Taken against the sky in Mexico emphasizing the transparency and texture/patterns of leaf and flower....whoa, the upload emphasized some highlights beyond what I had on my computer....oh well, I have had this problem before, and re-uploading did not fix it. Another day is soon to close for the California Northern. It's been a long day for these guys, with one crew spending the morning unloading the last cut of loads, and the outbound crew showing up early in the afternoon. After spending a couple hours getting the train ready for departure, it was time to go.

The train was originating in Artois, bound for the UP interchange at Davis. The crew this day had a much shorter trip than usual, as it being a gypsum meant there were no cars to set out or pick up. The crew did run into a few problems along the way, leaving Artois they had to run long hood forward at restricted speeds, the original lead motor had no radios, therefore having to pick up a new lead unit, several cars running the gates in front of them, which they got very close to hitting at least one, and a slow order at Yolo. By the time the train reached Davis blue hour would have just passed.

At Yolo, the train approaches the single span truss over Cache Creek. Going only 10 mph, I decided to shoot the train as it approached the bridge, getting the headlights to emphasize the slight grade approaching the creek. The sun was soon to drop below the horizon, and the sky can be seen slowly turning into a vibrant purple. This would be my last shot of the train before heading home.

Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious... Michael Stipe

If you had an expensive car in the 30s, and wanted to also flaunt your good taste, you might approach France's premier glass sculptor Lalique, and choose a mascot for your radiator that emphasizes both your wealth and taste. If you also wanted to take it to the next level, you would have it wired so that you can light it internally, at night. Most place Chrysis, the high priest of Hera's Temple in Argos, Greese, as the most striking of Laliques creations.

Though you can still purchase some of his 30s designs today, to purchase a genuine mascot with provenance from a....oh....Hispano Suiza limo, it would cost you what you paid for your last car.

Chrysis was one of the last of the high priestess' from the Temple of Hera, the Sister and Wife of Zeus (no cracks now) and the Mother of the Gods of Mt. Olympus. Argos was in the Peloponnese peninsula not too far from Sparta. Further backstory would fill the library....but it is wonderfully interesting. This is a variation on an image I posted several years ago.

The Color Grading tool in Lightroom (Color Balance in Photoshop) lets me emphasize the way the scene felt without worrying too much about what it actually looked like. I remember the sunrise as much warmer and the blues of the water much deeper than they are in my image.

Rotterdam Centraal Station handles 110,000 passengers daily. By the turn of the century, the old building had become very dilapidated, and it became clear that a new one was needed. This project required a nine-year collaboration between Benthem Crouwel Architects, MVSA Meyer en Van Schooten Architects, and West 8 Urban Design & Landscape Architecture.

Several symbolic elements from the original station designed by Sybold van Ravesteyn were preserved and integrated into the project, such as the clock and the large letters on the facade. The interior, made entirely of wood and glass, offers a warm and welcoming cocoon, while the steel exterior cladding gives the building a majestic and grandiose appearance. The structure is airy thanks to the Y-shaped design of the pillars supporting the roof, which is partially covered with 130,000 photovoltaic cells capable of generating 320 megawatts of power per year! Largely transparent, the framework covers all the tracks over a length of 250 meters and floods the platforms with light.

To the south, the façade is distinguished by a large oblique wing that brings dynamism and modernism, further emphasizing its international aura. In the foreground, the esplanade is free of any obstacles and showcased as a vast urban void. The red stone already present inside extends onto the ground of this public square, to better merge the station and the city.

Beilen is a village that forms the heart of the municipality of Midden-Drenthe. The village burned down almost completely in the19th century and centuries after reconstruction it has become one of the places where you as a tourist have a perfect base to visit a number of interesting sights. For example, the impressive Westerbork camp, the Wildlands Zoo and the Drents Museum are highly recommended places to visit in the region. In the museum you can even see a very special gold treasure. These beautiful pieces of jewelry were found in Beilen in 1955 and date from Roman times. As a result, the museum attracts visitors from all over the world. It is possible that you will meet such a tourist somewhere on a bench in Beilen with a Beiler Kontje in hand. The beiler Kontje is also called Drents kontje and is a very special pastry that consists of peach, whipped cream and marzipan. It has even become one of the most famous delicacies in all of the province of Drenthe. The pastry gets its Dutch name from the shape it has. It looks like a certain body part. A number of well-known Dutch people were also born in Beilen, such as former musical star Janke Dekker. Just as Janke the poet Roel Reijnders saw his first light in the wonderfull village. The award winning Reijnders has meant a lot to writers and poets in Drenthe. He encouraged writers from Drenthe to also publish in Drenthe's own dialect. Finally, I would like to emphasize that a walk in Beilen will certainly do you good. You will then undoubtedly enjoy the beautiful picturesque landscape as shown in my photo.

