This photo captures the enchanting female Mountain Velvetbreast (Lafresnaya lafresnayi), perched delicately on a dew-covered fern in the Cañon del Combeima, Tolima, Colombia. The Mountain Velvetbreast, known for its unique long decurved bill and distinctive white tail spots, thrives in high elevation cloud forests. I aimed to emphasize the iridescent green plumage against the lush, verdant background, utilizing the soft morning light to enhance the bird's natural beauty.

From a technical perspective, achieving the perfect focus on this tiny, active subject was a challenge, especially with the fine mist adding to the ethereal atmosphere. Using a fast shutter speed and a wide aperture helped capture the intricate details of the bird and the texture of the fern. This image is a testament to the patience and dedication required in wildlife photography, offering a glimpse into the delicate balance of nature in one of Colombia's most biodiverse regions.

This digitally painted watercolor scene depicts a picturesque street in Taormina, Italy. The focus is on charming, Mediterranean-style buildings with warm ochre and beige tones, complemented by balconies and wooden shutters. The street-level atmosphere is lively, with a restaurant and bar where people are seated, enjoying their meals under outdoor awnings.

The foreground shows pedestrians in colorful clothing, adding life and movement to the scene. On the right side, stairs lead up to a pharmacy with its arched doorway, creating a sense of depth. The background is dominated by moody, dramatic clouds that contrast with the bright and cozy architecture, emphasizing the quaint yet dynamic charm of this small Italian town.

This is a re-edit of a misty forest picture. There is often a rainbow of colors hidden within a misty or foggy back-lit photo. Increasing the saturation and contrast can emphasize this rainbow color shift. This romanticized interpretation may not be to everyone's taste. In this case, I liked how the colors emphasized the depth, layers and detail of this forest view.

This stunning capture showcases an ocelot in its natural habitat at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. The wild feline's intricate coat pattern of rosettes and spots is on full display as it rests on the sun-baked earth. Dappled sunlight filtering through overhead branches creates a play of light and shadow, emphasizing the ocelot's alert posture and keen gaze. The arid landscape, complete with weathered wood and sandy soil, perfectly frames this beautiful creature, offering a glimpse into the diverse wildlife of the Sonoran Desert ecosystem. This image serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of conservation efforts to protect these magnificent animals and their habitats.

The Gergeti Trinity Church, located in Georgia, is situated on a mountain top near the village of Gergeti, near Stepantsminda Kazbegi in the Caucasus region, at an altitude of about 2,170 metres. The first light of dawn in the foreground of the photo enhances the mystical character of the location, while the snow-capped peaks and the dark silhouettes of the church emphasize the dramatic atmosphere of the landscape. This area is popular with hikers and photographers for its breathtaking views and historical value. The impressive snow-capped peaks of Mount Kazbek in the background are illuminated by the golden glow of the rising sun. The Georgian Orthodox church was built in the 14th century and is a beautiful example of medieval Georgian architecture. The church is an important national symbol of Georgia and attracts many pilgrims and tourists every year. Behind the Gergeti Trinity Church lies Kazbek (in Georgian: მყინვარწვერი, Mkinvartsveri), with an altitude of 5,054 meters one of the highest and most famous mountains in Georgia and the Greater Caucasus. Although the mountain is hidden in this photo, Kazbek is known for its impressive presence and mythological significance. Kazbek is an extinct stratovolcano. The name Mkinvartsveri means the Icy Peak in Georgian. The mountain is popular among mountaineers and adventurers. The standard route for the ascent usually starts from Stepantsminda, with the Gergeti Trinity Church serving as the starting point. Kazbek is often covered in snow and ice, which adds to the spectacular and mysterious appearance of the region. On clear days, the summit offers beautiful panoramic views of the Caucasus.

Gergeti Trinity Church is a 14th-century church in Georgia, located at an altitude of 2,170 meters near the village of Gergeti. It is located near Stepantsminda (Kazbegi), overlooking the majestic Mount Kazbek in the Caucasus. The church is an important symbol of Georgia. The cross at in front of the church is an important religious symbol and marks the spiritual significance of this site. Often erected as a memorial or pilgrimage cross, it emphasizes the connection between the Georgian Orthodox faith and the stunning natural surroundings of the Caucasus. The cross symbolizes protection and blessings for travelers who make the trek to the church. Many visitors and pilgrims experience a sense of peace and inspiration at the cross, especially due to its serene and secluded location. The views from this site are breathtaking, and the cross is a powerful visual element that enhances the spiritual atmosphere.

