This is a redux of a previous post from 04.10.2015 “Barnegat Light”

Just doing a few updates. I used the Pixelmator App tools to emphasize some intricate textures and do some lightening/darkening. The old post is still intact. Thanks to so many friends who have stuck with me all this time that I have been on Flickr.

Thanks always for your comments, faves and Group invites !

Bystranda (The City Beach) is a Blue Flag beach in the southeastern part of the downtown of the city of Kristiansand in Agder county, Norway. It is located just east of the mouth of the river Otra.

The shallow sandy beach by the Kristiansand Boardwalk consists of fine filled sand.

By Bystranda there are seating areas, bathrobes stairs, sand volleyball court, skate ramp, playground, and restrooms. At the plant of the bathing beach was emphasized that it should be accessible to children and the disabled.

Bystranda is popular on hot summer days.

Close to Bystranda is the indoor water park Aquarama.[

The central element of the IG Metall building in Berlin is the light-flooded staircase that connects all floors. A generous spiral staircase with a diameter of almost 5 metres is a place of movement and communication in equal measure. All metal parts are made of brass and the balustrades emphasize the round shape of the staircase. The staircase can only be viewed and photographed from below, unfortunately climbing up is not permitted. The IG Metall building has been a listed building since 1971.

I mostly emphasized the finer details in this photograph. Please take a closer look if you would like!

In this black and white photograph taken on the hill Perun, high above the picturesque village of Gornja Podstrana, a breathtaking panoramic view unfolds before your eyes. The vantage point offers a commanding perspective, showcasing the magnificent city of Split, nestled alongside the sparkling waters of the Adriatic Sea. As your gaze sweeps across the landscape, the neighboring towns of Stobreč and Podstrana reveal themselves, adding charm to the already stunning scene.

The absence of color in this monochromatic composition enhances the timeless beauty of the view, emphasizing the intricate play of light and shadows that dance upon the landscape. In the distance, the islands of Šolta, Drvenik Veli and Čiovo emerge from the glistening sea, adding a touch of enchantment to the horizon.

This photo captures the essence of tranquility and grandeur, inviting you to immerse yourself in the serenity of the hill Perun while marveling at the interconnectedness of nature and human settlements. It serves as a reminder of the awe-inspiring beauty that can be found in the world, even in the simplest of moments, and encourages a pause to appreciate the remarkable landscapes that surround us.

Cabot Tower a historical landmark located on Signal Hill a National Historic site in the City of St. John's on the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland and Labrador Canada

Cabot Tower is a tower in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, situated on Signal Hill. Construction of the tower began in 1898 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of John Cabot's discovery of Newfoundland, and Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee.

In 1901, Guglielmo Marconi received the first trans-Atlantic wireless message at a position near the tower, the letter "S" in Morse Code sent from Poldhu, Cornwall, United Kingdom. Cabot Tower is now the centre of the Signal Hill National Historic Site of Canada,] with walking trails and an interpretation centre.

Located at the highest point of Signal Hill, overlooking the city and the ocean, Cabot Tower is an example of late-Gothic Revival style. Built of irregularly coursed red sandstone, it is composed of a two-story, 30 foot, square structure with a three-story, 50 foot octagonal tower that stands on the southeast corner of the building. The corners are buttressed at the first floor level and further emphasized through the use of heavier blocks of stone. On the main body of the building, at the top of the second storey level, is a line of repeating pattern like an exaggerated dentil row or inverted crenelations. The attached tower, which houses the main entrance, is very plain with a double string course marking the divisions between second and third storeys and heavy corbel tables marking the eight corners of the turret at the flared upper level. The windows on both the corner turret and the body of the tower proper are rectangular and set under heavy stone lintels.

The architect of Cabot Tower, William Howe Greene, was a prominent St. John's architect and an associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects. Wikipedia

detail from the Chain Bridge in Budapest, Hungary (love lock chained to one of the light bulbs that run along the top chains and the edges of the pavements to emphasize the shape of the bridge's ironwork)

"The linear Wellenburger Allee is one of the most imposing avenues of linden trees in the Bavarian-Swabian region. It is a two-kilometer long section of Wellenburger Straße in the south of the Augsburg city area. The avenue begins at the bridge over the Wertach River in the Göggingen district of Augsburg and leads in a straight line to Wellenburg Castle. In this way, the more than 350 winter lime trees form a visual axis and emphasize the importance of the castle.

The first trees of the avenue were planted in 1840. Between 1880 and 1920, further new plantings were finally made. Thereafter, when necessary, old or diseased trees were regularly replaced by new trees. The city of Augsburg declared the Wellenburger Allee a protected landscape feature by ordinance in November 1975."