I came across this wall with emphasized geometric lines and made of wood and I liked the shadow and the light playing harmoniously on this original wall.

I just waited for the final ingredient (people) to capture the scene. What I like most about this photo is certainly the light and the shadow that emphasize both the shapes of the wall and the people present on the scene.

Hope you enjoy this picture !

in March 8th, we commemorate the International Women's Day, in order to emphasize women's rights in the World.

Sadly, it seems that at least that in my country, Mexico, being a woman is now a dangerous entity. If a woman goes out at night with a man who has coronavirus, she has more risk of being abused than contract the coronavirus disease.

10 Women are killed every day in my Country, which is one of the saddest statistics ever written.

But which is more sad is that our "left-wing government" and our "progressist president" has shown its more rancid conservative shade and has turned its face away from the feminist movement. They have look down and underestimate the high rate of feminicide and female abuse, so now women have organized and have shown high power, and tomorrow, March 9th they have planned A National Female Strike

"(...) And nothing feels the same

Tonight

But something had to change

I'm not just someone else's girl

I am a woman of the world

I'm soaring, flying, riding high and free

And nothing's gonna get to me

I'm living life like it was meant to be

And nothing's gonna get to me"

The world-famous graffiti artist's OZMO latest mural in Liepāja

The mural " Siren, Wind, Sea and Freedom" emphasizes the importance of the sea in the daily life of the city, depicting it in the image of the Sea god Neptune, the seductive and captivating city, depicted in the image of a beautiful woman – a Siren, and the wind of Liepāja. In this work, too, OZMO has used his typical references to world-famous works of art. The image of Neptune is modelled from that one on the fountain of Neptune in Bologna, Italy, but the wind is symbolized by the Wind god Aiola, depicted in this shape at an ancient marble tab and used in the works of OZMO before. In turn, the woman’s head is decorated with three stars as those from the Latvian State Statue of Liberty, thus emphasizing the importance and role of Liepāja in the whole country.

“When creating my works, I always do research in advance and use different symbols. In this mural, the wind creates roaring sea waves, both united by the beautiful Latvian city – Liepāja, which is symbolized by a real-life girl, a singer seen on the social network Instagram,” says the author of the work OZMO. ” To create this more than 150 m2 large painting, it took 11 days, 217 colour cans, a tube of sunscreen, one bucket truck and many forthcoming people, who helped to implement this long-cherished idea,” says the author of the project idea, the “Red Sun Buffet Beach Bar” co-owner Mareks Alberts.

OZMO is visiting Liepāja within the project “Street Art Portraits in the Streets of Liepāja”. He began his creative career creating comics, but soon turned to writing and painting. In 2001, he entered the Florence Academy of Visual Arts in Milan, collaborating with the world’s largest art galleries. Shortly afterwards, under the nickname OZMO he became known for his impressive wall paintings. His works can be seen in Milan, London, Rome, Miami, Baltimore, Shanghai, Paris, Gdansk and many other cities around the world. More information about the artist is available here:

Sno Castle is a historic fortress located in the village of Sno, near Stepantsminda in the Kazbegi region of Georgia. Nestled in the impressive Caucasus Mountains, the castle is a symbol of the medieval architecture and history of the region. Sno Castle is estimated to have been built between the 16th and 17th centuries. It served as a defensive stronghold for the local nobility and was strategically positioned to guard the Sno Valley from raids by northern tribes and other threats. The architectural style reflects typical Georgian fortifications, with stone towers and thick defensive walls. The castle consists of a central tower also called koshki, surrounded by the remains of additional defensive structures. These towers were essential in the Caucasus and often served as residences, watchtowers and shelters during conflicts. From the castle, you have a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and valleys, which further emphasizes its strategic location. In addition to its military role, Sno Castle also has cultural and spiritual value. Nearby is the famous Stone Head of Sno, a large stone carving believed to represent a local deity or historical figure. This mysterious carving attracts both tourists and historians.

