Over wintering outside in the NW of the UK, taken after the coldest night this winter ( -9c ) some part of the Uk have seen a temperature as low as -20c so not sure what the over night temperature was in the garden.
Will it survive to the spring perhaps will find out in a few months.
Other chilli plants are over wintering under protection this is an experiment to see if plants can be grown outside in the UK
Update for the last few days the temperature
has been above freezing and there has been no foliage damage apparent

This shot was put together for many reasons. As part of a new blog post, a portfolio addition and also as a saleable image to adorn the walls of kitchens and restaurants. Shot using an Orbis ring flash around the lens and a diffused speedlite from the right hand side. All lighting was triggered with pocket wizard flex units.

genus Capsicum is another amazing plant that was first cultivated in the american continent by the indigenous mexican indians and introduced throughout the world through the galleon trade. before its discovery by europe , the only source of hot spice in asia and europe was from a flowering vine , piperaceae, which produced peppercorn, a native of southwestern india. Upon their introduction into Europe, chilies were grown as botanical curiosities in the gardens of Spanish and Portuguese monasteries. Christian monks experimented with the culinary potential of chili and discovered that their pungency offered a substitute for black peppercorns and the rest is history!
...fanno sempre bene.

I found a whole lot of interesting information in Wikipedia about peppers ~
Capsicum is a genus of flowering plants in the nightshade family, Solanaceae. It's species are native to the Americas, where they have been cultivated for thousands of years. In modern times, it is cultivated worldwide, and has become a key element in many regional cuisines. In addition to use as spices and food vegetables, capsicum has also found use in medicines.
The fruit of Capsicum plants have a variety of names depending on place and type. The piquant (spicy) variety are commonly called chili peppers, or simply "chilies". The large mild form is called red pepper, green pepper or bell pepper in North America and Britain and typically just "capsicum" in New Zealand, Australia, and India. The fruit is called paprika in some other countries (although paprika can also refer to the powdered spice made from various capsicum fruit).
The generic name is derived from the Greek word κάπτω (kapto), meaning "to bite" or "to swallow." The name "pepper" came into use because of their similar flavour to the condiment black pepper, Piper nigrum, although there is no botanical relationship with this plant, or with Sichuan pepper. The original Mexican term, chilli (now chile in Mexico) came from the Nahuatl word chilli or xilli, referring to a larger Capsicum variety cultivated at least since 3000 BC, as evidenced by remains found in pottery from Puebla and Oaxaca.