...

La Bourboule, July 14, 2014. We are a Monday.

The entry into a bowl, a hollow green nest.

Obsolete immediately.

First sidewalks and first villas beginning of last century.

Everything seems to have stopped at the time of the 1st Paid Leave.

Remain buildings framing prestigious past,

shops that looks outdated.

But a charm takes you as a sly compassion.

One becomes dazed.

Suspended, we hesitate.

Some memories of your childhood come to the surface.

By treating this series, I asked myself the following question:

Should I emphasize this feeling worn past, as the abandonment of men, or,

flourish pleasant moment felt locally.

I have decided.

Then I ventured to the end, to revive its colors "past" too!

I liked the contrast between the young small green leaves and the old dried branches together with the light emphasizing the new life.

In photographing this contemporary building, I wanted to isolate and emphasize the sensual curvature of its metallic facade against the dark backdrop. By choosing a low angle and tight framing, my intention was to transform this architectural element into something more abstract and sculptural rather than simply documenting the building as a whole. The black and white treatment was essential to my vision – it strips away the distraction of color and highlights the interplay of light across the panels' surfaces and edges.

I was particularly drawn to the repetitive pattern of the metal panels and how they follow the organic curve of the structure, creating a rhythm of light and shadow. Some panels feature perforations that add subtle texture variations to the otherwise sleek surface. By composing the image with the curve dominating the frame against the deep black background, I aimed to create a sense of scale that feels simultaneously massive and intimate.

This photograph represents my ongoing fascination with how modern architecture can create forms that seem to defy conventional structural expectations – appearing both solid and fluid at the same time. I wanted the viewer to experience the tactile quality of this facade and appreciate the precision engineering behind such seemingly effortless curves.

Like many other monuments in Paris, also the Sacré Coeur Basilica was very crowdy already at 8 in the morning. I used log exposure to avoid the people in the picture emphasizing the geometries of this perspective.

More macro work today, the 365 theme this week has been colour and color, this is my first contribution to the theme. I tried to get the lighting just so to emphasize the texture of the chalk. I swear I learn something new every time I work on shooting and editing my images.

On a personal note, I am tooting my own horn but it has nothing to do with my 365 project. I have now signed into MyfitnessPal 500 days in a row! Getting into a routine has helped me with my physical and mental health.

The previous day, a local man explained to me a perfect location for enjoy the photograph of this beautiful land.

I consulted the parameters that night and everything was correct to travel there.

The truth is that I was impressed to get to that place, I put on my waders running to get me asap and do not lose the time.

The sun had not yet risen, the water reached my waist, good temperature, soft wind, a lot of clouds and fog surrounding the horizon, made the conditions were the best.

Many photos I've seen of this place is that in photoshop blur the horizon line with the clone tool, but there was fog and with long exposure, completely erased.

It seemed that I was doing a photo shoot in the same heaven.

I think for many more times to return to this place, I can never find anything so perfect.

This is the photo shoot I most enjoyed in recent years, have a set of at least seven impressive images.

On the technical side, say that I only used a neutral gradient three steps filter.

I hope you like it. Have a nice Thursday. :)

This image shows the famous Golden Pavilion, or Kinkaku-ji, located in Kyoto, Japan. The temple’s exterior is covered in brilliant gold leaf, and it sits peacefully beside a reflective pond, surrounded by meticulously manicured trees and traditional Japanese gardens. The architecture is a striking example of Muromachi period design, characterized by harmony with nature, elegance, and a balanced blend of simplicity and grandeur. The top two floors of the pavilion are entirely gilded, and a golden phoenix perches atop the roof, symbolizing rebirth and immortality.

Historically, Kinkaku-ji was originally built in the 14th century as a retirement villa for the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, and later converted into a Zen Buddhist temple. The current structure is a post-war reconstruction from 1955, as the original was tragically burned down in 1950. Despite this, Kinkaku-ji remains one of Japan's most iconic and visited landmarks, representing not only Kyoto's rich feudal history but also the resilience of Japanese cultural preservation.

