Vajrapani is pictured dancing wildly within a halo of flames, which represent transformation. He holds a vajra (thunderbolt) in his right hand, which emphasizes the power to cut through the darkness of delusion. Vajrapani looks wrathful, but as a representation of the enlightened mind, he’s completely free from hatred.

Self portrait of myself. Goal was to emphasize the eyes. Though I question if the shadow around the face adds to the mood of the photo or is more of a distraction...Also, is the overall photo just too dark? Another goal for this was to add a sense of mystery to the photo, but wearing a hood and not revealing the details of the entire face. Here is a link to another version where I selected the eyes in photoshop, attempted to put more emphasis and sparkle in them... Here

(Technical: Used the Orton technique (Gausian Blur 15) The made a midtone selection using the Red channel and adjusted levels to enhance skin tones.)

HAPPY SLIDERS SUNDAY !!

I did a lot of heavy sliding here.

It was to emphasize how pretty this flowering bush*

manages to remain, right through the winter.

I am living in the "winter of my years."

However, I make a modest attempt to remain presentable.

So, the efforts of this bush resonate with me. 😎

But this bush gets to come back into its full glory in spring.

I don't know whether a springtime awaits me.

I leave it to theologians to address that.

* Thanks to some of you early commenters, I have learned that

this is some kind of Hydrangea, rather than a Viburnum.

Northwest had long emphasized its service to Asia, particularly Japan. By the late 1980s, however, its geographic reach had expanded considerably, including significant transatlantic operations.

Accordingly, it decided to re-brand its aircraft, which heretofore wore "Northwest Orient" titles on their fuselages to simply "Northwest", as seen here at MSP, August 11, 1987, on DC-10-40 N141US, while N155US in the background still wears the more traditional markings. In retrospect, this can now be recognized as the "dis-orienting" of the airline...

While the National Park Service emphasizes the 1781 siege at Star Fort, it also interprets the November 1775 of Ninety Six with this reconstructed fort. One Patriot and one Loyalist died in this three-day siege, which ended with a truce.

The park also mentions some small-scale battles in the Anglo-Cherokee War of 1758-61. Other than a stretch of the Cherokee Trail, it does not have any material objects in the field to interpret that war.

If you feel yourself in such hard situation, emphasize on your talent and keep going until the last moment of your breath. You better die for a dream, rather for a scream.

Here's one from the first evening here on Lake Michigan. I cannot emphasize enough how incredible the summer sunsets are in this little corner of the world. Even the past few evenings when there were few clouds, the sunset colors were just plain awesome.

I'm almost done with my summer work-cation and I'll be heading back to California tomorrow evening. I'll miss being here, but will be back next year to enjoy the relaxed pace...and the killer sunsets.

Happy Friday to all...

The inscription behind the statue emphasizes his role in preserving the Union through the Americam Civil War.

" IN THIS TEMPLE.

AS IN THE HEARTS OF THE PEOPLE.

FOR WHOM HE SAVED THE UNION.

THE MEMORY OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN.

Abraham Lincoln was elected to the House of Representatives in 1846, He became the 16th president of the United States in 1861.

He led the country through the Civil War, and was assassinated shortly after in 1865. He is credited with leading the way to the abolition of slavery.

Washington DC; March 2025

This shot has been taken inside the Stadschloss (city palace) of Weimar, Germany. It is a section in the basement of the palace that is illuminated very nicely.

The vision for this shot to have the the left side counter the right side and the lower part counter the upper part. Therefore, the right side is nearly a negative of theleft side (at least it should be that way but it could not be fully accomplished) and the upper part of the shot emphasizes the bright lights while the lower part emphasizes the dark linghts. I hope this works well, I am quite unsure because I had to make several tonal "corrections" as well as adjusting the perspective due to wide-angle lens distortions. I hope you like it.

Any comment is welcome, esp critisicm (preferably constructive ones). I will not delete any of them. So, feel free to tell me what you think about that shot.

