Xochimilco, Mexico 2015

The area of Xochimilco, located SE Mexico City, is what remains of the old wetlands, fed by fresh water springs, which covered the whole basin in the Pre-Hispanic period. Partially filled to create chinampas (artificial islands), it constitutes a canal system that was the main transportation venue until the 20th Century. Encompasing unique endangered plants and fauna, the whole area is seriously threatened since pumping of the underground water rocketed along the past century. It was delclared World Heritage Site in 1987, as an attempt to protect the area. It's a very popular place, not only for foreing visitors: locals, including Mexico City's entire families, do often go there to celebrate events, hiring one or more big trajineras along wiht Mariachis, to have lunch together.
El área de Xochimilco se sitúa al SE de la Ciudad de Maexico, es lo que queda del antiguo humedal, alimentado por manantiales de agua dulce, que cubría toda la cuenca en el Periodo Pre-Hispánico. Parcialmente rellenado para crear chinampas (islas artificiales), constituye un sistemas de canales que fue el principal medio de transporte hasta el siglo 20. Alberga ejemplares únicos de fauna y vegetación, y todo el área está seriamente amenazada desde que el bombeo de agua de los acuífieros se disparó a lo largo del pasado siglo. Fue declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad en 1987, en un intento de proteger la zona. Es un sitio muy popular, no solo para los extranjeros: los habitantes de la zona, incluyendo familias enteras de la Ciudad de Mexico, acuden allí a menudo para celebrar eventos, alquilando una o varias grandes trajineras junto a algún Mariachi, paa comer juntos.

ENG: On the way to the Baltic Sea coast to Usedom-Zinnowitz. Somewhere on the B111 highway in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania near Züssow and heavy snowfall. Funnily enough, I finally saw snow here in this winter. Sorry, it's spring already on April 1st. No joke. And then a good 20 centimeters. Now spring can come.
GER: Auf dem Weg zur Ostseeküste nach Usedom-Zinnowitz. Irgendwo auf der Landstraße B111 in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern bei Züssow und dichtem Schneetreiben. Irrwitzigerweise habe ich hier endlich mal Schnee diesen Winter gesehen. Entschuldigung, es ist ja am 1. April schon Frühling. Kein Scherz. Und dann gleich gute 20 Zentimeter. Nun darf der Frühling ruhig kommen.

ENG: In my smartphone memory is now a bit longer a small picture series with 7 photos of the newest subway station of Berlin. The speech is here from the subway station Museum Island (Museumsinsel).
The "Museuminsel" subway station is one of three of the newest subway stations in Berlin's Mitte district of the same name. It is part of the extension of the U5 underground line from Hönow deep in the east of the city beyond Alexanderplatz to Brandenburg Gate and on to the terminus at Hauptbahnhof. Construction had its groundbreaking ceremony in 2010 and it was ceremonially opened in mid-2021. The mega highlight here is the integrated starry sky. The other two new stations are also already in operation and bear the names "Rotes Rathaus" and "Unter den Linden".

GER: In meinem Smartphone Speicher liegt jetzt schon etwas länger eine kleine Bilder Serie mit 7 Fotos vom neusten U-Bahnhof Berlins. Die Rede ist hier vom U-Bahnhof Museumsinsel.
Der U-Bahnhof „Museumsinsel“ ist einer von drei der neusten U-Bahnhöfe im Berliner Ortsteil Mitte des gleichnamigen Bezirks. Er ist Teil der Verlängerung der U-Bahn-Linie U5 von Hönow tief im Osten der Stadt über den Alexanderplatz hinaus zum Brandenburger Tor bis zur Endstation Hauptbahnhof. Der Bau hatte seinen ersten Spatenstich 2010 und er wurde Mitte 2021 feierlich eröffnet. Das mega Highlight ist hier der integrierte Sternenhimmel. Die anderen zwei neuen Bahnhöfe sind ebenfalls schon in Betrieb und tragen die Namen „Rotes Rathaus“ sowie „Unter den Linden“.

