domodossola (VB) - lunedi 11 marzo 2019, h 13.45

Domodossola is an international station and a transition point between two electrification systems: the Swiss 15 kV AC and Italian 3 kV DC. The northern half of the station is supplied with the Swiss system, while the southern half is with the Italian system. Therefore, the IR 325 train from Geneve Aeroport to Milano Centrale has entered the international station with a Swiss locomotive Re 460 in head with lowered pantographs to reach the southern half fed to 3 kV DC. Once parked, the Italian locomotive E 444 036 shunts to remove the Swiss Re 460 Swiss. Then, once decoupled, she will "launch" the Re 460 to the Swiss side for the Re 460 can raise their pantographs. My final offering for today is a bit of a novelty. It features an unidentified Fourgon which has been fitted with a steam heating boiler and was pictured at Domodossola - 09/12/1972.

The first FS diesel locomotives were not equipped with any form of train heating and these units were marshalled behind diesel locomotive and used to heat the passenger coaches, especially the oldest tyes, which had a steam heating only.
