This little man, a favorite to so many, is so much fun to watch as he matures and learns how to be an orangutan. He is now

"Mr Independent"

Kecil is a 3 1/2 yr old male Bornean Orangutan.

He was born at the Toledo Zoo (Jan 2014) and came to Brookfield Zoo when he was about 5 months old. He was paired with Maggie as his foster mom. Maggie passed away last year just 2 months shy of her 55th Birthday.

Kecil was then introduced to Sophia and Kekasih who became her second surrogate family. He is doing quite well and now has a baby "sister", 7 mo old, Heidi.

Wild Orangutans are critically endangered due to the palm oil industry. They may likely go extinct in the wild in our lifetime.

Read labels!! Say NO to Palm Oil!
