Here, I had gone into my other favorite spot well before the last light of the day, when I observed this little egret flying near by; I quickly got my camera to focus on her movements. Suddenly, with spreading wings, she (he) was right next to me… I got such a fright with the unexpected appearance that after photographing her I lost my balance and I fell on my butt, without anything to soften the fall. lol! It was an embarrassing situation but when I saw that the little egret was also in a similar situation in the bushy bougainville, I could only fall in to a fit of laughter! It was a moment of bizarre complicity but entertaining. On this occasion, one of my 2Xteleconverters was hooked in my belt and it was broken by my fall. >< ah... nothing comes free! lol

o inesperado... ♫

A small waterfall just above the trestle bridge on the rail trail at Hawk's Nest State Park in West Virginia.

Another image from our sunrise shoot at Mesa Arch...I know the sunburst is in the middle but moving in any direction wasn't much of an option...at least until later. Many people make this sunrise pilgramage...just like this morning...it may not have been quite as crowded as some mornings but at least 25 people I would say and this area isn't as big as one would think...

This building, and the welcoming volunteer, set up this scene that caught my eye while we were putting on the miles walking around Lisbon, Portugal.

I modified the perspective-lines of the building to straighten things as best I could; the gent was on the second floor.

Everything about you is how I wanna be

Your freedom comes naturally

Everything about you resonates happiness

Now I won't settle for less

Conditions were looking decent this morning as I passed through so I stopped off for a few exposures. It was nice to roll through well after sunrise for a slightly different take.

I just loved how the light was coming through the tops of the trees above and lighting up just small sections of Panther Creek Falls yesterday morning. I think the job of the photographer is to create an emotional connection to place and time using light and a combination of objects, arranging them in a way to maximize the impact of that emotional connection. Does this do it for you? And, it is OK if you say no.

I shot this zoomed in photo of Panther Creek Falls using my Nikon 70-200 at 85mm, f/8, and 30 seconds with a 9-stop ND filter and a Circular Polarizer filter stacked together. Overkill for a long exposure? Probably so, but I only have a 9-stop ND.

The three photos today are all using two new filters: a graduated ND and a circular polarizer. I think the combination is really helping to pull out more detail and color from the reflections.

Just ran into this horizontal comp from the off the charts sunrise at Convict Lake in the Eastern Sierra. Certainly one of the best sunrises I've ever seen.

Hope you enjoy!

I took a similar shot a ways back from this footbridge in Allston. I decided to take another crack at it now that I have the proper filter to shoot the cars at ISO100. This isn’t one image, but there were no digital post process effects whatsoever, as I used natural optical filter effects to create this image.

The sun sets on a glorious winter's day and illuminates the face of the Lilburn Tower at the northern end of Dunstanburgh Castle, Northumberland.

The small 'lake' on the right hand side is actually a flooded field (I think) after all the rain that has soaked Northern Britain over the last few weeks!

Winter visit to Concrete City with my photographer friends: Marty Straub and Curtis Salonick. Not a bad day after all; we didn't freeze and managed to capture some images!

Ramsauer Ache, flowing from Hintersee through the Zauberwald, Ramsau bei Berchtesgaden, Bavaria, Germany. Taken during early Autumn.

Mostly one bracket processed with AuroraHDR, with just a touch from a second exposure to widen the DoF slightly.

Point Diablo and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) west of the Golden Gate Bridge. Bright blue sky fades to dark water and dense fog. From 2012, on a small boat on outer San Francisco Bay.

This was right outside our house and was the backdrop for many photo shoots. Tried to get a sunrise through it but a) the mornings were cloudy, and b) waking up at 6am is WAY too early when you are on holiday.

I guess the DOF is too shallow after all. I did this on purpose but maybe I was wrong. A few more details in the background could have been interesting.

This is another shot taken close to the previous one on an early autumn morning on the way to work somewhere between Unterjesingen and Tübingen in the Ammertal. I was lucky to be right in place for the sunrise and this – at least to me: impressive – “fireball”.

The picture was taken in three single frames. Two Hitech Reverse ND Grad filters (0.6 and 0.9) were attached to the lens to darken the rising sun and to balance the exposure as well as a Lee Circular Polarizing filter to strengthen the colours a bit. I focused on the background and then tilted down the lens for about one degree to bring the foreground in focus as well. To capture this panoramic view, the lens was shifted to the left and to the right for about 10 degrees each way. During the post-processing, I slightly edited the images in Adobe Camera Raw, stitched them together in Adobe Photoshop and applied some adjustments concerning contrast, details and noise reduction.

I've gone F&F for a lot of my shots and soon the "Pro Status" on this account will expire on November 8, 2010. I'll probably keep it up for a few tutorial photos that still get a lot of hits and faves. Plus, I have a thread in one of my favorite groups that I have to finish. I'm tired of the "Nieblung" name and since I used it for the main the URL, I can't change it. So it's onto a new Flickr page. (See Below)

I joined Flickr in 2007 as a way to share my photographs and to get feedback on my shots. I recently passed 100,000+ hits to my stream which I thought was kind of neat. Along the way I've made a few friends and even a lost a couple. I thought it would be really great to get into Flickr's Explore, and I did...23 times. Still waiting to complete that 3rd row on my "Explore Banner" with #24. Oh well.

I saw a photograph tonight taken by someone that I personally know and it just completely Blew. Me. Away. If their photo doesn't hit Explore, then Flickr is fatally flawed. It was then realized that I have so much to learn and really need to save money for gear. :) It seems that I just keep shooting the same subjects with the same edits and the same mistakes. I'm just not happy with any of my photographs.

I'm also wrestling with my camera again; buying the D200 was a BIG mistake. The technology was just too old when I bought it new and I really should have at least purchased a D300 or gone straight to a D700. I can't stand not going above ISO 400, the banding issues, the rubber coming loose because of the crappy glue that Nikon used, amongst other things. They fixed all of these problems with the D300. Even with ETTR to help compensate, my photos are way too noisy for even Noiseware to help. But back then as it is now, money was a factor. It really sucks being a single parent and not having the cash for gear. I know that the most important part of the camera is the photographer, but let's face it...having f/2.8 glass and a high quality body makes things a lot easier.

As far as future plans, I've created another Flickr account but haven't posted anything there just yet. I really need to work on my craft and develop my style. With the fall season coming up, I might get the photo-bug again and post a few shots. Or I might just sell all of my gear out-right on Craigslist! LOL!!

But for now, I'm packing it up and pulling an "Ironman." Meaning I'm heading back to my super-secret lab to re-invent the way I do things. If anyone wants to get a hold of me, drop me a Flickr-Mail...my inbox is always open.

I'm sure I'll be in touch with my "regulars" and friends to keep them posted, if they are interested.