Sno Castle is a historical fortress located in the village of Sno, near Stepantsminda in the Kazbegi region of Georgia. Today, Sno Castle is a popular destination for tourists exploring the Kazbegi region. Its proximity to Mount Kazbek and the Gergeti Trinity Church makes it an ideal stopover for lovers of Georgian history and breathtaking landscapes.

Wisely, Step 10 does not emphasize a moral inventory, which becomes too self-absorbed and self-critical, but speaks instead of a “personal inventory.” In other words, just watch yourself objectively, calmly, and compassionately. You will be able to do this from your new viewing platform and perspective as a grounded child of God. “The Spirit will help us in our weakness” (Romans 8:26). From this most positive and dignified position, we can let go of, and even easily admit, our wrongs. We are being held so strongly and so deeply that we can stop holding onto, or defending, ourselves. God forever sees and loves Christ in us; it is only we who doubt our divine identity as children of God.

We now have an implanted position and power whereby we can see ourselves calmly and compassionately, without endless digging, labeling, judging, or the rancor that we usually have toward our own imperfection. Don’t judge, just look can be our motto— and now, with the very eyes of God. That will awaken consciousness, and then things will usually take care of themselves, with even the least bit of honesty and courage. A wonderful Indian Jesuit, Anthony de Mello (1931–1987), used to say, “Awareness, awareness, awareness!”…

… To be fully conscious would be to love everything, on some level and in some way—even our mistakes. To love is to fall into full consciousness, which is contemplative, non-dualistic, and includes everything—even “the last enemy to be destroyed, which is death itself” (1 Corinthians 15:26). That is why we must, absolutely must, love!

The Female Multicolored Tanager (Chlorochrysa nitidissima), photographed at La Minga Ecolodge near Cali, Colombia, is a striking representation of the vibrant biodiversity found in the Andean cloud forests. This delicate bird, with her emerald-green plumage, golden-yellow face, and soft blue undertones, perched gracefully on a slender branch amidst lush greenery. The diffused forest light illuminated her vibrant colors and intricate feather details while creating a soft, natural backdrop that emphasized her presence.

To capture this image, I used a Canon R5 paired with the RF 100-500mm lens at its maximum focal length of 500mm. A shutter speed of 1/500 second froze the tanager’s subtle movements, while ISO 800 ensured clarity and vibrancy in the low-light conditions of the dense forest. The combination of technical precision and patience was key to highlighting the beauty of this elusive species. Collaborating with local birding guide Asherita Viajera added depth to this experience, making it possible to observe and capture this stunning moment. This photograph reflects the importance of preserving such habitats and the species that thrive within them.

My land... My Honduras!

Greetings from you know where :D

Music and more images from my country here

The dazzling light of a boiling hot summer afternoon makes urban colours faded, emphasizing geometries and lines. In that situation a low building in a parking lot can become an interesting subject for a minimal geometric compo.

Not processed with added saturation. The title is just meant to emphasize the pale nature of the next pic.

Haunting and melancholic, shipwrecks hold a particular fascination for me.

Technical: Nikon D850, Nikkor 16-35mm f/4 VR @16mm, f/11, ISO 64, 30 seconds. 0.9 NISI medium grad with 6 stop ND filter. Area: Inverness, California. Shooting notes: my second attempt to photograph this beautiful wreck just north of San Francisco on a day when the coastline was shrouded in a blanket of mist. Shot from a very low perspective to emphasize the sweep of the bow without cutting off the bridge windows, I had maybe 15 or 20 minutes of good light as the sun began to break through. Interestingly, Point Reyes lighthouse nearby was used in the classic John Carpenter movie, The Fog which, as you may guess from the title, isn’t a RomCom.

For those of you with a few minutes to listen, this remains one of my favourite pieces of music. As I edited the image, it seemed to fit with the mood of the scene.

I miss photographing birds in urban parks, where they are habituated to people. The experience might not be as "pure" - and in that sense rewarding - as shooting truly wild birds and mammals, but being able to get close, like this, sure does reveal the details.

I learned my lesson yesterday, when I reposted a shot by simply changing the upload date. It is now near the front of my photostream, but hardly anyone saw it because it doesn't appear in the activity feed. This, too, is a repost, but a fresh upload. The original was cropped square and I was never happy with that. The vertical crop helped emphasize the natural lines of the swan's neck and head. Upscaling in ON1 Resize replaced the lost pixels.

