A gorgeous view of the Fall colors at Kebler Pass near Crested Butte, Colorado (Oct 2004). Big thanks to Jeff Foster (jbfoster on Flickr) for sharing this photo with our USGS Science in Action Flickr Group (bit.ly/USGSPhotoPool).
Fall is here! It's FREEZING. Doing this small photoshoot with my dolls gave me the snuffles =___= ~Agatha
Falling Water Spring, in the Mark Twain National Forest in Missouri.
From Alley Spring, we headed south towards home, passing through the Mark Twain National Forest. We had a few stops planned, taking us a by a few other springs before we traveled back into Arkansas. The first was Falling Spring Mill, located a few miles down a dirt road.
This place was awesome. The spring here actually flows out of a bluff, creating a waterfall right next to the old mill. The mill was built between 1927 and 1929.
As delicate as they look, Fall crocuses, like their Spring cousins that pop up through the snow, thrive in cold frosty temps....amazing. :)
What happened on a very windy, rainy day right outside my kitchen door. Most though not all of the leaves on the trees surrounding my backyard turned yellow over the weekend. When the rain lightened to a drizzle and the wind kept blowing, it looked like a golden rain of leaves. Definitely press "L" to view at its best.

Today, we flew in to Helsinki. It's a nice break from Oslo where it was raining all the time. Since Helsinki is in the upper northern hemisphere they get "soft lighting" for hours. The hotel is right along the lake so I had a pleasant walk this afternoon taking pictures and wading by the lake. The leaves are starting to fall, what a great day :-).
This grind of White Fronted Geese looked more like a swarm as they took to the air over the harvested rice fields of Butte County. Fall/Winter migration is underway along the Pacific Flyway with the White Fronted arriving in large numbers.
"Falling down, you're falling down, falling down.
What's out of place when you look into the mirror?
The truth is blurry but the lies are getting clearer
Your eyes are fixed, your smile is so elastic
You gave me roses but they're all just made of plastic."

for Monday Photo Challenge and Thursday Retread Group.
this week's challenge......"first, a fall or Halloween themed picture (leaves, ghost 'n goblins, pumpkins...your favorite fall decorations),second, "shoot blind"! In other words, camera is to be held above your head, out to your side, or you can shoot from the hip but no view finders of any kind".

The colors of Silver Falls State Park in Oregon can be found everywhere throughout the park along with it's numerous waterfalls. Despite all the years that I have been shooting waterfalls this is my first attempt to come here in the fall.It definitely won't be my last.
Heavy snow falling. This was one of the images I had in mind as I planned my daily walk. Thought this little copse might look good snow covered. But snow was still falling when I reach it. so this is the result.

Normally seeing a tree with its leaves changing colour to brown and shedding would be enough for people to get a feel of the Fall season, however, what is the Fall experience? Fall indicates the change in season for sure, the rapid growth and abundance of summer is behind us, it's like the good stuff were gone and we're left with merely nice memories. A lone senior sitting quietly under a shedding tree, with her eyes fixated on the wonderful scenery (the sea, a bridge, a group of younger people) seems to have intensified the feeling of change, and the fleeing of time that cannot be reversed or held on to.
This morning was the first time I felt Fall in the air. A cool north breeze and cloudy all morning. Saw lots of does and fawns, but no bucks yet. It won't be long before they are on the move. Our beautiful world, pass it on.
Taken at dusk so the light was not as good as I would have liked. But, still pretty I think. I really like the reflections on the water.

Autumn is my favorite season for photography, and it’s easy to see why. From late August onward, our calendar is packed with opportunities to capture nature at its most vibrant. From Alaska to Northern Utah, Central Europe, Nova Scotia, the Great Smokies, Southern Utah, the Cypress Swamps, and Patagonia. There’s nothing like witnessing the Earth transform in a blaze of color!
