These community gardens were placed on an abandoned railroad easement. The now overgrown tracks are just out of the photo to the left.
Photos from the Yosemite National Park portion of the "MOVE - Mountains Oceans Valley Experience" trip that almost all our incoming freshman and transfer students took this year. Those who went to Yosemite worked on several environmental projects. These are photos of President Pamela A. Eibeck as she helped pull non-native berries that are taking over the valley flloor, choking out native plants and trees.

www.urbanjacksonville.info/2007/10/17/podcast-episode-13-... In this episode I talk with Phillip Ramsey and Jennifer McCharen about the Springfield community garden. The garden is located on Main Street in the raised lot north of The Pearl.
We talk about how the garden got started, plans for the garden and Jacksonville in general. Eventually Phillip and Jennifer hope to provide space for the community to grow their own food and possibly provide food for their neighbors and the surrounding downtown community.

Last week representatives from Carl Sandburg College visited with first-graders at Steele Elementary School to assist alumna first-grade teacher and alumna Faviana Moreno '16 with a lesson. The topic asked: "what is a community," and went through examples establishing the importance of community and how a community is made up of not only places to go and things to do, but that it takes people that help a community function. We enjoyed the chance to visit with so many students and also be one of the first groups to utilize the beautiful outdoor courtyard area!
Throughout the summer, the children of Watertown have been participating in the Watertown Free Public Library Summer Reading Program. In addition to reading, we’ve been doing bunches of activities, including our Friday’s Unplugged series for kids in kindergarten through fifth grade. These weekly programs encourage kids to step away from their video games and put aside their battery-powered entertainment for a morning of electronic-less fun.
On Friday, July 13th, our Unplugged activity was creating a Community Mural. The children were asked to design a section of canvas with their interpretation of a theme: What Watertown Means to Me. We put all of their pieces together to create a collective piece of artwork. Additional pieces of artwork in the gallery were created by children of all ages throughout the summer based on this same time.

Young Audiences and the Goodnow Community Center partnered together again this spring and summer to bring YA artists to neighborhood students and families with support from the Macht Fund of THE ASSOCIATED. During the summer showcase, students shared the artwork and performances they created with artists, including Hip Hop dance ensemble Illstyle and Peace Productions, photographer Christina Delgado, illustrator Danyett Tucker, and ceramic artist Herb Massie.
This session featured nearly one hundred posters that showcased community-engaged activities at UMass Boston, and celebrate the efforts and achievements of faculty, staff, and community partners. Each year the poster showcase provides an excellent opportunity to learn about existing efforts, make new connections, and build stronger collaborations.

I think I will never get tired of making this particular kind of pictures - the 'looking through' scene. It' s like looking through a window into someone' s home-while nobody is watching.