1955 Triumph TR2 / 20TR2 Coupé Francorchamps

Manufacturer: Impéria, Nessonvaux (near Liège) - Belgium

Type: TR2 Coupé Francorchamps

Engine: 1991cc straight-4

Transmission: 4-speed manual

Power: 100 bhp / 4.800 rpm

Torque: 156 Nm / 3.000 rpm

Speed: 160 km/h

Production time: 1954 - 1955

Production outlet: 22 (incl. 3 "long door" versions)

Curb weight: 840 kg

Special:

- Only 17 survivors known.

- Impéria (founded in 1906) assembled Adlers, Standard Vanguards, Alfa Romeo's and Triumphs under license since 1948.

- This fixed Coupé had a special plexi sunroof that could be tilted open. It's the predecessor of a targa and panoramic roof.

- This car is quite noisy and it is quickly very hot, so opening the sunroof was no real luxury.

- The "Francorchamps" was intended as a deluxe version of the TR2 with real doors (with turn windows). Optionally available was a Laycock De-Normanville overdrive gearbox, spook wire wheels, radio, 2 speed wiper and a special wooden steering wheel.

- The name refers to nearby circuit of Francorchamps and emphasizes it's sporty character.

- Due to export restrictions the TR2 Coupé was (almost) only sold in Belgium. 1 or 2 have been sold in the Netherlands.

NB1 - In case you want to try it, here is my method for hand-held "Turbulentics-Style" Photos:

Shooting

- Turbulentics works best in bright sunlight.

- Set ISO high enough to force a high f-stop (ISO 400 here).

- Use auto-focus.

- Use a zoom lens so you can isolate the water you want.

- Use stabilization (built into lens or camera + luck).

- Shoot shutter-priority with a slow-ish shutter speed (1/30s here),

- Since you are shooting hand-held at a slow shutter speed, take several spontaneous shots. Getting a sharp image is partly luck at slow shutter speeds.

- Get a resultant high f-stop (f/29here) which will give you lots of depth of field, even though you are shooting telephoto.

Editing

According to your taste;

- Tilt colors toward blue or green

- Saturate colors & raise the contrast..

- Sharpen luminance to emphasize the long sprays created by the slow shutter speed.

Kinkaku-ji "Temple of the Golden Pavilion"), officially named Rokuon-ji, lit. "Deer Garden Temple"), is a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan.

The garden complex is an excellent example of Muromachi period garden design. The Muromachi period is considered to be a classical age of Japanese garden design. The correlation between buildings and its settings were greatly emphasized during this period. It was a way to integrate the structure within the landscape in an artistic way. The garden designs were characterized by a reduction in scale, a more central purpose, and a distinct setting.

A minimalistic approach was brought to the garden design, by recreating larger landscapes in a smaller scale around a structure.

It is designated as a National Special Historic Site and a National Special Landscape, and it is one of 17 locations comprising the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto World Heritage Site. It is also one of the most popular buildings in Japan, attracting a large number of visitors annually.

The Gergeti Trinity Church, located in Georgia, is situated on a mountain top near the village of Gergeti, near Stepantsminda Kazbegi in the Caucasus region, at an altitude of about 2,170 metres. The first light of dawn in the foreground of the photo enhances the mystical character of the location, while the snow-capped peaks and the dark silhouettes of the church emphasize the dramatic atmosphere of the landscape. This area is popular with hikers and photographers for its breathtaking views and historical value. The impressive snow-capped peaks of Mount Kazbek in the background are illuminated by the golden glow of the rising sun. The Georgian Orthodox church was built in the 14th century and is a beautiful example of medieval Georgian architecture. The church is an important national symbol of Georgia and attracts many pilgrims and tourists every year. Behind the Gergeti Trinity Church lies Kazbek (in Georgian: მყინვარწვერი, Mkinvartsveri), with an altitude of 5,054 meters one of the highest and most famous mountains in Georgia and the Greater Caucasus. Although the mountain is hidden in this photo, Kazbek is known for its impressive presence and mythological significance. Kazbek is an extinct stratovolcano. The name Mkinvartsveri means the Icy Peak in Georgian. The mountain is popular among mountaineers and adventurers. The standard route for the ascent usually starts from Stepantsminda, with the Gergeti Trinity Church serving as the starting point. Kazbek is often covered in snow and ice, which adds to the spectacular and mysterious appearance of the region. On clear days, the summit offers beautiful panoramic views of the Caucasus.