Geographically, Kyoto is nestled in a valley surrounded by mountains in the Kansai region of Japan. Once the imperial capital for over a millennium, the city is now a major cultural hub known for its temples, shrines, traditional tea houses, and seasonal beauty—especially during cherry blossom season and autumn foliage. Kyoto's climate, with its distinct seasons, enhances the scenic splendor of landmarks like Kinkaku-ji, making them feel different and magical in each part of the year.

Culturally and gastronomically, Kyoto is revered for its refined and elegant cuisine, known as kaiseki. This multi-course meal emphasizes seasonal ingredients and artistic presentation. Visitors to the area can also enjoy specialties such as yudofu (boiled tofu), matcha (green tea) from nearby Uji, and traditional sweets called wagashi. Kyoto’s food scene harmonizes beautifully with its temples and gardens, offering not just nourishment but a deep sensory connection to the land and its long-standing traditions.

From the foot of the Spanish Steps, I raised my iPhone toward Trinità dei Monti, wanting to catch that precise moment when the marble walls glowed warm and the sky framed the towers in vivid blue. In shooting this, I was chasing two things: the sense of elevation (you feel you’re climbing, even from below) and a quiet contrast — the aged stone against the pure, deep summer sky.

I angled low to emphasize scale, to let the viewer feel the weight of those centuries in stone. And yes — a little irony: standing there in my modern clothes, snapping pictures with a phone, trying to immortalize what generations before me painted or sketched.

One of my favorite spots of my trip to Iceland was the cliffs at Dyrholaey (see also my previous post). Every weather condition gives you a certain atmosphere and provides you several options to make nice shots. This one is my favorite of this spot. In the morning it was rainy and cold emphasizing the black rocks, cliffs and sand, but during sunset I was grabbed by the way the how golden light and spray of the sea gave these cliffs a more mystical atmosphere. I immediately knew that I had to go more into the details and while I was setting up for the best composition some people came to the beach. Although these people gave some nice scale to emphasize the magnitude of the cliffs from hindsight they were very lucky!

I just adore these colours and how well this picture has come out. Hope you like it too.

Artist Statement:

This painting captures a moment suspended between stillness and motion, where nature's forces meet the quiet resilience of human intervention. The floodwater, rendered in vibrant aquamarine, stretches up to a fence that divides two worlds: the ephemeral softness of a golden beige snowfield and the chaotic beauty of nature’s overflow. Flotsam clings to the fence, a symbol of nature’s unpredictability, while partial reflections in the water hint at the delicate balance between earth and sky.

The loose, expressive brushstrokes lend a softness to the composition, emphasizing the fluidity and transience of the scene. The fence, both a literal and metaphorical boundary, offers a sense of perspective, grounding the viewer amidst the vivid yet subtle interplay of colours. Strong, vibrant hues contrast with the gentle nuances of the snowfield, evoking both a sense of serenity and unease. Through this abstraction, I aim to explore the delicate relationship between control and chaos, beauty and destruction, and the quiet persistence of the natural world.

This impressionist painting beautifully captures the charm of a street scene in Siena, Italy. The composition emphasizes the tall, warm-toned buildings, which exude a sense of history and character. The earthy reds and ochres of the brickwork contrast with the softer stone tones of the neighboring structures, creating a harmonious interplay of textures and colors. The narrow street is slightly curved, drawing the viewer’s eye deeper into the image, as if inviting them to explore.

The tree in the middle ground, with its sparse yet vivid green foliage, serves as a gentle focal point amidst the architectural forms. Its delicate presence adds life and movement to the scene, softening the angularity of the buildings. The soft, diffused light, typical of the impressionist style, imbues the scene with a tranquil and nostalgic atmosphere, as if time has momentarily slowed down. The brushstrokes are dynamic and layered, giving the painting a textured, almost tactile quality.

In the foreground, two figures walk together, adding a touch of humanity to the quiet street. One wears a bright red coat, creating a striking contrast against the muted tones of the surroundings, while the other’s darker attire blends more subtly with the scene. Their inclusion not only adds depth and perspective but also evokes a sense of intimacy and everyday life in this historic setting. The painting captures both the grandeur of Siena’s architectural legacy and the quiet, poetic moments of its streets.

Another shot from the Bjarke Ingels Group Serpentine Pavilion, this time the shot emphasizes the repetitive nature of the fibreglass boxes that make the structure.

