Markarian's Chain, named after the Armenian astrophysicist, B. E. Markarian, is a chain of galaxies that is part of the larger Virgo Supercluster. The Local Group, including the Milky Way Galaxy, is part of this same cluster. This image was taken from my home observatory in Gravois Mills, MO

She stands in the threshold between bondage and becoming—gilded, veiled, and sovereign. The Chain Goddess is no prisoner of metal, but a weaver of myth, cloaked in ceremonial links that shimmer like ancestral vows. Her gaze is both challenge and invitation, a cipher of power forged in ritual and rebellion. This image evokes the sacred tension between constraint and transcendence, where adornment becomes armor and every chain sings of legacy.
Poem: The Chain Goddess
by Timothious
She wears the weight of woven gold,
Not shackled, but in rites enrolled—
Each link a vow, each clasp a flame,
A myth reborn, without a name.
Her eyes are altars, fierce and wide,
Where silence sings and truths reside.
She does not flinch, she does not flee,
She is the lock, she is the key.
The veil she wears is not to hide,
But to reveal what dwells inside.
A thousand chains, a single breath,
She dances on the edge of death.
The metal hums with ancient lore,
Of priestess paths and sacred war.
She walks where gods have dared to tread,
With every step, the past is fed.
Her body, sculpted into rite,
Reflects the stars, absorbs the night.
She is the forge, the flame, the steel,
The mythic truth no chain can seal.
No prison forged could hold her soul,
She bends the links to make them whole.
A tapestry of strength and grace,
She wears her chains like silk and lace.
The watchers hush, the echoes swell,
She is the story none can tell.
Yet in her stance, the tale is sung—
Of battles lost and legends sprung.
She does not beg, she does not plead,
She is the root, she is the seed.
Her chains are wings, her gaze a storm,
She is the myth in human form.
And when the final light descends,
She does not break, she does not bend.
She rises, crowned in forged design,
A goddess born of chain and spine.
So let the world behold her flame—
Not bound, but burning with her name.
The Chain Goddess, fierce and free,
A legacy in symmetry.

The chain is locked behind my back so that I won't be able to reach the padlock. That makes sitting quite uncomfortable, but in court, I'll have to stand before the judge anyhow.
Emblem of the city of Budapest and all Hungary, this bridge named after its 'father' István Széchenyi was the first to cross over the Danube river in the city, avoiding the winter ice and the spring enormous and dangerous flows.
These chains used to be part of the machinery for opening and closing the gates of the sea lock at Portishead in North Somerset. The lock allows access between the Severn Estuary and Portishead dock, once used for industrial purposes but now enjoying a new life as a thriving marina. The lock was completely rebuilt circa 2000* making the old equipment shown here redundant, but the old chains can still be seen, enclosed in a large metal cabinet on the quayside. Photograph made Sunday 27th June 2021.
The photo as shot was a bit under-exposed so I have compensated for that in post-processing. The many little white specks are probably due to mites of dust on the film, but I have not tried to remove them all as I feel that they do not detract from the overall effect. The twigs are 'as found', and not specially placed.
These Chains is a track from the album entitled Radiation by Marillion, originally released in 1998.
* The second largest marina lock in Europe at the time, apparently.

Seen on the front of an old US army Jeep on The Esplanade, Toronto.
The Jeep prototype was built by Bantam in 1940. By the time WW2 ended in 1945, Ford and Willys-Overland had produced close to 3/4 of a million. After the war, Ford stopped producing jeeps but Willys took it to the public, with the CJ version (Civilian Jeep), making it the first mass-produced four-wheel-drive civilian vehicle...............................explore #239

My friend Devon putts with great power and precision. :)
Disc golf is one of the fastest growing sports in the world right now. As golf courses worldwide close down for lack of patronage, disc golf courses are popping up everywhere. While ball golf courses require clear-cut swaths of land, constant watering, fertilizing and maintenance, disc golf course are inexpensive to build, require minimal modifications to the environment, minimal maintenance and can be built almost anywhere. Where golf is often viewed as an elitist activity for it's expensive equipment, fancy golf clubs and wealthy, snooty patrons, disc golf equipment is inexpensive, the courses are by and large free, or nearly free to play, and as many will attest, is equally as fun and challenging as ball golf.

No chains were harmed in the making of this image. Though Devon has a very solid putt, it doesn't usually break chains. To create the broken chain illusion, I isolated the chains from the background, removed the original chains, and then rebuilt them from pieces of the original chains in this configuration. I used a little motion blur on the broken chains. I hand painted in the little swish, just to emphasize that the disc came from Devon's hand.
Not quite christmas but we're getting a head start on the festivities and taking advantage of the school closure. Paper chains, christmas cards and shortbread all round
Today my cousin took a degree in Physiotherapy (I'm so proud of you, Steve!)
So I was just thinking about the fact that I have 2 more years to graduate in Architecture and actually I don't even know if I would like it to be my job. Actually my present dream is becoming a traveling photographer.
Maybe this will never come true, maybe it will remain a "chained dream". But I don't want it to be like this. I would like to have the courage to break this chain...
Happy Bokeh Wednesday, my Flickr Friends and.... view on Black!
I've made some real big mistakes
But you make the worst one look fine
I should've known it was strange
You only come out at night
I used to think I was smart
But you've made me look so naive
The way you sold me for parts
As you sunk your teeth into me, oh
Bloodsucker, famefucker
Bleedin' me dry, like a goddamn vampire.
If a nation values anything more than freedom, it will lose its freedom;
and the irony of it is that if it is comfort or money it values more, it
will lose that, too.

An early morning visit to a very quiet part of Portsmouth. The UK's only island city has such near horizons, so these images (mostly) try to take advantage of a distant one.
Chain link - part of the MOD perimeter fence.
This chain is carved out from a single stone with interlink rings. Amazing stone carving. This is found in the four corners of a Mandapam in Varadaraja Perumal Temple., Kancheepuram.
