In the back of the Tyler Florence store in Mill Valley, I found an entire room full of cookbooks and a big comfy couch. Bob and I settled down for some serious browsing here :)

I think Edna would be proud!! With the Fuji apples, the sauce was perfectly sweet, not too much, not a bit tart. The sugar melted down and left an almost caramel like flavor, which the spices (Nutmeg and Cinnamon) helped balance. Of course to make it extra indulgent, we added to Pecan and Cinnamon Cookie Straws!

The original date of this book is 1952.

I know this isn't book spotting, but I just had to rave about the SFPL. I'm a big collector of cookbooks but I go to the library now to review any new books that come out before I buy. These are the cookbooks I got today and I just had to share. Support your local libraries, they are the greatest resources for knowledge , even stuff not food related. (via Foodspotting)

Looking back, I'm surprised at how much I cooked from this. And I'd still make some of it, too. I'm astonished at the wide range of skills it encourages building -- boiling, mixing, pan frying, baking, proper chopping, freezing.
