In Goma a risk education relay race in “tshukudu”, a traditional wooden scooter used for transportation, was organized. Fifteen teams with local community and personnel from MONUSCO, UN agencies as well as international and national NGOs rode their tshukudus – many for the first time in their lives - across the streets of Goma and later enjoyed a concert with risk education music and messages.

MONUSCO Force Commander General Ricardo Neves was in Matombo (36km northeast of Beni) and then to Mamove (about ten km west of Oicha) an area of armed groups including the ADF and MM and where the Force intervention Brigade has planted its units to protect civilians. He boosted the moral of South African peacekeepers who live in very difficult conditions because of the difficulty of the terrain (rain, sludge etc.) often preventing vehicles from leaving the base ,and encouraged them work to continue to pursue their mandate to protect the civilian population. The DRC boasts exceptionally high freshwater fish diversity. Although ecological investigations are incomplete and research remains ongoing, over 690 fish species have been recorded in the Congo basin, of which an estimated 80% are endemic.

With one of the largest catches from inland fisheries in Africa, fish products account for an estimated 25-30% of the Congolese population's protein intake. Yet this is a sector where little information exists and where regulations and enforcement remain lax. Today, the DRC's fisheries sector is almost completely outside the formal economy, with artisanal fisher-folk accounting for 95% of the national fish catch.

UNEP's recommandations therefore include launching baseline studies, monitoring fisheries resources and promoting co-management structures for fishermen, transboundary collaboration in the Great Rift Valley Lakes as well as the development of sustainable aquaculture.

Pêcheur, RDC

Les eaux de la RDC sont dotées d'une grande diversité de poissons d'eau douce. Même si les études écologiques sont incomplètes et les recherches toujours en cours, plus de 690 espèces de poissons ont déjà été répertoriées dans le bassin du Congo, parmi lesquelles environ 80% sont des espèces endémiques.

Avec l'un des plus grands nombres de prises dans les eaux intérieures en Afrique, soit 239000 tonnes, les poissons et les produits de la pêche comptent pour 25 à 50% de la consommation de protéines de la population congolaise. Or il s'agit d'un secteur caractérisé par le manque de données et par une application laxiste des lois et réglementations. Aujourd'hui, le secteur de la pêche en RDC est quasiment sorti de l'économie officielle, les pêcheurs artisanaux locaux prélevant 95% des prises de poissons du pays.

Les recommandations du PNUE suggèrent donc entre autres d'entreprendre des études de référence et de contrôler les ressources de la pêche, de promouvoir les structures de cogestion pour les pêcheurs, d'encourager la collaboration transfrontalière dans les Grands Lacs et de développer une aquaculture durable.

Major infrastructure while critical, should not eclipse small-scale investments especially as these benefit a large population.

By opening a window of opportunity for private enterprises and social economy organizations to participate in the water sector, additional resources and innovative approaches may be marshalled to address water challenges. Given the severe budgetary constraints, mobilising investments by international partners and private companies will be critical for the water sector’s recovery, particularly in supporting nascent decentralised water institutions at the provincial level.

Etant données les contraintes budgétaires importantes, la mobilisation des investissements des partenaires internationaux et des sociétés privées sera en effet cruciale pour le relèvement du secteur, en particulier pour soutenir les nouvelles institutions décentralisées en charge de l’eau au niveau provincial.

Compte-rendu : Kalemie : Célébration de la Journée internationale de la femme 2019

Les différents messages ont été inspirés du thème international de la Journée internationale de la femme 2019 : « Penser équitablement, bâtir intelligemment, innover pour le changement » et du thème national : Promouvoir la paix, la sécurité et le Genre par l’accès aux services publics de qualité avec comme slogan « Même regard, même avenir et égalité des chances ».

La célébration de la Journée internationale de la femme a été marquée cette année par une marche des femmes organisée sous la coordination du Ministère du Genre, Famille, Enfant et Action Humanitaire de la province du Tanganyika. Environ 3000 femmes de différentes catégories socioprofessionnelles ont pris part à cette marche qui a eu lieu à la place Maendeleo au centre-ville de Kalemie en présence des autorités politico-administratives provinciales, les membres du Conseil de sécurité provincial, la société civile, le système des Nations Unies (MONUSCO et Agences), les ONGs nationales et internationales, les mouvements et associations de jeunes, les médias et un public venu nombreux soutenir les femmes. La mobilisation a été remarquable. La marche rythmée par la fanfare des Kimbanguistes a connu la participation du personnel féminin civil, militaire et de police de la MONUSCO de même que des Agences du Nations Unies notamment OIM, PAM, UNICEF.

La manifestation a été présidée par le Gouverneur de province par intérim. Rappelant le thème international du 8 mars, l’autorité a axé son discours sur l’innovation pour le changement. Appelant à la solidarité envers les femmes et les jeunes filles, il a demandé l’implication de tous et de toutes, et l’adhésion des politiques et des médias pour qu’intervienne le changement pour la promotion des droits de la femme.

Par ailleurs, outre l’appui logistique et la participation du bureau de la MONUSCO à la marche des femmes, les femmes de la police de la MONUSCO, Secteur de Kalemie ont organisé une séance de sensibilisation sur le thème du 8 mars à l’institut Technique du cinquantenaire à 12km de Kalemie, occasion d’expliquer aux élèves l’origine et l’importance de cette journée. Elles ont encouragé les filles à s’investir dans les études surtout dans les domaines de la science, la technologie, l’ingénierie et les mathématiques pour pouvoir réduire certaines inégalités et de favoriser ainsi une transformation structurelle positive de la société. L’équipe UNPOL s’est rendue ensuite au camp des déplacés du Cinquantenaire où elle a fait un don à une femme vulnérable dont la maison a été détruite suite à un incendie.

Le bataillon indonésien de la MONUSCO (INDORBD) a quant à lui mis en place pour la Journée, au profit des populations de Kalemie, des consultations médicales principalement pour les « mamans » ainsi qu’une série d’activités ludiques pour les enfants et les jeunes gens sur la place Maendeleo de Kalemie.

Notons aussi que le personnel du système des Nations Unies (MONUSCO/Agences) a organisé en son sein, au quartier général de la MONUSCO, une activité récréative avec chants, danses et sketches sur les questions de stéréotypes et relations hommes/femmes dans la société.

Un broadcast /dissémination du message du SG/ONU pour le 8 mars a été fait auprès du personnel des Nations Unies, de la presse locale et de diverses audiences par la Section de l’information publique de Kalemie.

Journée internationale de la paix 2021 : A Kalemie, la MONUSCO a organisé un échange autour de la problématique de la résolution des conflits communautaires avec l’organisation des différents fora pour mettre fin au conflit. La cérémonie a été présidée par le Ministre provincial des finances, représentant le Gouverneur du Tanganyika, à l’Hôtel Tcham.
