Paseos en invierno por la Vega de Granada

The last few days have been amazing fun; I was lucky enough to spend this weekend at Breckenridge for the Dew Tour. I saw old friends, friends I haven't seen in way too long, friends I thought I'd never see, and made a boatload of new friends. Throw in some snow and wood planks, and you have yourself a winning combination.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Lots of pics to come :)

More than £120,000 is being spent to improve the play area in Greenfield Memorial Gardens in Haslingden as part of Rossendale Council's Play Strategy.

The Big Lottery, Lancashire County Council Playbuilders, Lancashire Small Sites Reclamation Programme and Rossendale Council have jointly funded the scheme which will bring a range of new play facilities for toddlers right up to children aged around 13.

The improvements include new and more adventurous play equipment, woodland paths with picnic tables and an embankment slide and a sport wall. There will also be new seating throughout the gardens and the bowling green will also be fully fenced to discourage improper use of the area.

Amelia Dew, of Groundwork Pennine Lancashire, who is leading on the project, said: "The new equipment will give children a much more adventurous and natural play environment. We undertook community consultation last spring and have taken the results in to consideration to try and give all sectors and ages of the community a say in how their space should be designed"

Cllr Peter Steen , Environment Portfolio holder for Rossendale Council added: "The Council is very pleased to be able to contribute to the improvements in the play facilities on offer in the gardens. This is part of an ongoing programme of work right across the borough to provide new and improved play facilities."

The Pyrenees also spelled Pyrenées Spanish: Pirineos; French: Pyrénées; Catalan: Pirineus; Occitan: Pirenèus; Aragonese: Perinés; Basque: Pirinioak are a range of mountains in southwest Europe that form a natural border between France and Spain. They separate the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of continental Europe, and extend for about 430 km. For the most part, the main crest forms a massive divider between France and Spain, with the tiny country of Andorra sandwiched in between. The Col d'Aubisque above is a mountain pass in the Pyrenees 30km south of Tarbes and Pau in the department of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the Aquitaine region of France. The Aubisque is one of those hors catégorie cols that make the legend of the Tour de France.

We were high up in the Pyrenees at the top of the Col d'aubisque even higher at 1,750 m. The weather had been cold, cold enough for snow on the top of the mountains. The white mountain tops are reaching here higher than 2600 meters. The highest peak in the Pyrenees is 3,404 meters high. My wife Kanitha is walking in front of me through the Col d'Aubisque mountain pass on her way to the viewpoint.

On a day that started out with a beautiful sunrise, we suddenly found tiny snowflakes floating down, so we abandoned our planned walk in the Royal Gardens. Instead I took this picture of the approach to the Castle, shrouded in a light shroud of mist.

A wonderful winter walk with wonderful Friends - Foggy X-Mas Times... .. .

A cold and frosty spell back in December 2022. A few day of freezing fog gave way one day to bright sunshine and everywhere covered in a hoar frost - including these oak leaves on a tree in Central Park, Scunthorpe UK.

This week's Remembrance Day is on Thursday & Remebrance Sunday three days later.

This Southport shot is from 2019 and I can imagine the amount of thought, care, time and trouble that this dear old lady put into dressing so appropriately for Remembrance Sunday.

What I can't imagine is what she may have lived though, what she's witnessed, experienced, etc -- nor what she was remembering/thinking as I took this shot.

This is Cooper, my cockapoo. Today is day two of my 365 day project. It was an unpleasant day with cold weather and sleet, but we still went outside together. Despite the conditions, Cooper stayed curious and alert, standing strong in the forest. You will definitely be seeing Cooper many more times throughout this year as he becomes a regular part of this project.

Snow muted everything as the narrow path curved into the timber, banks piled high on either side like the world had been gently shoveled into silence; the trees leaned in heavy with fresh powder, their branches stitched in frost, and somewhere ahead two small lanterns burned—steady, warm dots in the blue-gray dusk—making the road feel less like a place you got lost and more like a place you were being quietly guided back to, one careful step at a time.

I have envisioned before I went back to Tahoe to photograph this location with blue skies and whispy white clouds, well that was not to be this time around. Maybe next time?

