If you haven't seen a couple of my previous uploads, you may not know the story behind this photograph.
We lost our beloved 5yr old Alaskan Malamute last Wednesday which broke our hearts. We spent a lot of time in the mountains with him and to remember him, we took his sister Nīla to the Lake District for a hike up Angeltarn Pikes - aptly named.
This is a photograph of a little break we had and they say a photograph can tell a thousand words, then this one certainly does - she's missing her buddy.
This was her first winter hike and we ended up doing 6.5 miles, with an 1800ft accent - Nīla carried 5.5kg in her pack and did extremely well; Very proud of my girl.

Another image I took way back in January 2014 on a visit to London. This is Sligsby Place just off Long Acre by Covent Garden in London. I spotted this guy sitting on the bench just staring into the Shop Window of Jaeger, I wonder what his thoughts were?

As much as closeup shots of polar bears are interesting, I felt the story of this image is not the bear. It's the ice. The ice is visually interesting as it breaks up. And what the ice or lack thereof means for the future of this bear, her icy world, and polar bears in general.
Sea ice is the lowest on record this season in Svalbard. Polar bears depend on sea ice to hunt seals. With ice breaking up sooner in the season every year, there will be more hungry polar bears by late summer. Unfortunately some of these bears may starve. Regardless of the debate of what is causing climate change, climate is changing rapidly in the polar regions. This will have profound consequences to the wildlife residing in these regions.
I know this image won't do well on Flickr because the version everyone sees is small. But I believe it would look spectacular printed very large.

The collection mainly consists of the work of the local steel sculptor Leonard Wübbena. This collection and the sculptors permanently represented in the exhibition form the basis for this place of contemplation.

Happy New Year.
Not been an easy one but if I was reminded of anything it was to get out there and live! I am now entering 2019 with a clear heart and a positive mind. So out with the old and in with the new, ring out the false, ring in the true as they say.
Oh and I will keep taking lots of photos. This is my favourite of the year.
Wishing everyone a very happy and positive 2019 x
I've always believed that every interesting photo needs at least one primary subject. This is usually the thing that inspired us to take that photo.
Of course there is no limit to the number of interesting "things" that we could include in one photo, but there should always be at least be one obvious one.
If the viewers of our photos can't immediately identify what it is they're supposed to be looking at, then they probably won't spend much time looking at them.
What do we do when everything looks equally interesting (or boring, depending on your outlook on life)? We could either zoom in and focus on the most interesting thing, or we could attempt to include as many interesting things as possible.
Everything in this panorama looks interesting to me, yet nothing stands out as being more interesting than anything else. So I'll completely understand if you don't understand why I took this photo. There is no primary subject here.
There is, however, only one primary emotion here... you either feel it or you don't.
.. Thai Buddhist monks. .. I overheard someone in the crowd say that these kids knew they wanted to be monks since they were 5 years old, which downright amazed me. ... at 5 years old, me, I didn't have a clue about anything other than playing in a sandbox with toy cars and trucks. .. .. . so hey, hats off to these guys.