From Wikipedia : "Every year since 2000 the Serpentine Gallery has commissioned a temporary summer pavilion by a leading architect. The series presents the work of an international architect or design team who has not completed a building in England at the time of the Gallery’s invitation. Each Pavilion is completed within six months and is situated on the Gallery’s lawn for three months for the public to explore. I found this image of a Venice canal on Pixabay, and have used several digital imaging software programs to provide a painterly effect. Specifically, I used Photomatix HDR and Topaz Studio 2 Impression to give the photo a more atmospheric feeling, emphasizing the lights coming on as the sky in the background begins to darken at twilight.

Actually this is a look-up shot at the atrium of Tokyo Telecom Center Building which is often used as a shooting place for Japanese TV drama and movie. Top and bottom of the photo are reversed because complicated structure is more emphasized in black and white.

And my imagination becomes too rich while taking pictures in the deserted building at night.

When repair is necessary car goes to the garage and ship goes to the dockyard. In that case, where does our Spaceship Earth go? Endless war and conflict, destruction of the environment, mindless dissipation of natural resources and so on. Isn't it in need of the dockyard to fix everything at once?

The middle of nowhere is fully emphasized here as AZER 4010 and 4006 grind upgrade with the first cut of cars from Clifton. With the town of Morenci and the Freeport McMoRan copper mine dwarfed in the background, the enormity of the topography brings everything into perspective as to how small things really are out here. If you expand the photo you can see the FMI's yard with cars sitting in it.

Dedicated to Paul B0udreau, friend and confrere.

Moving slightly on from Black & White but keeping almost to a monochrome treatment, this small series works to emphasize the compositional or structural aspect of my 'technique'. I love rich, saturated colour but it takes some discipline for me to allow the richness of monochrome or pure Black & White to come to the fore.

Yet, is what it is that fears the loss actually the self? What lies beneath or behind the maps that carries on without them? Music Link - "Strange and Unproductive Thinking", David Lynch, from his album "Crazy Clown Time". Yes, the cult film maker/artist/TV series creator also makes music. As would be expected by those familiar with his films, the music is strange and at times creepily unsettling. This song though goes deeper into the Lynch psyche revealing Lynch's thoughts on the nature of mind and reality, couched in contrasting lights and darks of surrealistic metaphor and outright philosophical speculation. "Strange and Unproductive Thinking" is either a marathon of random neuron firings or a brillantly disguised manifesto of consciousness. Repeated listenings are required as one go just doesn't seem to be enough to capture the fullness of it. Have fun! :-)

Bear with me, but the back info is Super fascinating.! and long, but worth it!. The several color combinations were to emphasize the lowness of the front wheel drive cars.

The Ruxton was a front-wheel drive automobile produced by the New Era Motors Company of New York, during 1929 and 1930. The car was the brainchild of William Muller, while employed in the engineering department of the Budd Body Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Muller convinced his employer to invest in developing a front wheel drive prototype automobile. Budd would then sell the rights to the car to an automotive company which would contract with Budd for the body work. While Muller designed the drive train, Joseph Ledwinka designed the body for the car and the project was completed in 1928, and the engines were provided by Continental Motors, Inc. In an era when the American automobile had an average height of 6 feet (1,800 mm) from the ground to the level plane of the roof, Muller’s car was only 53 inches (1,300 mm) high, a feat accomplished by eliminating the drive shaft to the rear wheels. Ledwinka accentuated the lowness to ground through the elimination of the running boards.

Instead of attracting an automotive producer, Muller’s concept car attracted the attention of Archie Andrews, a member of Budd’s Board who also sat on the Board of Hupp Motor Car Company. Andrews recognized the possibilities of producing the car and made it possible for Muller and Budd to present the idea to Hupp.

When Hupp Motor Car Company passed on the car, Andrews took on the project himself, and with Muller formed New Era Motors which would market the car. Still, Andrews lacked an ability to build the car, and hoped-for support from Peerless, Gardner, and Marmon failed to materialize.