Café de la Grave, a true institution in the Magdalen Islands. It is located in Havre-Aubert, one of the islands of the Îles-de-la-Madeleine archipelago, in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, in Quebec, Canada.

ENG: At night to an Suburban train station in the Berlin district of Prenzlauer Berg. The S-Bahn at Greifswalder Straße is once again late. Waiting on the platform is easier if you can take a few pictures. As here for example with an empty advertising board as an eye-catcher.
GER: Nachts auf einen S-Bahnhof im Berliner Bezirk Prenzlauer Berg. Die S-Bahn an der Greifswalder Straße hat mal wieder Verspätung. Da macht sich das warten auf dem Bahnsteig doch leichter wenn man ein paar Bilder machen kann. Wie hier zum Beispiel mit einer leeren Werbetafel als Blickfang.

ENG: You cann see the reconstructed evangelic St. Nikolai church from 1837 in Potsdam at the Old Market Square. The listed sacral building was designed by the architects Karl Friedrich Schinkel, Ludwig Persius and Friedrich August Stüler. A special feature is the tambour dome of the 77 metre high building, which rises far above the roofs of the city and was erected between 1843 and 1850.
Towards the end of the Second World War, the sacred building was struck during the air raid on Potsdam and subsequently severely damaged by Soviet artillery fire. After many years of reconstruction, the church of the Evangelical Church of St. Nicholas in Potsdam was consecrated again in 1981 and has been open to visitors daily ever since. In addition to church services, concerts are also held in the Nikolaikirche.
GER: Sie können hier die rekonstruierte evangelische St. Nikolai-Kirche von 1837 in Potsdam auf dem Alten Marktplatz sehen. Der unter Denkmalschutz stehender Sakralbau stammt aus der Architekten Feder von Karl Friedrich Schinkel, Ludwig Persius sowie Friedrich August Stüler. Eine Besonderheit ist die weit über den Dächern der Stadt emporragende Tambourkuppel des 77 Meter hohen Gebäudes, diese wurde in der Zeit von 1843 bis 1850 errichtet.
Gegen Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs wurde der Sakralbau beim Luftangriff auf Potsdam getroffen und anschließend durch sowjetischen Artilleriebeschuss schwer beschädigt. Nach langen Jahren des Wiederaufbaus konnte das Gotteshaus der Evangelischen St.-Nikolai-Kirchengemeinde Potsdam 1981 erneut geweiht werden und ist seitdem täglich für Besucher geöffnet. Neben den Gottesdiensten finden in der Nikolaikirche auch Konzertveranstaltungen statt.
ENG: Here you will get an overview of the royal castle town Schwangau in the Bavarian Allgäu. I have taken this photo from the balcony of Neuschwanstein Castle. The castle Hohenschwangau as well as the turquoise alp lake and the tourist stronghold Schwangau can be seen.
GER: Hier bekommt ihr einen überblick über den Königsschlösser Ort Schwangau im bayrischen Allgäu. Diese Aufnahme habe ich vom Balkon des Schloss Neuschwanstein geknipst. Zu sehen ist das Schloss Hohenschwangau sowie der türkisfarbene Alpsee und die Touristenhochburg Schwangau.
Goldener Oktober überm Großen Ahornboden
ENG: The Schäzlerpalais Staircase in Augsburg can be seen, this museum houses the municipal and state art collection. It is located at the Herkulesbrunnen, directly at the corner of Maximilianstraße and Katharinengasse and used to be the city palace of a banker.
The former Palais House on site was replaced by a new building in 1765. This rococo palace was built according to plans by the Munich court architect Karl Albert von Lespilliez. The construction work took four and a half years. In October 1958, Wolfgang Freiherr von Schaezler (fourth generation) donated the building to the city of Augsburg on condition that it never be sold and used exclusively for cultural purposes.
GER: Zu sehen ist das Augsburger Schäzlerpalais Treppenhaus, dieses Museum beherbergt die städtische und staatliche Kunstsammlung. Es liegt am Herkulesbrunnen, direkt an der Maximilianstraße Ecke Katharinengasse und war früher das Stadtschloss eines Bankiers.
Das ehemalige Palais Haus vor Ort wurde ab 1765 durch einen Neubau ersetzt. Dieses Rokoko-Palais entstand nach Plänen des Münchner Hofbaumeisters Karl Albert von Lespilliez. Die Baumaßnahmen dauerten viereinhalb Jahre. Im Oktober 1958 schenkte Wolfgang Freiherr von Schaezler (in vierter Generation) das Gebäude der Stadt Augsburg mit der Auflage, es niemals zu veräußern und ausschließlich für kulturelle Zwecke zu nutzen.