Deliberately overprocessed to emphasize the roof tiles and the symmetry. It's strange how you can walk by something over and over and still see it through new eyes one day. Today, the bright sunlight on the roof grabbed me. HWW, and HSS!

April 23, 1923 Independent day of Turkey....

This national day (23 April National Sovereignty and Children's Day) in Turkey is a unique event. The founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, dedicated April 23 to the children of the country to emphasize that they are the future of the new nation. It was on April 23, 1920, during the War of Independence, that the Grand National Assembly met in Ankara and laid down the foundations of a new, independent, secular, and modern republic from the ashes of the Ottoman Empire. Following the defeat of the Allied invasion forces on September 9, 1922 and the signing of the Treaty of Lausanne on July 24, 1923, Ataturk started his task of establishing the institutions of the new state. Over the next eight years, Ataturk and his followers adopted sweeping reforms to create a modern Turkey, divorced from her Ottoman past. In unprecedented moves, he dedicated the sovereignty day to the children and entrusted in the hands of the youth the protection of this sovereignty and independence.

Every year, the children in Turkey celebrate this "Sovereignty and Children's Day" as a national holiday. Schools participate in week-long ceremonies marked by performances in all fields in large stadiums watched by the entire nation. Among the activities on this day, the children send their representatives to replace state officials and high ranking bureaucrats in their offices. The President, the Prime Minister, the Cabinet Ministers, provincial governors all turn over their positions to children's representatives. These children, in turn, sign executive orders relating to educational and environmental policies. On this day, the children also replace the parliamentarians in the Grand National Assembly and hold a special session to discuss matters concerning children's issues.

Over the last two decades, the Turkish officials have been working hard to internationalize this important day. Their efforts resulted in large number of world states' sending groups of children to Turkey to participate in the above stated festivities. During their stay in Turkey, the foreign children are housed in Turkish homes and find an important opportunity to interact with the Turkish kids and learn about each other's countries and cultures. The foreign children groups also participate in the special session of the Grand National Assembly. This results in a truly international Assembly where children pledge their commitment to international peace and brotherhood.

I can't emphasize enough how important it is to appreciate every season for what it is. After a winter of contemplative days, I love the way the sun feels on my skin now, and I am so excited for long summer days full of sunshine and warmth. I hope you are, too. And if it’s cloudy or rainy where you are today, I hope you don’t mind. :)

Yell - ow!

I admit, since I started this project, I began watching scenes in a different way.

Emphasizing the color as the main subject of every shot opened a really new set of possible scenarios I never thought of.

So here it is, the fourth shot of the week. Using red and blue for the first photo wasn't a really brilliant idea - at all. Finding possible nice scenes with the criteria I chose is getting harder but hey, it's only the beginning!

For those who don't know the rules of this challenge I created, here they are:

-The main subject of every photo will be one (or two) colors that are particular/strange in the scene. (Green can't be the main subject of a Forest shoot. Grey can't be the main subject of a street and so on.)

-The chosen color have to be highlighted in the shot.

-I can't repeat a color during the same week.

-I can't use similar subjects during the same week. (I can't take 7 pics of 7 different-colored flowers for example).

-Colors HAVE TO BE REAL!

-I have to take a pic per day, for a week.

Part of a series. This one is taken from a closer vantage point and emphasizes the waterfall and mill under the bridge.

I wanted to emphasize the shapes and textures of this Iris petal so I side lit it. I placed a Yongnuo strobe in a 24 inch soft box at camera right so that the side lighting would create the shadows that reveal shapes and texture. The flash in manual mode was triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N.

I've taken quite a few Iris pictures and they can be seen in my Iris album if you like that kind of thing.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated warriors on the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, presented them with state awards, and handed combat flags, honorary distinction ribbons “For Courage and Bravery,” and a ribbon bearing an honorary name to unit commanders.

The Head of State emphasized that this holiday celebrates the Armed Forces of a country that knows how to defend itself and stands so firmly that there is simply no one in the world who could afford to disregard our state.