In November 1929, Moon Motors of St. Louis, Missouri, reached an agreement to build the car, which Andrews had by then named the Ruxton, after William V.C. Ruxton, an investor Andrews hoped would support the project; Ruxton did not support the project, but it bore his name whether he wanted it to or not. Ultimately, Ruxton sued Andrews simply for the purpose of stating that he in no way supported Andrews or the car itself.[1]

Unhappy with Moon's attention to the project, Andrews attempted to take over controlling interest in the company by buying up its stock. Ultimately, Andrews assumed control of the moribund company, much to the chagrin of its President C.W. Burst, who barricaded himself in the company headquarters in protest.

Despite lawsuits and counter suits, the Ruxton went into regular production in June 1930.

When Ruxton finally went on sale, some models sported Joseph Urban color schemes designed to lengthen the appearance of the car through broad bands of white intermixed with vivid colors such as blue, lavender, and navy blue . Many, but not all, Ruxtons featured the cat-like Woodlite headlights; while sleek, their performance paled in comparison to normal headlights. Most Ruxton owners soon learned that they either drove their cars during the daylight, or had them retrofitted with normal headlights or auxiliary driving lights.

Andrews also entered into a deal with Kissel of Hartford, Wisconsin, to build the transmissions and drive lines. With Moon failing, Andrews turned to Kissel to build the cars, and while the project appeared to be on course, again Andrews grew impatient and started buying Kissel stock in preparation for another take over. Unlike Moon, which tried to fight off Andrews, the Kissel Brothers rebelled by filing for receivership in November 1930, and production of the Ruxton came to an abrupt end less than four months after it was introduced.

After the Ruxton debacle, Andrews set his sights on rescuing Hupp, whether it wanted to be rescued or not. While he was able to seize control of the company, his tenure was short and Andrews was removed by angry shareholders. He died in 1938. With a total production of some 96[2] vehicles, the Ruxton is recognized as a Classic Car by the Classic Car Club of America.

The unique site demands a unique architectural response, one respectful of the Monument and its rich locale. As part of our redevelopment, we’ve reshaped the site’s building lines to create an improved Monument Yard, enlarging the public realm and enhancing the setting of the Monument at once.

The east, west and north chequerboard facades are made of Jura stone and bronze anodised aluminium. Altogether the building has only 45% glazing, contributing to its BREEAM 'Excellent' rating.

Each of the 69 twisting fins is made up of 9 individual pieces for improved buildability. Overall there are four different types assembled in a pattern that creates a fluid but apparently randomised surface."

I should emphasize, not really Crows but Grackles.

This doorway is a stunning example of Italian Renaissance architecture in the historic city of Siena. The entrance features a grand arched frame made of intricately carved white stone that contrasts beautifully with the warm tones of the surrounding brickwork. The alternating blocks of stone around the arch, known as rustication, create a sense of depth and solidity, highlighting the craftsmanship of the period. Above the arch, a delicate metal grate adds a layer of security and aesthetic charm, maintaining balance with the robust design below.

The double wooden doors are another striking feature of this facade. Their natural texture, combined with visible signs of aging and wear, tells a story of countless years of use and historical significance. The warm, reddish-brown hue of the wood complements the terracotta tones of the brick, creating a harmonious color palette. Small metal details, such as the handle and keyhole, add functional yet decorative touches that align with the overall timeless design.

The surrounding brickwork serves as a textured backdrop, lending warmth and authenticity to the facade. The rectangular stones framing the arch suggest a blend of strength and elegance, emphasizing the doorway's prominence. This blend of materials and architectural elements speaks to Siena's rich cultural heritage, making this doorway not only an entrance but also a piece of history preserved within the city's walls.

The way

We experience

An iconic example of mid-century modern telecommunications architecture, stands as a striking testament to functionalist design. Rising 279.2 meters into the sky, its sleek, cylindrical form is punctuated by a series of observation decks and antenna platforms, creating a rhythmic interplay of mass and void.

The tower, clean and unadorned, emphasizes its sculptural purity, while the stacked horizontal elements provide a dynamic contrast to its otherwise monolithic verticality. This interplay of geometric forms evokes a sense of engineered elegance, where function dictates aesthetics with an almost minimalist restraint.

Photographed in isolation, the Heinrich-Hertz-Turm becomes an abstraction of itself lines and curves distilled to their essence. The structure’s stark contrast against the sky enhances its imposing presence, transforming it into a solitary beacon of modernity. This is an architecture of utility elevated to an art form, where simplicity and precision converge to create an enduring visual impact.

Slightly overexposed to emphasize the watercolour mood.
