Pumpkin, Sunflower and Sesame Seeds on tamari sauce | To make this, dry fry (no oil) pumpkin and sunflower seeds first. Add the sesame seeds when the pumpkin and sunflower seeds are popping.
Still cold all the time, I was all set to make another big, hearty and warming meal this evening (beef bourguignon, if you must know) when I abruptly changed my mind. Never mind the ridiculousness of eating asparagus way out of season (but it was so perfect), it was so springy and the opposite of this endless cold, it was perfect.
The granite mortar for smashing all ingredients and pestle set required modern cooking equipment. This petite version is perfect for grinding small quantities of dried spices, garlic, fresh herbs and even pills. The non-porous stone makes it easy to clean, just rinse with water and drip dry
My husband and I are polar opposites in many ways. He is super extrovertly (yup, made up word) social and spontaneous while I am much more reserved. Well, we ran into an acquaintance of his and his family at Target yesterday and within ten minutes, my husband had invited them over for Sunday dinner. Luckily we had time to run to the grocery store for supplies. He usually does this last minute and we scramble to throw together something on hand. So here I am making bread sticks from scratch. It's a recipe handed down from my mom that always turn out delicious.
The dinner was a success. Good food, lots of laughter, and a new friendship.

You see a Congolese girl with a big metal cooking pot in the middle of a field near the edge of the bush. You think, what is she doing with that big metal cooking pot?
Is the pot full of food? You think may be her mother is cooking nearby. But it looks shiny new. It's filled with water. You think may be her mother is preparing to cook. You must have water to cook.
She is coming from the water source. She only has this big cooking pot instead of the normal yellow jerry can or plastic tub. The water is the important thing. It does not matter what you use to get water.

It´s a rainy day so I decided to clean my flat intensively. At lunch a friend came and we make ´Spätzle´. After the big cleaning I will retire with some DVDs which I get in the morning at the library.
Allison and me handmade the dumplins and the rest of the dishes were recipes from my mom. They included a cucumber salad, purple rice with chinese sausage and a anise flavored chicken. Everything was yumtastic!