The Befreiungshalle "Hall of Liberation" is a Neoclassical monument on the Michelsberg hill above the town of Kelheim in Bavaria, Germany. It stands upstream of Regensburg on the river Donau at the confluence of the Donau and the Altmühl, i.e. the Rhine-Main-Donau Canal. It was commissioned by King Ludwig I of Bavaria to commemorate the victory over Napoleon in the liberation war of 1813-15. The opening ceremony was on the 18 October 1863.
You can see the monumental dome roof.
GER: Mein absolutes Highlight war ein Besuch der Befreiungshalle in Kelheim. Noch mehr tolle Bilder von hier, kommt die nächsten Tage.
Die Befreiungshalle ist ein Denkmal auf dem Michelsberg oberhalb der Stadt Kelheim in Niederbayern. Sie steht von Regensburg gesehen donauaufwärts an der Einmündung der Altmühl bzw. des Main-Donau-Kanals in die Donau. Errichtet wurde die Befreiungshalle im Andenken an die gewonnenen Schlachten gegen Napoleon während der Befreiungskriege in den Jahren von 1813 bis 1815. Auftraggeber des Baus war König Ludwig I. von Bayern. Die Eröffnungszeremonie war am 18. Oktober 1863.
Zu sehen ist das monumentale Kuppel Dach.
ENG: Hi, everybody out there. Somehow it's strange when the landmarks of a city are so empty. Only very few people have crossed my way on Monday during my little bike tour to free my head from the clinic everyday life. That is somehow eerie and surreal.

GER: Hi ihr lieben da draußen. Irgendwie ist es schon komisch, wenn die Wahrzeichen einer Stadt so verweist sind. Nur ganz ganz wenige Leute haben meinen Weg am Montag gekreuzt bei meiner kleinen Radtour um den Kopf vom Klinik Alltag freizubekommen. Das ist schon irgendwie unheimlich und surreal.
Zu sehen ist der Berliner Dom im Berliner Ortsteil Mitte.
Rågårdsvik is a small village on the south side of the peninsular Skaftö. Rågårdsvik is just by the Ellösfjord and Malö Strömmar, and is a much visited summer resort.
ENG: The "Festival of Lights" is already over this year, but here comes my supplement to the Lights spectacle from 17.10.2019.
This event illuminates pretty much everything that is called a sight in Berlin.
GER: Das „Festival of Lights“ ist zwar schon vorbei dieses Jahr, aber hier kommt noch mein Nachtrag zum Lichter Schauspiel vom 17.10.2019.
Bei dieser Veranstaltung wird so ziemlich alles beleuchtet, was man in Berlin als Sehenswürdigkeit bezeichnet.
ENG: The Berlin International Film Festival, also called the Berlinale, is one of the world's leading film festivals and most reputable media events. It is held annually in Berlin, Germany. The hunt for the golden bear can now begin at the 68th Berlinale on Potsdamer Platz in Berlin. From 15 to 25 February 2018, around 385 films will be shown. There are 15 international and 4 German films in the race for the golden bear.
GER: Die Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin auch Berlinale genannt, ist eines der weltweit führenden Filmfestivals und renommiertesten Medienevents. Dieses findet jährlich in Berlin statt.. Die jagd auf den goldenen bären kann nun beginnen zur 68. Berlinale am Potsdamer Platz in Berlin. Vom 15. bis zum 25. Februar 2018 sollen rund 385 Filme gezeigt werden. Es gehen 15. internationale und 4. deutsche Filme ins Rennen um den goldenen Bären.

