Wednesday August 14th 2019 Ferguslie Tannahill Centre Own Yer Bike Inaugural Meeting No1.
Today saw the Ferguslie Community Council join forces with “Own Yer Bike” a local group that was set up by Marc Small, himself a community council leader. Who along with their youth members nominated members to positions such as chair person etc as part of their mission statement agenda?
The group have already given away and sold many bikes salvaged and repaired in what could be one of Ferguslie parks local action groups’ success. Only last week the group held an event in and around the Tannahill Centre, that saw a large turnout of adults and children alike, which prompted the Daily Express to splash the story over their centre pages.
Though still in its infancy the group have made contacts far and wide, where they hope to maintain and repair other group’s bikes while their main aim is to get kids off the couch and on their bikes for a healthier lifestyle.
So if you’re looking for a kid’s bike or would love to get involved in any if not all of Ferguslies many groups. You can find Own Your Bike on Facebook, or just pop into the Tannahill Centre for more info and find out what’s going on in your neighbourhood.
The 27th annual Community Christmas program for the Riverbend community in Illinois is collecting items for those in need during the holiday season. The program, sponsored by United Way's Southwest Illinois Division and The Telegraph, runs through December 15, when dozens of boxes will be picked up from local businesses, organizations, churches and schools to be distributed to 15 local agencies. Items being collected include non-perishable food, new clothes and coats, winter weather necessities like gloves, hats and scarves, blankets, towels, baby care items, hygiene items, and new toys.

This session featured nearly one hundred posters that showcased community-engaged activities at UMass Boston, and celebrate the efforts and achievements of faculty, staff, and community partners. Each year the poster showcase provides an excellent opportunity to learn about existing efforts, make new connections, and build stronger collaborations.

On May 1, 2023, the Community Collaborative class under the direction of Professor Ananya Roy joined with the Promise Institute to host the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and Soledad García Muñoz, special rapporteur on economic, social, cultural and environmental rights. During a hearing that included the presentation of research, several presenters talked about their lived experiences at homeless encampments, including one at Echo Park Lake that had been forcibly cleared by law enforcement two years earlier. To celebrate at the culmination of our opening week events, we hosted our Community Open House on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, from noon to 2:30 p.m. Groups of a cappella singers, dancers, and musicians filled the center as we opened up our spaces and invited the public to poke around. Elise Witt led An Impromptu Glorious Chorus at the end of the open house and invited everyone to join in. After the open house, we welcomed our second performers, the conductorless ensemble Sphinx Virtuosi.
My garden is once again full of sunflowers. I keep the sunflowers even though they sometimes crowd out the other things I plant, I keep the sunflowers because the bees love them. I mean look at all the pollen this bee has collected, his legs are full.

On MLK Jr. Day, Monday, January 20 at 5:00 PM, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, over a dozen progressive community organizations from across Philadelphia descended on City Hall at the Catto Statue as a show of solidarity with the struggle for Black liberation and self-determination. Supporting organizations noted the inauguration of Donald Trump also occurred on that day and took a stand against the white supremacist, imperialist and misogynist system that he is the latest representative of. The Philadelphia Anti-Imperialist Alliance calls for a world transformation that does not rely on oppression and imperialism.
At City Hall, the crowd of over 250 people braved frigid temperatures to hear speakers from Workers World Party, Philadelphia Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression and the
Students for Justice in Palestine Coalition.
The march paused at 11th and Market to listen to speakers from the Save Chinatown Coalition and Health Care Workers for Palestine.
The march ended at 5th and Market, where Anakbayan, Friends of Congo and Industrial Workers of the World also spoke.
The assassination of Dr. King in 1968 as he organized sanitation workers in Memphis, Tennessee, was a naked act of state violence aimed at preventing his revolutionary work of uniting poor and working people in support of Black liberation. His lifetime fight against what he called the “triple evils” of U.S. racism, economic exploitation, and militarism is one we continue today. Rather than recite quotes in an empty attempt to show solidarity, we call upon all to join together against inhumane immigration policies, in support of health care as a human right, call out those who want to undermine Black history, call out those who erode voting rights, demand the resources we need to solve our climate crisis and end U.S. imperialism that makes us all less safe.
We are more than a year into the brutal U.S./Israeli-led genocide in Palestine and hundreds of years into the existence of the U.S. empire that Dr. King understood to be the “greatest purveyor of violence in the world today.” Regardless of which party sits in the white people’s house in Washington DC., we understand that local and international repression and violence will continue unabated unless we unite and organize.
The struggle against imperialism must continue until all colonized and oppressed people are free! Until all political prisoners are at home! Until all occupied lands–from Lenapehoking and Palestine to Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to Puerto Rico, Haiti to the Philippines–are returned! Until all people have access to the basic human rights of housing, food, clean water, free healthcare and education!
