Our capsicum plant (leaves and flowers) were stripped by a hungry critter in our garden about three times. We ended up putting a protective barrier around it and they are finally starting to change colour.

They look so pretty mid colour change.

Have a wonderful Thursday !

Chilli pepper is the fruit of plants from the genus Capsicum which are members of the nightshade family, Solanaceae. Chili peppers are widely used in many cuisines as a spice to add heat to dishes. The substances that give chili peppers their intensity when ingested or applied topically are capsaicin and related compounds known as capsaicinoids. Chilli plants produce flowers and then chillies on each of its sidestems. Chillies can be pollinated by bees but failing that, they are also self-pollinating. 20730

The tapering drop-shaped fruits are between 4 and 5 cm long and measure 3.5 cm in diameter.

The Aji Limo changes the color several times until maturity, from white-green to purple, yellow, orange and red everything is there. The very decorative fruits shine strongly and look as if made of porcelain.

The 'sweet pepper', also called 'bell pepper' because of its shape, is a cultivar group of the species 'Capsicum annuum'. It is botanically a fruit but is generally considered in culinary contexts to be a vegetable. Sweet peppers can be found in a rainbow of colors including green, red, orange and more rarely, white, rainbow (between stages of ripening) and purple depending on when they are harvested and the specific cultivar. As a bell pepper ages its flavor becomes sweeter and milder. They are generally available all year round but are more plentiful and less expensive during the summer months.

This photograph was taken at the outdoor market held each Saturday morning in front of the famed 'Ferry Building' at the foot of Market Street in downtown San Francisco, California. The bright colors and increased texture that you see in this photograph were the result of post processing using a plugin to Photoshop CS5 called "Pixel Bender" by Adobe Labs.

My entry for this week's Macro Mondays theme, Vegetables.

Capsicum or Pepper ,known differently in different parts of the world, is technically a fruit (berry), but for all intents and purposes it is used in various dishes as a vegetable around the world.

Although predominantly found in salads, this can be used in curries, pizzas and the awesome deep fried battered snacks in India.

This orientation looked like a cave entrance to me, similar to the Mines of Moria in Lord of the Rings :D

Hence the name!

Colorful red, orange, and yellow bell peppers, the mildest yet still flavorful member of the Capsicum genus. Like their equally seedy cousins tomatoes, bell peppers are technically fruits, even though they're commonly used like vegetables.
