A leaf blower is kind of like a snow blower, right? Two to three inches of overnight snow in Memphis, Tennessee, meant some folks had to get creative.

The winter is not over yet in the Netherlands. A snowstorm packing strong winds and moving over the melting hummocky ice. This snowstorm is unfolding across the IJsselmeer with possible inches of snow or hale! I sense the storm's approach. It also has such a solitary feeling very Outer Limits or Twilight Zone feeling. The last ray of sunlight is beaming on the skyscrapers of Almere on the other side of the IJmeer. During the month January and February thousands of geese can be found here in Waterland. The Dutch IJsselmeer lake is covered with icerocks hummocks, caused by the cold weather of the passed days. At some places even higher than 6 meter! Storm surges were advancing threat of drifting ice-floes can cause dyke failure. But the icebreakers, that have – more often than not – protected these dykes and clustered houses from the threat of drifting ice-floes during strong winters. Scary but breath taking...

For outdoor lovers the dykes from Durgerdam to Marken offers an unforgetable rural route of about 10 km along IJsselmeer. In de wintertime it takes you along the hummocky ice to the famous lighthouse of Marken called 'the Horse'. Photo taken on the dyke near the Pittoresque village of Uitdam. A scary snowstorm is appoaching while the last ray of sunlight is beaming on the skyscrapers of Almere.

I've edited the color temperature in PS. Cooling it down seems better to me. Because the original was pasted on a new layer flickr shows that this is taken today. It isn't, this is from Saturday's series.

spring is coming , and as we are welcoming the warmer temperatures i am showing this photo to you ... as a good memory to my trip trough Yakutia on the Road of bones ... after sunset we could see these superb colors low fogg and the cold blue colors on the snow , that really reflects the actual temperature we had .. around -45 ..

It was cold and I thought this coot looked cute as it puffed up to stay warm so I took its photo.

The last few days have been amazing fun; I was lucky enough to spend this weekend at Breckenridge for the Dew Tour. I saw old friends, friends I haven't seen in way too long, friends I thought I'd never see, and made a boatload of new friends. Throw in some snow and wood planks, and you have yourself a winning combination.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Lots of pics to come :)

Luosto is a picturesque ski village with a surprisingly large number of accommodations. Although there are a few hotels, you'll mostly find cozy bungalows here. Luosto is nestled in the heart of Pyhä-Luosto National Park, surrounded by ancient forests, rugged gorges, and peat bogs. It's a unique piece of nature rarely seen in our part of Europe. Finnish Lapland is far to the north, so there's usually plenty of snow here. Luosto offers a stunning landscape for adventurous activities and the opportunity to enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the Finnish wilderness. Our plan is to climb the spectacular fell (mountain). As we step out of the car, it feels like nature here is in a deep winter sleep. Our hike begins at dawn in the remote hamlet of Ukko-Luostontien. In Lapland, the colors of the sky during sunrise and sunset can be very intense due to the low position of the sun on the horizon. The long twilight periods can create unique colors in the sky, including green hues, due to various scattering effects of sunlight. The trees gently bend under the weight of the snow.

We walk along the ridge of the fells of Ukko-Luosto, passing through the surrounding primeval forest. The summer path to the top is closed due to avalanche danger, so we continue our journey and attempt to reach the summit via the northern ridge of Ukko-Luosto. The path ascends steeply through the enchanting ancient forests, where the trees covered in crown snow look magical. The last section to the top of the mountain has snow too deep for us. The path winds its way to the top of Pikku-Luosto Fell. We sink in and have to crawl to the top. Snowshoes are definitely necessary here. In the impressive Ukko-Luosto Scenic Hut, we can take a break, warm up, and admire the magnificent view. It's terribly cold up here on the 514-meter-high mountain, partly due to the biting polar wind. The sun reaches its highest point on this short January day and shines beautifully just over the mountain's peak. There's also a solar halo visible, an optical phenomenon caused by the refraction, reflection, and scattering of light by ice crystals in the atmosphere. We thaw out a bit and rest before starting our return journey. Walking in the snow is exhausting. We take the same route back because we don't want to get stuck in deep snow and aim to be back in Luosto before dark. In total, we walked more than 18,000 steps, but we enjoyed this special place in Lapland. In Luosto, we treated ourselves to delicious reindeer jerky and panna cotta, while BieJee savored a reindeer burger.