“And even those in the world who still do not believe in Ukraine, or simply do not know enough about our state, are still compelled to reckon with how Ukraine will respond,” the President said.

According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine now holds strong positions in negotiations precisely because Ukrainians stand firmly in our army, uphold our statehood, and defend our independence.

“While defending Ukraine, our army has evolved to the point that it now serves in many ways as a model for other armies around the world. But the changes must continue, and they will. Our army must be as modern as possible in every respect,” the President stressed.

The Head of State thanked every family of Ukrainian warriors and called on everyone to always remember relatives, friends, acquaintances, and strangers – all Ukrainians who gave their lives for Ukraine. Attendees observed a moment of silence in honor of all fallen Ukrainian warriors.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented the Orders of the Golden Star to the families of fallen Heroes of Ukraine. The highest state award was bestowed upon:

Senior Sergeant Ihor Zhuravel. He provided crucial intelligence and captured a Russian radio station, eliminating four occupiers, organized the evacuation of the wounded, and covered their movement. On August 10 last year, he sustained two consecutive injuries but did not cease fire. In this battle, Ihor Zhuravel eliminated about 20 invaders, ensured the regrouping of units and evacuation of the wounded, but was killed by a third injury during artillery fire.

Junior Sergeant Vitalii Karvatskyi. He voluntarily mobilized into the Territorial Defense Forces at the start of the full-scale Russian invasion. He carried out combat missions on the fiercest sectors of the front, including the Avdiivka and Pokrovsk directions. From April 2024, he served as an FPV drone operator on the Kharkiv axis, destroying over 600 enemy infantry and dozens of armored vehicles. Vitalii Karvatskyi was killed on June 12 this year by an enemy FPV drone strike.

Soldier Oleh Yarovyi. In August last year, in the Donetsk region, he defended a position alone for a week against Russian attacks. In December, armed with only one machine gun, he eliminated more than 20 occupiers. Self-taught in drone operations, he used them to evacuate the wounded, deliver ammunition, and adjust fire. Oleh Yarovyi was killed on July 10 this year in a rifle engagement, defending his position to the last.

Three more Heroes of Ukraine were personally honored by the President. Awards went to:

Commander of the 414th Separate Unmanned Systems Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Senior Lieutenant Andrii Klymenko. He participated in the defense of Kyiv and battles in the Kherson, Kharkiv, Sumy, and Donetsk regions. From June to September this year, the unit under Andrii Klymenko’s command struck over 10,000 Russian military personnel.

Soldier Liubomyr Mikalo. He took part in battles in the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions from April 2022, repeatedly repelling enemy assaults despite being heavily outnumbered. Wounded several times, he continued defending Ukraine. From May to July, he held positions for 41 days, repelling 17 Russian assaults and personally eliminating at least 25 occupiers.

Junior Sergeant Serhii Tyshchenko. Since June 24 last year, a combat medic has remained on the front lines without rotation for 471 consecutive days, saving the lives of his brothers-in-arms who were holding back multiple enemy assaults in the Bakhmut district. He repeatedly rescued wounded brothers-in-arms at the risk of his own life. Despite the opportunity to rotate out earlier, Serhii Tyshchenko refused to leave his unit.

In addition, Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded defenders the Crosses of Military Merit. Recipients included:

Major Vladyslav Kotov. Pilot of Su-25 attack aircraft and MiG-29 fighter jet. Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, he carried out 253 combat sorties to cover infantry, destroy Russian aviation assets, and conduct missile and bomb strikes on enemy equipment and forces. He completed dozens of successful operations, destroying six drones, a cruise missile, five command points, and two personnel concentrations.

Senior Sergeant Denys Marin. Volunteer and defender of Bakhmut. He set up tactical medicine training in combat conditions, organized medics, and built a medical evacuation system. Under his leadership, 30 wounded warriors were saved. From January to August last year, he evacuated about 70 wounded defenders, sustaining injuries himself. After treatment, rehabilitation, and prosthetics, he returned to his battalion.