Kinkaku-ji "Temple of the Golden Pavilion"), officially named Rokuon-ji, lit. "Deer Garden Temple"), is a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan.

The garden complex is an excellent example of Muromachi period garden design. The Muromachi period is considered to be a classical age of Japanese garden design. The correlation between buildings and its settings were greatly emphasized during this period. It was a way to integrate the structure within the landscape in an artistic way. The garden designs were characterized by a reduction in scale, a more central purpose, and a distinct setting.

A minimalistic approach was brought to the garden design, by recreating larger landscapes in a smaller scale around a structure.

It is designated as a National Special Historic Site and a National Special Landscape, and it is one of 17 locations comprising the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto World Heritage Site. It is also one of the most popular buildings in Japan, attracting a large number of visitors annually.

Each winter I try to drive past this old vacant garage on a cold, blustery winter day as its lonesomeness is emphasized. It is a unique time in life when we reach an age when many of our peers begin to leave this planet. Our once large circle of family, friends and acquaintances begins slowly to dwindle and then accelerates with every passing year. The isolation that faces those whose partners have departed becomes one of life's greatest challenges.

I really wanted to emphasize the very strong colours.

A close view emphasizes the colourful eye ring, bill, and legs of this Semipalmated Plover. This bird has obtained food on Wickaninnish Beach in Pacific Rim National Park on the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

This photo was taken quite awhile after sunset. Consequently it was quite noisy and what you might call "soft." Traditional bird photography emphasize sharpness and clarity.

However, the composition is seldom complex or very interesting. In the case of warblers on flowering branches at least the flowers are a secondary point of interest. I think it is the lack of compositional interest that limits the general appreciation of bird photography. People who don't have a particular interest in birds are not big fans.

The same can't be said of fine art bird paintings. There is one painting by a UK painter of a Peregrine Falcon hitting a duck in the sky from a perspective above the scene. There is the duck falling(a splay of feathers), the other ducks, the falcon and the scenery below. Now that is interesting to study.

This photograph communicates a number of things. One is the simple contrast of form and color to be found among the wading species of the marsh. Another is that some species search the same shallows for different prey. They are non-competitive. Also the movement in opposite directions conveys the sense of dynamic nature and the choreography of marsh life.

Any way this is a rationale for taking the time to process a less than high resolution photo. I did narrow the aperture to get the 3 birds generally in focus.

This is a re-processing of www.flickr.com/photos/sean_x_liu/29669505507/in/dateposted/. Used selective coloring to emphasize the green lake and the red jacket to anchor the right corner.

A group of people enjoying a hot air balloon ride from a perspective below the basket. The image highlights the experience of aerial travel and the human element of adventure and sightseeing.

The primary subject is a hot air balloon basket filled with passengers. The people are casually dressed and appear to be tourists or adventurers, with several individuals waving or using their phones to take photos. The wicker basket, a traditional element of hot air balloons, is a prominent feature.

The photo is taken from a low angle, looking up at the balloon. This perspective emphasizes the scale and height of the balloon, making the passengers and basket appear to be suspended high in the sky. The balloon's dark fabric and the basket's texture stand out against the clear blue background.

The lighting is bright and natural in a clear day ideal for flying. The overall mood is one of excitement and joy, captured by the passengers' expressions and gestures. The image evokes a sense of freedom and the unique experience of viewing the world from above.

The image is sharp, with good focus on the basket and its occupants, while the sky provides a simple, uncluttered background that makes the subject stand out. The clarity of the image is consistent with modern photography techniques that allow for clear shots from a distance.

The teal compensates for its size with its appearance. There is seasonal dimorphism in males. From late autumn to June, their head and upper part of the neck take on a chestnut color. The side of the head along with the eye are surrounded by a dark green shiny band, which is emphasized by a yellow-white line running from the base of the beak (hence many graphic artists associate the word "teal" with color - this name is used to describe a deep, sea blue shade). The cream breast is speckled with brown spots. Blackish, marbled patterns on the sides and back resemble streaks of sand with a chiaroscuro effect. The bird's belly is whitish, and the undertail is yellowish with a black border. Females, juveniles, and males outside the mating season are very similar to each other. Their coloration is camouflaging, but not trivial, covered with a pattern characteristic of many swimming ducks (as opposed to diving ducks): a green mirror laughs at us from the wing.

The teal is a migratory bird; migrations take place in March and April and in October and November. It winters mainly in Western and Southern Europe, but also in western Poland.

