This was a Burger Chef and later a Hardee's until sometime in the mid-1990s; I think it might have closed before the 1997 mass exodus of many a Hardee's location. It spent some time as a National City bank, and for some reason National City spent almost no money remodeling the exterior. The bank apparently closed before the name change to PNC, and a tailor shop now occupies the building.

I may well become a chef. It's a possible career for me. Please note I did not make any of the pictured dishes.

Chef. It's a perfect example of a predictable movie done right and extremely well. Chef is pretty much Jon Favreau's attempt to go back to his indie roots, the earlier days in his career, when he made movies like Swingers. This is a small movie that came out last year, didn't get much recognition or attention and was one of the best films to be released in 2014. It's just really fantastic.
Carl Casper is, well, a chef. Probably one of the best, most well known chefs in LA, or is it Miami? I think LA. But he's one of those chef's who has grown tired with making the same old shit everyday, and wants to make real food, creative food, artistic food. But he's not able to, he's told to just keep it simple and do whats on the menu because it makes money and people like it. This whole thing is just sort of an allegory for Hollywood and filmmaking, probably Favreau's own film career as a director. And it really works. The food critic is the film critic in this movie, depicted as a snooty, arrogant man who just simply cannot appreciate a fine meal if it sat on his face, blah blah blah. Carl loses his shit and snaps, cussing the critic out - he loses his job and has no choice but to buy a food truck and be independent.
And the movie is awesome. I failed to mention that throughout the movie, Carl is neglecting his son and needs to spend more time with him. Favreau was able to get a good child actor, which is a rarity nowadays. Carl's ex wife is Sofia Vergara, lucky bastard, who is extremely rich and successful on her own, which is nice to see. Their relationship is pretty mature and realistic, they're not a fighting, bickering divorced couple, they manage to be friends. But Carl brings his son along for this road trip experience for a number of weeks, traveling to food hot spots around the country with his food truck and making money. And it's extremely fun, this movie will make you hungry. Warning. Do not watch on an empty stomach. The food they make looks so damn good. And the movie is pretty hilarious. Nothing too original here, as I said in the beginning, this is a pretty typical film in terms of its plot. But this is one that is done damn near perfectly. So everything works.
The movie is available on Netflix right now. Go watch.
