing machine. I learned at a young age to use my mom’s sewing machine to made a few pillows out of scrap fabric.

I loved being creative from a young age and once I got to middle school would frequently use my elective credits for Home Economic classes. I continued to take those classes through high school. I got good enough sewing to make myself a few shirts and a 3-piece suit. When I graduated high school, the Home Ec. Department awarded me with a small Home Ec. Scholarship (the first boy in the history of my school to earn one).

My grandmothers sewing supplies were passed to my mom. And when my mom stopped sewing, she gave me her machine and sewing box. This collection of buttons likely has a few buttons over 60 years old. My grandmother would have been tickled to see this photo.

I never through out a button. You never know when one will come in handy! (I have the same philosophy for spare nuts, bolts and screws)

She gave me that stare today. Not sure what was the reason.

My wife's jewelry beads used for this week's theme that required each submitted posting to "fill the frame" with the subject.

Thanks for taking a look.

Happy Monday & wishing everyone a wonderful week ahead.

when it rains?

They are here to stay, the rains. I'll be eliciting some sunnier photos now and again to remind myself it won't always be this way...

Broad-leaf Drumstick

Quick couple of uploads, a hit and run. I only have a limited few minutes, we are going away for the weekend and my time on electronic devices will be very limited. Will try my best to catch up next week.

The #MacroMondays theme for tomorrow 3/10 is socket. Am hoping I labeled these correctly.

(I can’t get the exact configuration for a size verification but the closest I got was under 2 inches- I’ll post that later!)

Another of my beautiful tulips but this time reverse freelensing with the Lensbaby Velvet 56. A bit risky as it was windy so the lens was on/off/on/off but life's too short not to take the odd risk.

Compositionally Challenged Week 5 - Fill the Frame with Vibrant Color

This is about 1 1/2" of a Laurel Burch fabric swath, probably the most colorful item I own. My SIL gave it to me years ago but I don't sew, it's rarely taken out of the drawer. Works great for this challenge, though! : )

What a disaster at home today. There is no internet at the moment and I'm unable to upload the picture I took for Macro Mondays group yesterday. Here is my second best taken with my mobile. HMM everyone.

Yaupon Berries, roughly 1 quarter inch in diameter. Our yaupon is laden with berries. They will be devoured by a flock of Cedar Waxwings with some robins thrown in, in one to two days. This will occur between February and mid March. It is quite a spectacle with groups shuttling back and forth taking turns.

For 'Macro Mondays' theme of 'Fill the Frame'

Various items have come in the post this week. Some in padded envelopes, some in packets, some in cardboard sleeves, and a few in boxes. Sometimes I feel that the smaller the item the bigger the box especially when there seems to be the best part of a roll or screwed-up paper inside.

But this week there came a surprise - the paper wasn't the usual recycled grey material but something very different. This wrapping paper had been cut through in a honeycomb fashion not too obvious until you got hold of the sides and pulled to reveal the grill pattern.

And that is what you are seeing here - just a piece of disposable wrapping paper! Lit from the side and underneath a piece of multicoloured paper.

I'm a great believer in looking at the waste we tend to just throw away without looking. So much can and does provide inspiration for interesting photographs.
