This cooking fire or fogon is elevated from the dirt floor in a Mayan kitchen. This elevated fogon is an effort to eliminate burns from family members who sometimes fall into the open fire. The round comal in the background is for making tortillas. Chiapas, 2007
In a nearby suburb of Paris, Rebekah Lee took us behind the scenes at one of the few remaining covered markets. Loaded with the bounty of the market, we walked to Marguerite's cooking studio a few blocks away to create an inspired French Sunday lunch which we enjoyed in the shade of the 19th century courtyard.