Gergeti Trinity Church is a 14th-century church in Georgia, located at an altitude of 2,170 meters near the village of Gergeti. It is located near Stepantsminda (Kazbegi), overlooking the majestic Mount Kazbek in the Caucasus. The church is an important symbol of Georgia and attracts many pilgrims and tourists. Due to its remote location, it offers spectacular and mystical views of the mountains.

The project is divided into five buildings, some of which are interconnected. The first building raised on Nymphenburger Strasse is a 10-story high-rise through which an open passageway leads into a quiet, planted inner courtyard. The remaining buildings are grouped around a pavilion located in the center of the courtyard. The office ensemble on Stiglmaierplatz is in a central yet tranquil location. Mostly undisturbed by trends, Walter & Bea Betz have created buildings that continually emphasize the value of atmospheric qualities that sensually convey architecture to its users. Their fields of work are office and administrative buildings, school and university buildings, residential buildings and complexes, and cultural facilities. Al the buildings with their signature have irregular floor plans and large, clear surfaces.

This digitally painted watercolor scene depicts a picturesque street in Taormina, Italy. The focus is on charming, Mediterranean-style buildings with warm ochre and beige tones, complemented by balconies and wooden shutters. The street-level atmosphere is lively, with a restaurant and bar where people are seated, enjoying their meals under outdoor awnings.

The foreground shows pedestrians in colorful clothing, adding life and movement to the scene. On the right side, stairs lead up to a pharmacy with its arched doorway, creating a sense of depth. The background is dominated by moody, dramatic clouds that contrast with the bright and cozy architecture, emphasizing the quaint yet dynamic charm of this small Italian town.

The Long-tailed Sylph (Aglaiocercus kingii) was photographed in the cloud forests of Cañon del Combeima, Tolima, Colombia. This stunning male, perched at an elevation of 2627 meters, showcases its iridescent emerald plumage and elongated tail against the vibrant yellow flowers. Capturing this moment required patience and careful attention to lighting, as the diffused natural light emphasized the bird’s vivid colors while maintaining a soft, natural background.

As a photographer, this image represents a blend of technical precision and deep appreciation for the region’s biodiversity. The unique setting and elevation added an extra layer of challenge and reward to the shot. The Long-tailed Sylph’s presence in this high-altitude habitat, slightly above its typical range, highlights the importance of preserving these delicate ecosystems. This photograph is a tribute to the remarkable beauty and diversity found in Colombia’s cloud forests.

This stunning capture showcases an ocelot in its natural habitat at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. The wild feline's intricate coat pattern of rosettes and spots is on full display as it rests on the sun-baked earth. Dappled sunlight filtering through overhead branches creates a play of light and shadow, emphasizing the ocelot's alert posture and keen gaze. The arid landscape, complete with weathered wood and sandy soil, perfectly frames this beautiful creature, offering a glimpse into the diverse wildlife of the Sonoran Desert ecosystem. This image serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of conservation efforts to protect these magnificent animals and their habitats.

The church is an important symbol of Georgia. The cross at in front of the church is an important religious symbol and marks the spiritual significance of this site. Often erected as a memorial or pilgrimage cross, it emphasizes the connection between the Georgian Orthodox faith and the stunning natural surroundings of the Caucasus. The cross symbolizes protection and blessings for travelers who make the trek to the church. Many visitors and pilgrims experience a sense of peace and inspiration at the cross, especially due to its serene and secluded location. The views from this site are breathtaking, and the cross is a powerful visual element that enhances the spiritual atmosphere.

White-fronted Scops-Owl has a Conservation Status under the IUCN of Vulnerable www.iucnredlist.org/species/22688548/110219632

White-fronted Scops-Owl is a rare species, with a status of Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. (Our guides emphasized how lucky we were to come across it, and the eBird description says “can be difficult to see.”) White-fronted Scops-Owl has a limited range, primarily in Thailand and Malaysia; we observed this individual in Kaeng Krachan National Park, Phetchaburi province, Thailand.

In this intimate snapshot, we're drawn into the miniature world of Calibrachoa, often affectionately known as million bells. Two dainty blossoms take center stage, their petals a soft fusion of pink and yellow, creating a gentle contrast against the lush green foliage surrounding them.

