More than 500 Fort Drum community members got pretty in pink, bathed in blue and were going green at Division Hill on July 26 when they were showered in bright colors during the Color the Mountain fun run.

Hosted by the Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers and Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation staff, the annual color run is a popular summer event at Fort Drum. (Photo by Mike Strasser, Fort Drum Garrison Public Affairs)

The Community Cycling Center depends on volunteers to help them help others.

Tonight the volunteers got some recognition for their efforts. Food, and prizes, and good conversation was enjoyed by all.

So, get out there! VOLUNTEER!

Community Service Hero, Organization: Everybody Solar

Youness Scally, a San Francisco resident, is the cofounder of Everybody Solar and is accepting the award. In 2011, Youness Scally had an idea to help agencies that couldn’t afford it to go solar. After thoughtful analysis, the decision was made to work with non-profits to maximize their effect in their communities, and from this, Everybody Solar was born. As the idea blossomed further, Youness compelled two of his siblings to become involved. Since then, Everybody Solar has obtained 501(c)(3) non-profit status, hosted several fundraising events, written grants and successfully launched projects. Their first project was with Rebuilding

Together Peninsula, a non-profit that helps families rebuild or fix their homes.

Currently they are finishing a secondary project with Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles, an agency that works with formerly gang-associated individuals.

Everybody Solar’s mission is to protect the environment and strengthen U.S. communities through solar energy projects. By providing solar power to local charities, the organization helps them reduce electricity costs and direct their limited resources to the communities they serve. Everybody Solar believes that everyone has the right to affordable energy and clean air.

This session featured nearly one hundred posters that showcased community-engaged activities at UMass Boston, and celebrate the efforts and achievements of faculty, staff, and community partners. Each year the poster showcase provides an excellent opportunity to learn about existing efforts, make new connections, and build stronger collaborations.
