"nutritious cooking the waterless way"

These 4.5" x 6.25" books are made from repurposed papers recovered from printer test prints, notebooks, vintage cookbooks, old invoices, construction paper, index cards, and vintage kids' books. They would make great scrapbooks or notebooks. Each unique book contains 20-22 pages which are machine stitched. The book is finished with clear packing tape and a rubber band holds them closed.

The covers of this limited edition set are made from vintage cookbook dividers and have great images on the inside cover of each book.

I purchased the new Carolyn Mark cd "The Queen of Vancouver Island" online from MapleMusic.com. I also received a cookbook with my order as well as a black plastic corkscrew.

I asked if they could draw a dinosaur on the shipping envelop.

The photo above is what they drew.

Oh my gosh, can I tell you how much fun I am having working on the Raw Fu Cookbook (Volume 1)!

Going back through all of these photos, recipes, etc is just making me realize how amazing the past few months have been. I am definitely in the Holy Flow today. :)

I have this Betty Crocker cookbook from the 70s. These two recipes, the one for swedish meatballs and the one for Waikiki meatballs, are pretty much the only two recipes I use out of the entire book. My tastes are just a bit different from what was popular in the 70s, I think.

The first step for us was to follow the recipes he selected (which DJ has already typed and saved in his laptop) and create the dishes for photography.

(Once the photography was taken by me, we would eat the dishes. DJ is a very good cook.)

I didn't forget to say Thank You :)

I have had many clients that follow special diets, then, in order to cook for them I purchase the cookbooks so I can learn about each diet.

Once I finished taking all the photos, I began to convert the color images into monochromatic images. This was because the cookbook would be printed in B&W (by Kinkos, due to the limited budget again). Also, most of the images are in portrait format instead of landscape, as requested by DJ. This had to do with the cookbook format.

The big question for me was, 'how does Kinkos print B&W images? Using lazer printer? inkjet?' What kind of output should I give DJ? To be save, I decided to give him every file in B&W. If I gave Kinkos color photos and they printed in B&W, I I really had no idea what they would turn out. I just hope that when they print they didn't lose too much of details if they use cheaper methods. The files I gave DJ were all B&W (duo tones) in TIFF.

From my husband's grandmother's VERY smoking-friendly home -- I wonder what color the cover once was? It's still very pretty though!

Julia Child famously said (and I'm paraphrasing) that people who cook pasta aren't really cooking. But if loving spaghetti is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

I spent the afternoon cooking. Since I didn't use any of my cookbooks, I thought the least I could do is take their picture...

The first two cookbooks I ever owned - circa about 1974. The Pooh cookbook was a gift from family friends; the Disney book my dad bought for me

The back cover of a cookbook from Spry Shortening. Detail #2.

Advertising tricks: Actually, any good shortening would probably give the same results as Spry. Also, I suspect that the issue of digestibility depends mainly on considerations besides the shortening used.
