I'm not a huge football (soccer) fan but you know sometimes you gotta feel a little bit patriotic. Emirates have a whole series of these ads around Sydney featuring various flags of countries on their destination list. I am watching Australia games too of course! Tue 15 Jun

mütiges Völklein im Takt der Pfeiferweise. Ursprünglich waren es erwachsene Menschen;
Rodt in seiner
Stadtgeschichte.
1.9.2.6. Aus verkehrstechnischen Gründen musste er 1.9.1.9 verschoben werden.

Arguably the most famous lighthouse ever, and the prototype for building lighthouses on bare rocks in mid-ocean.
The Eddystone Reef lying 14 miles off Plymouth exacted a terrible toll of ships and men in the age of sail, estimated at perhaps one ship per week by Lloyd's of London insurers in 1800.
Finally in 1698 Henry Winstanley a wealthy etcher, showman, publicist , eccentric and ship owner had an 18 foot high wooden lighthouse built on a 16 foot granite base, topped with a wrought iron dome. all with outrageous rococo ornamental designs. In 1703 while visiting his lighthouse Henry Winstanley and his lighthouse were washed off the Eddystone in a furious storm and never seen again.
In 1708 a man named John Rudyerd, a silk merchant who had advanced schooling and a flair for problem solving, oversaw the construction of a new lighthouse, a round wooden tower 91 feet in height on a base of granite and oak anchored to the rock by 36 iron bars in pairs. A wood and lead lantern room constructed with a chandelier of 24 candles topped the tower. Soon after completion of the lighthouse John Rudyerd, in frail health vanished without a trace and is presumed to have died. The new structure weathered multiple storms although requiring extensive repairs in 1723, 1724 and 1744, and the Eddystone was considered conquered at last. However, tragedy struck in 1755, in the form of a major fire in the lantern room. Henry Hall, a 94 year old keeper and two younger colleagues fought valiantly, but unsuccessfully to control the fire which burnt the lighthouse down to it's stone base. The three keepers were rescued by a passing fishing boat the next day. In fighting the fire Henry Hall had swallowed a glob of molten lead from the lantern room. He died after 12 agonizing days and at autopsy a 7.5 ounce piece of lead was found in his stomach.
The next to tackle the Eddystone dilemma was 31 year old John Smeaton, a well trained engineer and member of the Royal Society of Engineers. He was approached by Robert Weston who was chief shareholder of a consortium holding the Eddystone lighthouse patent . The consortium was thinking in terms of a wooden light, considering the relative success of the Rudyerd venture, but Smeaton convinced the Board that a sleek stone tower was the way to build. Smeaton had many revolutionary ideas far ahead of his time, but the most important was the use of carefully dovetailed granite blocks to be fitted together, the use of two 12 man crews of workers and development of much improved cement. The 70 foot tower was first lit on 1759, survived all storms for over 120 years, until dismantled because the rock below was being undermined by the sea.
Much of the the light was moved one block at a time to it's new home on the Hoe in Plymouth in 1882, although a portion of the base is still on the reef.
The fourth and current Eddystone lighthouse pictured in the photo along with the remains of Smeaton's tower was built from 1878 -1882 on a rock adjacent to where Smeaton's tower had stood. The tower is 168 feet tall, constructed of granite blocks, using Smeaton's ideas, and topped with a 16 foot lantern room. The flashing white light is visible for 22 miles. The helipad was added in 1980 and the light was automated in 1982, as the first of England's major lighthouses.Arguably the famous lighthouse ever, and the prototype for building lighthouses on bare rocks in mid-ocean.

