"A silence already filled with noises,
A canvas on which emerges
A chorus of smiles, a winter morning." ~ John Ashbery
A view of Hooton train station on the Merseyrail Chester Line. An irritating cancelation during the morning commute on a sub zero morning gave me time to route out an angle or two if only to keep warm. Either way it was a cracking morning.

We use to swim here in the summers in the early 1960's...A lot of good memories. There is a quiet basin up from what you see in the picture; and there is a small waterfall to the right that had many ledges to jump off of into the water. It's illegal now to even hike there; which is sad since it is a beautiful place.

Rain doesn’t ask.
It settles into feathers, into bone, into whatever patience is left.
He stands through it.
Because leaving would mean choosing something worse.

Saw this chalkboard drawing at Starbucks last Sunday. Actually, this is perfect for the upcoming weekend. Not only is Valentine’s Day on Sunday, but Lubbock is expecting snow and record cold weather due to the polar vortex. Temperatures here are expected to go below zero, which hasn’t happened in Lubbock since 1989. We could all use a cup of something nice and warm!
The Big Freeze of January 2009 brought the UK to a standstill for somedays. We were ill-prepared and forgot that it could snow so much.

The sun is rising through trees as mist rises from the surface of the River Thames near Boulters Lock Weir. A retired police launch is moored on a small landing stage and there are perfect reflections in the water. Low angle photograph.
Just uploaded this for the record as not the best shot!

Male Bluebird in snow, it was snowing lightly but this Bluebird looks unhappy. There is a mound of snow near his feet giving a foggy appearance.
Makes me hope that winter isn't quite done with this city just yet.
My Pentax 6x7 caught a bit of a flu bug it seems during this last bout of cold weather and has to go in to the camera doctor. Wish her well.

Peter Lik posted a great photo from Central Park today. He reminded us to grab a camera and go out, no matter what the weather is. In New York State that means a constant change in conditions. I'm glad I went out for photos instead of waiting for a nicer day.

This is the Lemhi River out Highway 28 towards the town of Lemhi (which is really just a general store/post office like most "towns" out that way).
Part of the pond was still frozen after the temperature plummeted over the last few days - it's on its way back up now though. Throwing out some scraps of bread brought the gulls down to fight over it - giving me time to fire off a few shots.

We use to swim here in the 1960's in the summertime...(The water moved a lot slower in the summer)......There were rock ledges all around this that you could jump or dive from..............It's now illegal to swim there with a hefty fine....The ledges were from 20 feet to almost 80 feet (The "Killer" was the name of the 80ft ledge)) You found out about aerodynamics when you jumped of the "Killer".. I remember it fondly. .Wish someone took my picture...........GERONIMO!!!!!!!!!!
