One of my first Italian meals-
In the town with the highest elevation in all of Italy we had a great meal in a small family run restaurant.
The daughter took the order, the younger son brought us our plates of food and the mother cooked the food with the elder son. While in the background, the third son, studied in the rear of the restaurant on one of the tables.
Everything I had imagined eating in Italy to be.

Chef Sanjaya Handapangoda cut his teeth at Lakruwana in midtown Manhattan, which closed down a few years ago. Staten Island’s cheaper rents and existing clientele of Sri Lankan people gave Handapangoda double incentive to open here.
Chef Jan was our neighbor when I was growing up in Ann Arbor. My brother and his son were good friends. Chef Jan's picture is still displayed on the front of China Gate, but I have to wonder if he's retired by now. The most recent award listed for him is 2008, so he was still at it that recently, at least.
