My husband and I considered this little black dress as perfect for me to wear to Royal Ascot a few years ago. We thought it would attract exactly the kind of attention we both wanted me to receive, as part of my plan (as it was then) to return to my former career as a high-class escort and call girl.
Unfortunately, our plan was unworkable, as the Royal Enclosure at Ascot requires all ladies to wear long-sleeved dresses! My hubby and I thought this a great shame, as we both felt that this tiny LBD showed off my long legs rather nicely - and it looked awfully cute with the addition of a big picture hat!
Oh well - we mustn't cry over spilt milk! My hubby found many other ways to exhibit his newlywed Duchess in public. My husband has always been such a wonderful ally in promoting my scandalous career!

The classic Theory of the Leisure Class (1899) by the Norvegian-American sociologist and economist Thorstein Veblen is certainly still relevant today, perhaps even more so than a century ago, and not only in the western world...
Although taken on the Bluebell Railway in Sussex, O2 class No. 24 Calbourne could easily be about to depart on a service train on the Isle of Wight, as there is very little to suggest this is Horsted Keynes station.

In the late 1980s many British Rail DMUs were replaced by the Class 150 which was produced by BREL, its own trainmaking company.
Competition for this contract was provided by Metro-Cammell of Washwood Heath, Birmingham, who made a pair of Class 151s for evaluation. These were unsuccessful, but continued in BR service for a while before being withdrawn in 1989.

British Railways Class 14 diesel hydraulic D9516 in the shed yard at Loughborough.
The Class 14s were the last class of engines built at Swindon in 1964 and were one of the few BR diesels built to a common steam design. They were designed for freight service work on rural lines and also for the South Wales coalfields. They were suitable for trip working as well as the shunting, hence the four-character route indicators. Although a large number were allocated to South Wales the work for them diminished and most were transferred to Hull Dairycoates, but only for a short time before being withdrawn as surplus to requirements. Within four years from new these modern 650 h.p. diesels were mostly sold to British Steel, Corby and the National Coal Board, Ashington.
D 9516 to Cardiff Canton, October 1964 (new); to Landore Swansea, May 1965; to Hull, December 1966; to British Steel as No.56, November 1968; Great Central Railway, October 1981 (initially as spare parts for D 9523); to Wansford, November 1988.

158790 cruises over Ribblehead Viaduct, with the 2H12 0748 Leeds to Carlisle service - 18/06/2021.
The last shot I took on our holiday in Ribblehead, before the long journey home. It was nice to grab the last train in sunshine. I remember we arrived at Ribblehead in thick fog & you couldn't see either the viaduct or the pub! This was probably the best holiday we have ever had there. We definitely went at the right time of year. The weather was a lot better this time & I certainly didn't regret missing the 'Staycation Express' in 2021!

Resident Class 31 D5631 approaches Dead Man's Hill on the North Norfolk Railway, with the 1400 Sheringham to Holt demonstration goods train - 06/04/2024.
Another enjoyable day spent back up at the North Norfolk Railway, this time for the 60th Anniversary of Closure event.
This train was my number one photographic target of the day, as I had never seen the demonstration goods train in action before.
I didn't think I had much chance of a sunny shot to be honest, as the cloud cover proved to be very stubborn to clear on this visit to the North Norfolk coast. However, I did get a bit of weak sun at this spot, just as the train passed by.