The flowers are reaching out over a textured gray surface of a patio. This juxtaposition of the delicate organic forms against the hard, man-made background emphasizes the flowers' fragile beauty.

Calibrachoa's resilience is quietly celebrated here, as these blooms continue to offer their cheerful presence even as summer fades. The slightly out-of-focus greenery framing the scene adds depth and a sense of abundance, hinting at the plant's prolific nature.

This image captures a moment of quiet beauty in everyday surroundings, reminding us to pause and appreciate the small wonders that often go unnoticed in our busy lives. It's a visual haiku, speaking to the enduring charm of nature's small miracles.

I like to emphasize warm weather pictures on weekends at this time of the year, but I also like to put up fun stuff on weekends.

This one was fun to me. I have seen many this winter but these hares are very elusive. Usually I see them bouncing/bounding away from me with their iconic hops. This was taken with my longest lens/extender combination.

These are not little bunnies. The big males can weigh more than 9 lbs.

(n.) (obscure) A woman who emphasizes a life of passion expressed through personal style, leisurely pastimes, charm, and cultivation of life’s pleasures.

Veszprém is a town that loves music. What is important to us is not only the professionals, the big names and the mass events, but we also strive to make music an everyday part of our life. We motivate amateurs and hobby musicians, because music builds communities and gives our inhabitants experiences to remember. We are happy to think about the bands that have grown up here, the Street Music Festival, VeszprémFest, and the Auer Violin Festival. We are proud to say that all stars who have once performed here like to return to us thanks to the open and music-loving audience.

Due to this openness we have a school in Veszprém where 400 children are learning folk dance. There are three parallel classical music concert series to a full house, and every weekend we provide concerts and electronic music events to 100-1200 young people. Another result is that, relative to its size, Veszprém is a leading city in organising live music events.

We do not emphasize one single style or event but would like to focus on music itself as a tool of communication among people and communities. Participation is what actually counts, because we believe that music can make life better at individual and collective levels.

This is why we would like to create social areas for playing music, motivate learning to perform music, and bring inspiring events to the town. All in all we would like to simultaneously strengthen and widen basis (and also, if a pyramid has a wider base, its top can reach higher). At the same time, music and culture are both highly beneficial to the financial state of the town and tourism, and this fits the aims of ECoC 2023 Veszprém perfectly.

Wishing you all nice X-Mas days. A candle with warm light emphasizing the blue hour - I Love it :-)

Cheers!

More wonders and magical light at The Black Place...

Here, I've more closely adhered to O'Keeffe's narrow palette aesthetic - at least a bit, but also emphasized the deep contrasts found with this day's amazing light. I worked on this image over a series of days - this time from a single capture - striving to bring out the depth, and the interplay of color contrasts.

This is the third in my series of works depicting The Black Place.

I tried to emphasize the strange appearance of Mr. Fern in monochrome.

In this piece I combined two different classifications of environments: the forest and the city. These two made the most sense to me because the city took over what was once all forest and woodlands.

In this piece I cut up a piece of mat board and glued the cut edges back onto the piece and painted over it with acrylic.

The famous byzantine Lamentations of the Tomb of Christ, sung during the Matins of Holy and Great Saturday (Holy Friday evening). The official name of the hymns is "Εγκώμια", which is greek and means "Praises". The Praises (although considered being hymns of lament) are chanted in Plagal 1st and 3rd Tones, which are actually used for chants intended for triumphant occasions. On this performance parts of all three Staseis of the Praise are chanted. Note that in the beginning of each part, the second verse is chanted in arabic.

Service: Holy and Great Saturday Matins

Performers: Greek Byzantine Choir

"The funerary chapel contains prefigurations of the Virgin and Themes of Resurrection and Judgment. Like the narthexes, the program of the parekklesion is divided between the Virgin and Christ. Here, however, the overriding theme is Salvation, befitting a funeral chapel. The western domed bay is devoted to the Virgin; the upper walls represent Old Testament prefigurations of the Virgin, emphasizing her role in Salvation. The eastern bay is devoted to the Last Judgment. The complex program of the chapel culminates in the conch of the apse, where the Anastasis (Harrowing of Hell) is represented, flanked by scenes of resurrection. Unlike the narthexes and the naos, the parekkelsion is decorated with frescoes."