Captain Oleksandr Cherednichenko. Thanks to his actions and coordination with the strike UAV company, on July 25 this year, the enemy's advancement was halted, a position was held, and eight occupiers were eliminated. Over the course of a month, by repelling enemy assaults, Oleksandr Cherednichenko ensured the destruction of more than 600 occupiers using unmanned systems.

The President also awarded defenders with the Orders of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, I and II class, Orders “For Courage,” I–III class, and the Order of Princess Olga, III class.

The Head of State presented combat flags to the commander of the 141st Separate Mechanized Brigade, 414th Separate Unmanned Systems Brigade “Magyar's Birds,” 425th Separate Assault Regiment “Skelia,” and the 108th Separate Assault Battalion “Da Vinci Wolves” of the 59th Separate Assault Unmanned Systems Brigade named after Yakiv Handziuk.

Commanders of the 33rd Separate Mechanized Brigade, 117th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade, 12th Separate Army Aviation Brigade named after Corporal General Viktor Pavlenko, and the 32nd Separate Artillery Brigade received the distinctions “For Courage and Bravery.”

Additionally, the President presented the ribbon bearing the honorary name “named after Hero of Ukraine Valerii Hudz” to the commander of the 42nd Separate Mechanized Brigade.

One of the most intense elements of the image of Kavala is its citadel. While it stands on the top of the peninsula of Virgin Mary (Panagia) it is tied up in a harmonious total with the houses of the homonymous historical district that extended all around it in tiers. It is interesting to watch the course of the fortress in time.

The name “Christoupolis” first appears in texts of the beginning of the 9th century. The change of the city’s name should not be linked to its abandonment, but to its reorganisation as a fortress of the Byzantine state. The role of Christoupolis as a fortress is particularly emphasized in Byzantine texts: «the Christoupolis fortress as on the one side was very powerful thanks to its construction... on the other side as a bolster lies down… it leads through Thrace, and thirdly as it is onshore and it could easily enter into alliances” (Ioannes Cantacuzenus, 1,4 Bonnae edition). The citadel (fortress) standing dominatingly on the top of the hill of the peninsula, at a height of approximately 70 metres, was reconstructed upon the remnants of the older Byzantine castle, in two phases: first, at the beginning of 1425 in view of the imminent attack of the Venetian fleet, the Ottomans built the “new walls”, obviously the parts that had been destroyed during the siege and occupation of Christoupolis (1390-1391). Secondly, in approximately 1530 the walls were repaired once again, at a larger extent and more assiduous intervention. At this time, the exterior surrounding walls of the citadel were built, with the addition of which the fortress was extended considerably and increased its defensive puissance. More specifically, the exterior surrounding walls of the citadel must have been built during the years 1530 -1536, at the era where Suleiman the Magnificent decided to enforce its defence in several coastline positions (e.g. Thessaloniki – the White Tower). The exterior surrounding walls linked the citadel with the half destroyed then perimetrical walls of the peninsula and also fortified the lowest side of the hill, towards the harbour. The two entrance gates of the citadel are found here also: the First (in the place of an older Byzantine gate), is found at the end of today’s Kapsali street and is equipped with a «zematistra» (scalding spot – from where the defenders threw boiling oil onto the enemies).

life is too short & unpredictable ... happiness starts inside (within) 💜♥️💛 ... it starts with tiniest details (wasn’t this something that WW emphasized centuries ago) ... his heart & work inspires me ... i love it in unexplainable way ♥️

It is important to emphasize that this location is in the center of a major metropolitan area, thus illustrating that it is possible for nature to co-exist with an urban environment. Thanks to the Parks Department, Forest Park is in better shape now than it has been in many decades --- a true gem, beautiful and historic. Few cities in America are privileged to have a park of this quality.

The photograph captures a picturesque view of Prague's Main Station, emphasizing its intricate and intertwined railway tracks. In the foreground, the historical station building takes center stage, captivating with its architectural charm and historical significance.