On Isola Bella in Lake Maggiore.
Views taken from inside the Borromeo Palace, of the other islands, and areas around the palace.
Isola Bella (lit. 'beautiful island') is one of the Borromean Islands of Lago Maggiore in north Italy. The island is situated in the Borromean Gulf 400 metres from the lakeside town of Stresa. Isola Bella is 320 metres long by 400 metres wide and is divided between the Palace, its Italianate garden, and a small fishing village.
Until 1632 the island—known only as l’isola inferiore or isola di sotto—was a rocky crag occupied by a tiny fishing village: but that year Carlo III of the influential House of Borromeo began the construction of a palazzo dedicated to his wife, Isabella D'Adda, from whom the island takes its name. He entrusted the works to the Milanese Angelo Crivelli, who was also to be responsible for the planning the gardens. The works were interrupted around middle of the century when the Duchy of Milan was struck by a devastating outbreak of the plague.
Construction resumed when the island passed to Carlo’s sons, Cardinal Giberto III (1615–1672) and Vitaliano VI (1620–1690); the latter in particular, with the financial backing of his elder brother, entrusted the completion of the works to the Milanese architect Carlo Fontana and turned the villa into a place of sumptuous parties and theatrical events for the nobility of Europe.
The completion of the gardens, however, was left to his nephew Carlo IV (1657–1734). They were inaugurated in 1671.
The island achieved its highest level of social success during the period of Giberto V Borromeo (1751–1837) when guests included Edward Gibbon, Napoleon and his wife Joséphine de Beauharnais, and Caroline of Brunswick, the Princess of Wales. It is said that Caroline, having fallen in love with the place, did her best to convince the Borromeo family to sell her Isola Madre or the Castelli di Cannero islands; her request being turned down, she established herself on the banks of Lake Como at Cernobbio in the Villa d’Este.
Isola Madre in the distance.
Isola Madre, at 220 m wide and 330 m long, is the largest island of the Isole Borromee archipelago which falls within the Italian part of the Alpine Lake Maggiore, in the Province of Verbano Cusio Ossola, Piedmont. The island is occupied by a number of buildings and architectural structures and is especially well known for its gardens. In the past it was known as Isola di San Vittore and later as Isola Maggiore.
The available historical sources indicate that in the middle of the ninth century the island had a church, a cemetery (whose existence is recalled by the current garden’s so-called scala dei morti, or “Staircase of the Dead”). It is known for certain that olives were cultivated here; the produce may have been employed for sacred purposes.
In 1501 Lancillotto Borromeo, one of the five children of Giovanni III Borromeo and Cleofe Pio di Carpi, introduced the cultivation of citrus fruit to the island, the plants being brought from Liguria, along with a gardener (or hortolano) to tend them. Lancillotto began the construction of the family residence on the island, which in the 1580s was extended in the renaissance style by Renato I Borromeo.
The Palazzo Borromeo was built in the sixteenth century on the remains of the early church, cemetery and perhaps castle of San Vittore (named after the martyr Victor Maurus).
The palace is surrounded by impressive gardens, the Giardini Botanici dell'Isola Madre, covering an area of eight hectares whose construction all’Inglese (in the English style) began in the late eighteenth century on the site of a citrus orchard. Particularly prized is the scala dei morti, or staircase of the dead, which in recent decades has been embellished with an important collection of Wisterias.
The family chapel of 1858 is also noteworthy; by contrast to that of Isola Bella, it contains no tombs or funerary monuments.
The little window you see on the right of the picture seems part of the church, but it isn't. It's the suite "Il Coretto" of the Bed and Breakfast Antico Monastero di Anacapri, a B&B located in the former monastery of San Michele. Annexed to the church, the monastery was suppressed during the Napoleonic Wars and subsequently became a private residence. The B&B Monastery occupies the oldest part, and the suite "The Coretto" (that means "little choir") is even in what was the nuns' choir, for this is surprisingly incorporated into the church.
...Even if winter is freezin' us cold with his breath,
"Post it Up" will be warm enough. Thanks to the new
artworks by artists from all over the world.
You are all invited to the third edition of this event,
giving you the chance to see the real urban art coming
from different places and cultures!
The artworks all contain different meaning
but share the common ground of placing art in the public realm without looking for monetary gain.
You will enjoy the expressions of the contemporary art in unexpected forms,
with live performances found only at cutting edge venues for contemporary art.
The artist showing their works and those in attendance are friends of not only our project in Italy but offer a selection of the best emerging talent in the street art world today.
The raw essence of the streets and the artist generosity and friendliness in sharing their works with the public in their countries, as well as now in Italy enthusiastically participate with the only purpose to share their feelings, their sensations, their nonsense, their logic, and their techniques.
We are proud to say that their artworks are meant to share the art itself and their heart as well.
Even the artists whose works have come from all over the world, sometimes to distant for themselves to attend, will be with us through the spirit of their masterpieces.
A truly valid award for the artists will be your presence to this free event and extraordinary exhibition to held the 26th of February, 2011 19:00h at "L@P Asilo 31" - Firenze Street, 1 - Benevento (campania) - Italy.

[ENG] The Jardins de Metis, also known as Reford Gardens, they are a few gardens of English style placed in Grand-Métis, Québec, Canada. They were opened for the public in 1962, in 1995 they were declared as Historical National Place and in 2013 as Patrimonial Site, and they are recognized internationally as an exceptional work of art of gardening. They are the fruit of the work of the passionate one, Elsie Reford, that between 1926 and 1958 transformed his fishing camp into a private paradise. Approximately 3.000 species and varieties of plants are distributed in approximately fifteen gardens. Works of contemporary art sow the route and they join with harmony the historical gardens. Every year celebrates the "International Garden Festival" in that they show contemporary gardens created by architects, landscape painters and artists of international reputation.

Origami SailBoat – Paper Boats eng.origami-kids.com/paper-boat/origami-sailboat-paper-bo...
Paper SailBoat
The Origami Sailboat is a very easy traditional origami model but the boat looks very realistic. If you use a sheet of paper with a different color on each side, the hull of the boat will be of one color, and the sail will be of the other color. The sailboat is an interesting model because it shows how to reverse a fold. It is a perfect model to play in the sand at the beach!
Difficulty level: Very Easy Time to fold 2 min. 12 steps. Folded from a one classic Single Uncut square paper, about 20cm x 20 cm.
You may use any kind of paper to fold the origami magic boat. It is a little easier if the front and the back side of the paper are slightly different whether it be in texture or color.Posted in How to make a paper airplane > Hunters

Origami Sailboat Decoration
Interested in adding a sailboat decoration to your desk, or perhaps creating a gift tag? This article sets out how to make an origami sailboat which you can use in many different ways.
The term sailboat has a broad meaning generally including yachts, (large sailboats) and smaller vessels of many configurations, which use wind as the primary means of propulsion. Some of the variations other than size are: hull configuration (monohull, catamaran, trimaran), keel type (full, fin, wing, centerboard etc.), purpose (sport, racing, cruising), number and configuration of masts, and the sail plan.
Some of the terms below have had various meanings through history, but now have a specific meaning in the parlance of modern yachting. See also the articles on sailing ships and yachts; each of these terms generally describes a larger vessel than a sailboat; however, the distinctions are blurred and the definitions vary by region and culture.
At the smaller end, the distinction among sailboards, windsurfing, and dinghies can be vague. Paper Folding SailBoat.

I would be interested to see how many KIDS actually pull this one off….LOL A Square piece of paper is essential to start with and pre-creasing of ALL of the necessary angles makes the transformational rotations much easier to do. My little one loves it. :-)Thanks.