The modern Betnava mansion replaced a medieval court, which was first mentioned in medieval written sources in 1313 as the court of Rudolf, a Maribor citizen and former provincial clerk in Breg near Maribor. The second reliable mention of Betnava can be found in a document from 1363: it is mentioned as Paldrumss hoff – Paltram's manor, i.e. the manor of Rudolf's son Paltram (I). In a document from 1378, Rudolf's grandson Paltram (II) is referred to as von Wintnaw – from Betnava – and this is the first explicit mention of Betnava. Probably at the beginning of the 16th century, but certainly before 1526, the Auerspergs became the owners. In 1555, Volf Engelbert Auersperg sold the estate to his brother-in-law Luka Szekely, and in 1587, the Herbersteins became the owners. In 1677, Janez Jakob Count Khisl bought the castle, but it burned down in 1685. The building was supposedly only restored by the Counts of Brandis, who inherited Betnava along with other associated estates in 1727. Betnava remained in the possession of the Brandis family until 1863, when it became the summer residence of the bishops of Lavant. In 1941, the German occupiers took the manor away from the diocese, and after the war it became state property.

Das moderne Herrenhaus Betnava ersetzte einen mittelalterlichen Hof, der erstmals 1313 in mittelalterlichen Schriftquellen als Hof von Rudolf, einem Bürger von Maribor und ehemaligen Provinzbeamten in Breg bei Maribor, erwähnt wurde. Die zweite zuverlässige Erwähnung von Betnava findet sich in einem Dokument aus dem Jahr 1363: Es wird als „Paldrumss hoff“ – Paltrams Hof, d. h. der Hof von Rudolfs Sohn Paltram (I) – erwähnt. In einem Dokument aus dem Jahr 1378 wird Rudolfs Enkel Paltram (II.) als „von Wintnaw“ – aus Betnava – bezeichnet, und dies ist die erste explizite Erwähnung von Betnava. Wahrscheinlich zu Beginn des 16. Jahrhunderts, aber sicherlich vor 1526, wurden die Auerspergs zu den Eigentümern. Im Jahr 1555 verkaufte Volf Engelbert Auersperg das Anwesen an seinen Schwager Luka Szekely, und 1587 wurden die Herbersteins zu den Eigentümern. Im Jahr 1677 kaufte Janez Jakob Graf Khisl das Schloss, das jedoch 1685 niederbrannte. Das Gebäude wurde vermutlich erst von den Grafen von Brandis wieder aufgebaut, die Betnava zusammen mit anderen dazugehörigen Gütern 1727 erbten. Betnava blieb bis 1863 im Besitz der Familie Brandis, dann wurde es zur Sommerresidenz der Bischöfe von Lavant. 1941 nahmen die deutschen Besatzer das Gut der Diözese weg, und nach dem Krieg ging es in Staatsbesitz über.

ENG: The former monastery church in Füssen is now the parish church of the parish of St. Mang (Patrozinium St. Magnus). A very beautiful and impressive church right next to the castle „Hohes Schloss“. From the outside one can hardly imagine the splendour of the inside. A very interesting and really impressive building.
GER: Die ehemalige Klosterkirche in Füssen ist heute die Pfarrkirche der Stadtpfarrei St. Mang (Patrozinium St. Magnus). Eine sehr schöne und eindrucksvolle Kirche direkt neben dem Hohen Schloss. Von außen kann man die Pracht des inneren kaum erahnen. Ein sehr interessantes und wirklich beeindruckendes Bauwerk.
