I think we all sometimes feel like we are the seedling planted among the giant redwoods. My wife's vibrant grandmother used to often use the phrase "Comparisons Odious" to describe certain situations. I eventually became curious enough about the saying to look it up. It basically means that comparisons are hateful and destructive.
I find myself often thinking of and repeating this oh so true mantra when I start to compare myself and my accomplishments, or lack of, to those around me. We will never grow taller by tearing down those who are closer to the clouds than we... we have to create our growth rings at our own pace and elect to be happy in our own circumstances and struggles.

Comparison of digital and analogue emusion lift. Both images taken with a Chamonix 4x5 camera. On the left: image taken with Kodak Ektar, then scanned, printed as inkjet print onto a transfer medium and lifted onto watercolour paper. On the right: Image taken on expired Polaroid Type 59 and lifted onto watercolour paper.
While the image on expired polaroid is much more faded, the emulsion is also much softer and more delicate.
This is just a quick comparison between the original MOC from three years ago and the updated version. The original was never posted and wasn't even finished.

A male Honycreeper signs to a female. The background is not the best since I don't really go for spotty backgrounds, but the behaviors of the birds made this photo too good to pass on it just because of the BG.

Maybe it speaks for itself, but here's what I did:
- Brightened the photo using screen
- Used a light greyish blue on soft light to correct colors
- Increased saturation
- Used the stamp tool to add shinies in his right eye >___> I love these gem pupils but I hate it when one is more shiny than the other XD

Made to Move Dolls have a slightly wider thighs and hips to that of an actual woman , rather than the usual Barbie model shape.
Guess who got Pacific Rim for Christmas! I kind of feel like a disgrace to the Geek name because I never saw it in theaters. I know, Shocking isn't it?
Like many fans of the film, I instantly fell in love with the Russian Jaeger, Cherno Alpha. It's just 2,412 Tons of pure badassery! So of coarse I had to build one.
This MOC is in Microfig scale and stands in at 2' 11" tall. It took roughly 70 hours to build. I didn't keep track of the part count, but if I were to wager a guess, i'd say it contains no-less than 5000 pieces.
Without and with light painting: this is a before and after comparison during the evening twilight.
Both images are single 30 sec exposures @ f/8, ISO 320.
In the bottom image, I walked through path and over the bridge with a small LED panel light in my hand. That's a campfire in a picnic area at the end of the path (almost looks like a sunset thru the trees, doesn't it?).

Many Westerns (especially females) have longer bills than this one and some juveniles have a bit brighter plumage, both of which would make the contrast between the two species a bit more distinct.
I shot this earlier with the Voigtlander Ultron 28mm lens. Later I'll shoot it once more with the Q2 Monochrom for comparison.

This week's Saturday Timewatch features Hambledon Hill, Dorset. It is a prehistoric Iron Age hill fort where radio-carbon dating of objects found during archaeological investigation show the hill fort goes back to at least 2850BC.....almost 5000 years ago.
Both Maiden Castle and Eggardon hill forts have featured here before. They are impressive. However, Hambledon Hill is even more monumental by comparison, both when viewed from below and from on top. The cattle in the foreground give some indication of the hill fort's size. It rises to 192m (630 ft) from the Blackmore Vale above the village of Child Okeford.
Note the long barrow burial chamber top left on the summit.
My Wife's Grandmother (Dorothy Wolz), a beautiful soul and an English teacher, used this phrase often with her children. Although I agree that comparisons can be hateful, in this case comparing the size of this adult Burrowing Owl and its freshly caught Deer Mouse perfectly illustrates the scale and the small size of a Burrowing Owl.
