What a superb day! Warm as summer, but without the bite. Golden light, deep blue skies, golden trees. Autumn at its best! Shot out of camera, colors rendered deep by a circular polarizer and a ND8 filter.

this is the historical Patowmack Canal in Great Falls National Park in McLean, Virginia...but this area is actually along the Great Falls, Maryland side of the canal...construction of this historical canal began in 1785 and took 17 years to complete it...we were actually headed down this path to photograph the Great Falls of the Potomac River but halfway down the path, some fast moving storm clouds rolled right in and looked very ominous so we decided to backtrack towards the car...lucky we did coz as soon as we left the lot, it started to pour down heavily...plan to go back some other time though to get some nice pictures of the Great Falls so stay tuned...pls. just another long exposure reflection shot of the National Monument and the World War 2 Memorial mirrored on the surface of the Reflecting Pool in DC...the clouds really added a lot of interest here and the reflections look very painterly due to the long exposure...i'm planning to head out by the National Monument this afternoon to capture some zombies during DC's own version of the Zombie Walk...hope the rains stay away until tomorrow...pls. Kehoe Beach, Point Reyes Nation Seashore.

After a few weeks of clear skies, a storm finally makes its way over Northern California. Kehoe is quickly becoming one of my favorite beaches. The warm sand, interesting low rocks, heavy surf and somewhat easy access really makes this a great place. This was my second time out on this beach, both times all by myself. It really is a odd feeling not seeing anyone in every direction you look (just doesn't seem to happen much in California.)

this was from last weekend's sunset captured down by Olive Park using the granite surface as a reflective surface...i was glad that i was able to get several decent sunset images with the skyline because just minutes from taking this particular shot, a thick and fast moving fog swallowed up the city skyline and ruined our plans of some blue hour and night captures of the skyline from this vantage point...pls. With the strong ambient light and the sun peaking the horizon, the only way to slow down the water and get these reflections, was with the B+W 10 stop neutral density filter stacked with the Singh-Ray Color Intensifier and a Circular Polarizer (which is what a ColorCombo is). This image goes to my Flickr brother Cimarrón Mayor. He is someone who I am looking forward for shoot with. I invite you to visit his stream and see his amazing collection of birds, simply phenomenal.

I spent a week in Poulsbo, Washington for a work related training. I had the evenings to myself so I decided to venture to Fort Worden State Park, about an hour north of where I was staying to get some sunset shots on the beach. It was pouring rain at the time, so my fingers were crossed that I would get a good sunset. Mother nature did not disappoint.

My sunglasses laying on a rattan beach chair next to the Caribbean. I had noticed several times the killer reflections in them, but early on my last morning the sun was in the perfect position for a nice reflected flare with the sweep of the Caribbean beyond. I had to really fight the glare in PP, but the am pleased with the final image. Puerto Morelos, Mexico - Mexican Caribbean.

Headed out early through a very busy Port of Oakland on a gorgeous morning.

313/366: Focus With Photographs

Some days I lack words for the beauty in front of me. Some days I lack words for the ugliness in front of me. Today is one of those days. So I’ll just leave you with this picture of fourmile falls in Pagosa Springs Colorado (a 6 mile round trip hike to this beautiful waterfall) and a thought that a friend recently shared with me.

This bald faced hornet flew into my truck today while I was cruising down the road. He took a pretty good blow evidently, because he was pretty much on his last legs by the time I got home. It did make him very easy to photograph though, as I placed him inside of this pumpkin blossom for a little color. I left him outside on this blossom just in case he comes to his senses and decides to fly away.

I drove out to Hinckley Reservoir tonight to catch a sunset, but soon it became apparent that Mother Nature wasn't going to cooperate. I went a little farther east to Blue Hen Falls and took a few shots with the new wide angle lens before it got too dark.