For its habitat, it chooses shallow water reservoirs, also in forest areas. These are often densely overgrown ponds, oxbow lakes, ponds and lakes surrounded by reeds, as well as swamps and peat bogs. In winter, teal can also be found on sea coasts near the intertidal zones, as well as on slightly saline water reservoirs, where it looks for tasty mussels.

This is the last shot from my summer vacation in Sweden 2014. I really enjoyed taking pictures knowing the potential of the place and in fact so many more pictures I wanted to take. In any case I had the chance to practice more on the features of the camera and a bit on long exposure which I enjoyed a lot. Hope to find more situations for LE here in Italy too and not necessarily on vacation trips but that's not so easy due to luck of time. Meanwhile "bokeh" has been a constant word in my head. Despite desiring a new lens which emphasize this situation I had a chance to practice a bit on that with my one and only companion kit standard lens smc PENTAX-DA 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL. Been out in the woods in search of autumn vibe these last months (some saturdays/sundays available) and next serie is about that. Forest, trees, autumn, Monti Simbruini.... sound familiar right?

The Volhynian, massacres, were anti-Polish genocidal ethnic cleansings conducted by Ukrainian nationalists.

The massacres took place within Poland’s borders as of the outbreak of WWII, and not only in Volhynia, but also in other areas with a mixed Polish-Ukrainian population, especially the Lvov, Tarnopol, and Stanisławów voivodeships (that is, in Eastern Galicia), as well as in some voivodeships bordering on Volhynia (the western part of the Lublin Voivodeship and the northern part of the Polesie Voivodeship. The time frame of these massacres was 1943-1945. The perpetrators were the Organization

of Ukrainian Nationalists-Bandera faction (OUN-B) and its military wing,

called the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA).

Their documents show that the planned extermination of the Polish population was called an “anti-Polish operation.”

Criminal Investigations

Genocide is a legal category. The Volhynian massacres have all the traits of genocide listed in the 1948

UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, which defines genocide

as an act “committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group,

as such.” In Polish academia the Volhynian massacres are referred to as genocidal ethnic cleansings,

the Volhynian (or Volhynian-Galician) slaughter, or, in legal terminology, the crime of genocide.

Polish historians are emphasizing that the Volhynian bloodbath is the uncleared crime of genocide still, and praise of Stepan Bandera and members murderous party of OUN-UPA by the current Ukrainian authorities.

Ruben’s House in Anwerp

Peter Paul Rubens, the famous painter of 16th-17th century, was …Belgian!! A Flemish Belgian, belonging to the Belgian Baroque tradition in painting! His unique and immensely popular Baroque style emphasized movement, colour, and sensuality, which followed the immediate, dramatic artistic style promoted in the Counter-Reformation. In his times he was a Dutch from the Southern Netherlands, living in Antwerp ! Rubens was a painter producing altarpieces, portraits, landscapes, and history paintings of mythological and allegorical subjects. He was also a prolific designer of cartoons for the Flemish tapestry workshops and of front pieces for the publishers in Antwerp.

This talented man, was a great Artist in many fields, apart from his painting talent!! He was also a very educated , charismatic scholar and diplomat, and had a great talent in decoration and architecture, which he proved by cooperating with great decorators and architects of his times, in order to create his beautiful palace home in Antwerp/Anvers of our days!! You can follow and see digitally the beauty of this exquisite old palace house, here:

I took a different approach today. The shallow DOF is emphasized and the lighting is more chiaroscuro ...

A striking landscape photograph capturing the rugged peaks of Sinai mountains during sunset.

The primary subjects are the two prominent, craggy mountain peaks that dominate the frame, filling the lower two-thirds of the image. The foreground is composed of the dark, textured slopes, providing depth.

The horizon line is positioned relatively low, emphasizing the vastness of the sky and the height of the mountains. The two main peaks create a balanced, symmetrical composition.

The lighting is soft and diffused, characteristic of the "golden hour" around sunset. The light source is likely just below or above the horizon, casting a warm glow on the clouds and creating deep shadows on the mountain faces.

A vibrant and contrasting color palette is used. The sky features soft pinks and purples in the clouds, contrasting beautifully with the cool, desaturated purplish-gray tones of the mountains.

The image highlights the rough, rocky texture of the mountains, which provides a strong tactile element against the smooth appearance of the sky.

The combination of soft light, dramatic peaks, and ethereal colors creates a serene, majestic, and awe-inspiring mood.

A conceptual image of daisies on the window sill. I hoped to emphasize each individual petal and how the morning light displays the shadows