This is the Howden Reservoir, the smallest of the three 'lakes' in the Upper Derwent Valley in the Peak District. The snow had gone - for now - but the lake was still frozen at the northern most tip where the river Derwent flows into the reservoir. The river has actually been tamed by three dams. The water is used to supply much of the drinking water for the East Midlands and the valley is also home to a host of recreation activities - including a place for my photography. For those of you who like details, the trees on the left of the image are in the Sheffield district of South Yorkshire while those on the right are part of Derbyshire - the county boundary runs along the middle of this reservoir.

This year has truly been something else. On multiple occasions, I have had friends and family tell me that if they were watching a movie of my life, they wouldn't believe it -- they would think it's too farfetched. But, no, that was my 2012. Full of 'one step forward and 20 steps back' moments, haha. Life has enjoyed testing me this year :) Yesterday, I finally saw the light at the end of this "tunnel." I am so thankful for the amazing people I have around me and that I was raised to keep going no matter what, not analyze life too much, and trust that things will [eventually] work out for people who work hard and refuse to give up.

They did.

I danced in my car, screamed at my computer (happily! Thank you, Getty!), laughed so hard I got a stomach ache, and was thankful to be alive for another day, and such a great day at that! Life doesn't always make sense when it's happening, I think it rarely ever does, but sooner or later you get "aha!" moments that make all the questionable ones fall into place. I will end my buddha speech here. I am thrilled to be heading into 2013 and have a bright future ahead. Phew! :)

Thank you to everyone on flickr who has been a fan. Your comments always make me smile, and it's great to be able to share a smile with you; photography is wonderful. 2012 is not over yet, but yesterday, and this past week in general, made all of it worthwhile. Finally. Happy happy happy.

:D

Leicester Square, London, England, United Kingdom. Saturday 17th January 2015, around noon.

About the photograph.

With apologise to the lady in the photo, I have no idea what her name is. I did ask her for permissions to take photos and publish them, but I may have failed to ask her for her first name. If I did ask her, I may have failed to note down her name.

I was doing a photography project called Windy Street, as explained below, under the section heading of About the project.

She was the second person whom I approached, and asked if she have any objections to my taking photos of her for my project. She agreed and let me take the photos.

This was taken at approximately the north-east corner of the park at Leicester Square, in the background is the ODEON Luxe Leicester Square cinema.

I think she is a flyer / leaflet distributor, she was there to hand out leaflets about a show or an event, to members of the public. You can see what looks like leaflets or booklet in her hand. I believe she had that rose with her as part of an attraction, to draw attention to her.

At that time I took the photograph, it was a very cold weather, being in January. Here, you see she wears medium length fur coat fastened with buttons, a twisted scarf possibility made of wool, and ear muffins to keep her ears warm.

About the project.

The project called Windy Street, was to try to create some kind of an article about women’s winter fashion, focused on fur coats, with photos of real women as opposite to booked models.

The article was supposed to be a blog or a gallery, maybe try to get it published in a magazine or write a book about it.

The plan was to go to major cities like London, Birmingham, Cardiff, and anywhere like that. Go to main busy streets or plazas during the winter months. The aim was to be on the outlook for any women wearing a winter outfit including a fur coat, approach them, and explain that I’m a photographer doing a project.

I explained to them that I want to take photos of women whom are members of the public, not professional models. I explained that I wish to take photos of real life women wearing the outfits, to illustrate the reality of their fashion style.

Catwalk models may display an amazing looking outfit, but the design of the outfit often changes between the catwalk display to the actual production line. The project was to show the fur coats and the outfits as worn by members of the public, rather than as worn by catwalk models or professional models. To showcase the difference between design stage, adverting, and reality.

On that day of the photographs, I was in London. The first person I approached was a couple, a guy and a woman in a cream coloured fur coat. I told her about my project and asked her for permissions to take photos of her. She agreed, and I even asked the man who was with her, if he would not mind being in the photo too, he even agreed.

The Lady with the Rose, or the Rose Lady, was the second person I approached.

But at that time in 2015, I struggled with the project. Part of the reason was my self-confidence was down, but the main reason was because I was a busy full-time single parent and full-time carer. It was often difficult to get the ex-wife to agree to have both of the kids for the day, so I could go and do photo-shoots.

My project kind of stalled at first, then I kind of put it on the back burner while I do other projects, finally decided to shelf the project.