Two impressive arched halls of the station stand out prominently in the photo, creating an impression of strength and monumentality. These halls, with their elegant curvature, serve as a striking blend of modern architecture and elements of old-world elegance.

In the background, one can observe the intricate railway tracks, imparting a sense of technical artistry and the complexity of railway infrastructure. The tracks meander and intertwine, with the distant view highlighting the dynamism and vitality of the railway hub.

Overall, this photograph of Prague's Main Station is a captivating fusion of history and modernity, where ancient architecture stands in contrast with the technical complexity and dynamism of railway operations.

The abandoned boat, weathered and broken, creates a haunting presence against the serene water. The black and white treatment emphasizes the textural details of the deteriorating hull while the mirror-like reflection adds a ghostly symmetry. The composition places the boat in perfect isolation, with the distant hills providing subtle context without stealing focus. The stillness of the water and the moody sky create a contemplative atmosphere that speaks to themes of abandonment, the passage of time, and the beauty found in imperfection.

Thanks for the comments and proposals of cropping. I'll try to explain some of my thoughts in the after-processing.

1. I chose to turn the colour photo (with blue sky as nearly the only tone) into B&W. The clouding would thereby play a major role.

2. The lower part of the legs was made artificial out of focus for emphasizing the strong perspective and the 'tromphe d'oeil' effect.

3. I've cropped the original into a square format, with a composition balancing the sky/sculpture + light/dark + giving different parts a role according to rule of the golden section.

A bolder edit emphasizing a single colorful tree

At the time when I acquired the exposures for this image, my idea was to produce a panorama. I did that and posted it to this photo-stream, but somehow I never really liked it. Too busy I think.

Recently, I reassembled the images into a panorama, and fiddled with that idea, and still did not like it, so I decided to crop the field and generate an image which emphasizes the reflection aspect of the scene.

The water in the reservoir is near it's lowest annual level and it is very clear, having had a winter to allow fine particles to settle to the bottom. I like the contrast between the color of the water and that of the sky. It's real. And the jet aircraft exhaust trail - what more could you ask for?

How and why: Love tracks of all kinds, love reflections... Got close to the water to allow the reflections to take as much part as the sky. A central composition and a symmetrical result seemed to emphasize the scene. A circular polarizing filter made sure I got the most of the reflections.

Math and I have never been close friends. I remember having this emphasized when I was in junior high and encountered my first algebra class taught by a fellow who had the bedside manner of an irritable Doc Adams in Gunsmoke.

After he had tried to explain to me what an algebraic formula was for the tenth time, he uttered words that I could understand when he said, “I don’t think math will play a big part in your future.”

He was right.

But I was able to learn a few basics. For example, unless things change dramatically between now and next March, I will have seen two Scarlet Tanagers in 80 years. Without using a calculator, I figured that if it takes me that long to observe my next two, I will be 160.

When I excitedly told my wife that, she gave me two words of encouragement: “Good luck.”

This bright specimen may start to migrate in a couple of weeks, although many of his kinfolk won’t leave until September.

They'd better eat well in the meantime, as they have a 3,000-mile trip ahead of them, as they aim toward arriving in the Amazon Basin in South America a week or so before Thanksgiving.

This monochrome photograph showcases a collection of seashells arranged artistically against a dark background. The black and white tones emphasize the textures and patterns of the shells, highlighting their spiraling forms and the intricate lines that trace the growth of each shell.

The shells vary in size and shape, with some featuring elongated spires and others displaying more rounded, compact forms. Their placement in the composition seems intentional, creating a balance between the various shapes and directing the eye across the image. The play of light and shadow is masterfully captured, with the light source coming from the side, casting deep shadows and enhancing the three-dimensional quality of the shells.

The choice of black and white photography strips away the distraction of color, allowing the viewer to focus on the forms, lines, and textures that make each shell unique. The arrangement evokes a sense of natural symmetry and beauty, often found in objects sculpted by the sea. The overall effect is one of elegance and quiet beauty, inviting reflection on the wonders of the natural world.
