New Year's day was really chilly along the shore at the mouth of the Fraser River. Mount Baker looms to the south east across the line in the US. Season, time of day and constantly variable weather and lighting on the west coast makes this massive mountain a dynamic photographic subject.
A few days off Flicker as I recovered from food poisoning - surely one of these would have been a better murder weapon?
Temperatures are milder - sometimes even above freezing. We're making sure we all keep a safe distance from overhangs as huge shards of ice regularly drop off.
It was a cold and frosty morning in Central Park, Scunthorpe on 13th December 2014. Not a cloud in the sky all day - a classic crisp winters day
Don't let a little rain obstruct your view.
Keep going.

Will & Grace...
...not just a TV show!
Finally!! - We finally got some snow! But, with it came ice.
I'm amazed at the 'will and grace' with which this tree stands so elegantly, covered in snow and ice, and yet she insists on showing her strength and beauty in spite of adversity.

After nearly two straight weeks of sub-freezing temperatures, the Chicago River looked gorgeous as ever.

The metal spout of a small mountain spring in the Circo de Gredos in early May, with the water frozen despite the clear sky. This area of the Serra de Gredos, of granitic origin, features a glacial cirque shaped during the Quaternary glaciations; even after spring has begun in the valleys, the altitude and exposure keep nighttime temperatures below 0 °C. The visible ice results from cycles of daytime thawing and nighttime refreezing, common in periglacial environments, which also accelerate iron corrosion and rock fracturing due to frost heave. Springs and water troughs like this one are simple structures, historically used by shepherds and today by hikers, collecting water from seepage and snowmelt. The scene underscores the persistence of winter at high elevations and the need for thermal and water planning on mountain crossings.
Although there hasn't been a lot of ice and snow around these parts so far this winter, the weather has been pretty bleak at times with plenty of cold, dark, wet and windy days. Time for some winter warmth…

The Snowflakes in our garden are really starting to come out and spruce things up a bit.
But with all the rain and cold weather we keep getting it makes it rather difficult to do my part of sprucing up the gardens when the weekends finally get here,

It's not often the birds will double up at the suet feeder like this. Perhaps it was the drastic change in our weather today, as temperatures started to plummet that caused this behavior?
The Wren decided the Downy Woodpecker was taking way too much time at the feeder and couldn't wait any longer.

11:30 in the morning (according to the tower clock) at Stedham Church in the fast thawing snow.
On Mill Lane in Stedham Village near Midhurst, West Sussex.
The tower dates back to 1673 but there has been a church on this site since 1040. The present structure (with the exception of the tower) was built in 1850 by Joseph Butler of Chichester in the Gothic style. It is a Grade II listed building.