More than £120,000 is being spent to improve the play area in Greenfield Memorial Gardens in Haslingden as part of Rossendale Council's Play Strategy.

The Big Lottery, Lancashire County Council Playbuilders, Lancashire Small Sites Reclamation Programme and Rossendale Council have jointly funded the scheme which will bring a range of new play facilities for toddlers right up to children aged around 13.

The improvements include new and more adventurous play equipment, woodland paths with picnic tables and an embankment slide and a sport wall. There will also be new seating throughout the gardens and the bowling green will also be fully fenced to discourage improper use of the area.

Amelia Dew, of Groundwork Pennine Lancashire, who is leading on the project, said: "The new equipment will give children a much more adventurous and natural play environment. We undertook community consultation last spring and have taken the results in to consideration to try and give all sectors and ages of the community a say in how their space should be designed"

Cllr Peter Steen , Environment Portfolio holder for Rossendale Council added: "The Council is very pleased to be able to contribute to the improvements in the play facilities on offer in the gardens. This is part of an ongoing programme of work right across the borough to provide new and improved play facilities."

The Pyrenees also spelled Pyrenées Spanish: Pirineos; French: Pyrénées; Catalan: Pirineus; Occitan: Pirenèus; Aragonese: Perinés; Basque: Pirinioak are a range of mountains in southwest Europe that form a natural border between France and Spain. They separate the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of continental Europe, and extend for about 430 km. For the most part, the main crest forms a massive divider between France and Spain, with the tiny country of Andorra sandwiched in between. The Col d'Aubisque above is a mountain pass in the Pyrenees 30km south of Tarbes and Pau in the department of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the Aquitaine region of France. The Aubisque is one of those hors catégorie cols that make the legend of the Tour de France.

We were high up in the Pyrenees at the top of the Col d'aubisque even higher at 1,750 m. The weather had been cold, cold enough for snow on the top of the mountains. The white mountain tops are reaching here higher than 2600 meters. The highest peak in the Pyrenees is 3,404 meters high. My wife Kanitha is walking in front of me through the Col d'Aubisque mountain pass on her way to the viewpoint.

On a day that started out with a beautiful sunrise, we suddenly found tiny snowflakes floating down, so we abandoned our planned walk in the Royal Gardens. Instead I took this picture of the approach to the Castle, shrouded in a light shroud of mist.

A cold and frosty spell back in December 2022. A few day of freezing fog gave way one day to bright sunshine and everywhere covered in a hoar frost - including these oak leaves on a tree in Central Park, Scunthorpe UK.

This week's Remembrance Day is on Thursday & Remebrance Sunday three days later.

This Southport shot is from 2019 and I can imagine the amount of thought, care, time and trouble that this dear old lady put into dressing so appropriately for Remembrance Sunday.

What I can't imagine is what she may have lived though, what she's witnessed, experienced, etc -- nor what she was remembering/thinking as I took this shot.

The Little Blue Heron was taking advantage of the cold weather stalking minnows and small frogs who were slowed down by the cold.

This is Cooper, my cockapoo. Today is day two of my 365 day project. It was an unpleasant day with cold weather and sleet, but we still went outside together. Despite the conditions, Cooper stayed curious and alert, standing strong in the forest. You will definitely be seeing Cooper many more times throughout this year as he becomes a regular part of this project.

I have envisioned before I went back to Tahoe to photograph this location with blue skies and whispy white clouds, well that was not to be this time around. Maybe next time?
