Roe, Ituri, DRC – On 10 November 2020, assailants established a roadblock and started extorting money from civilians at Tchalaka, Saliboko and Kparanganza, about 30 km South-West of MONUSCO base at Roe. Kinshasa, DRC: As part of the multilingualism advocated by the United Nations, MONUSCO pays tribute to French, one of the six official languages of the UN. On the occasion of the French Language Day, a spelling competition was organised on Thursday 28 April 2022 in Kinshasa, in collaboration with the Association of Women Journalists of the print press and targeted the city's high school girls under the theme: writing without mistakes. Shabunda, Sud Kivu, RD Congo : Grâce au projet de Réduction de la Violence Communautaire (CVR) financé par la section DDR/RR-CVR de la MONUSCO, l'eau va désormais couler à Shabunda centre et cela après plus de cent ans sans réseau d'approvisionnement en eau potable. Ce Projet inaugure le 28 mars dernier permettra à toute la population de Shabunda d'obtenir de l'eau potable des eaux souterraines via les 23 puits qui seront installés dans différents quartiers. Il devrait permettre également de créer des activités génératrices de revenus au profit des ex-combattants, jeunes à risque et femmes vulnérables du Territoire de Shabunda. Shabunda, South Kivu, DR Congo: Thanks to the Community Violence Reduction (CVR) project funded by the DDR/RR-CVR section of MONUSCO, water will now be flowing in Shabunda centre after more than a hundred years without a water supply network. Inaugurated on 28 March 2022, this project will enable the entire population of Shabunda to obtain drinking water from groundwaters via the 23 wells that will be installed in different neighborhoods. Bunia, Ituri, RDC : Soixante casques bleus marocains de la MONUSCO ont quitté Bunia pour Goma ce 5 août 2020, pour être rapatriés au Maroc, après 6 mois supplémentaires passés en Ituri à la suite de la suspension de vols pour cause de Covid-19. L’un d’eux a déclaré : « nous repartons avec un sentiment mixte de joie et de tristesse : joie, parce qu’après un an de service, nous allons retrouver nos familles, nous avons aussi reçu une médaille de l’ONU pour services rendus à la Paix, en plus de l’expérience internationale que nous avons acquise et des amis gagnés ici avec lesquels nous allons garder le contact. Bunia, Ituri, DRC: Sixty MONUSCO’s peacekeepers from Morocco left Bunia for Goma on August 5, 2020, to be repatriated to Morocco, after spending 6 additional months in Ituri following flights’ suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic. One of them declared: “we are going back home with a mixed feeling of joy and sadness: joy, because after one year’s service, we are going to meet with our families again; furthermore, we have received UN medals for the services rendered for the advancement of Peace, on top of the international experience acquired and the friendship ties made here which we would like to maintain. Kananga, Kasaï, RDC : Dans le cadre des 16 jours d’activisme contre les violences basées sur le Genre, la MONUSCO, le Conseil National de la Jeunesse et des organisations de la Société civile ont organisé ce 9 décembre une marche à travers la ville de Kananga pour dire NON à ce fléau. Marie Jeanne Bishilualua, vice-présidente chargée du Genre au Conseil provincial de la Jeunesse, a déclaré : « cette marche est d’une grande importance pour moi. C’est un signe fort que nous donnons ainsi dans la démarche de mettre fin aux violences faites aux femmes et, dans notre cas ici au Kasaï central, c’est pour dire aussi NON aux mariages précoces, aux viols et aux mariages forcés ». Kananga, Kasaï, DRC: As part of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, MONUSCO, the National Youth Council and civil society organizations organized a march through the City of Kananga on December 9, to say NO to this scourge. Marie Jeanne Bishilualua, Vice-President for Gender in the Provincial Youth Council, said: “This walk is of great importance to me. It is a strong signal in our move to put an end to the violence against women and, in the case in point, in the Kasaï Central, it is also meant to say NO to rapes as well as early and forced marriages ".
