It's a mystery of my palate that, while I'm hyper-sensistive to bitterness (even the lamest beer is unpleasant on my tongue), I really like broccoli rabe. Especially with spicy sausage in a calzone.
Not the loveliest marinara there.

One Awesome Dinner!
Having been so excited to post our photos from our visit with Brian and family, I forgot to post the photos of Dee and my visit to our nation’s capital. So here ya go, we had a wonderful visit to Washington DC. We started out with a private tour of the Capitol, arranged especially for us by Congressman Kevin McCarthy. Our tour started at Congressman McCarthy's office located on the 4th floor of the Rayburn House Office Building, in room 2421. As congress was in session when we arrived, we received a guided tour of the Congressman’s offices and the Capital by a member of Congressman McCarthy’s staff. We even got to sit in the gallery and wittiness Congress in session. After our tour we hit all the memorials and museums possible in 4 days time.
My wife made Calzones for supper this evening. She made a couple ham and spinach and a couple chicken and spinach.
We mapped out a route from Lucca to Pisa to Volterra to make good use of our rented Fiat. The point of the day we arrived in Volterra was when most restaurants and shops were closed but we were lucky enough to stumble across this little place with outdoor seating. The calzones were wonderful.

I made calzone's tonight. Actually, I think they're considered stromboli, since I added the sauce to the inside instead of having it on the side. They were super yummy, but I used the Pillsbury pizza crust which is a little sweeter than I like my crust. Next time, I'll have to make my own or the get the pre-made dough from Trader Joe's.
These have italian sausage, zucchini, mushrooms, parmesan cheese, and sauce. I'm not really a big fan of tomato sauce, so I added some sour cream to tone down the tomato flavor.
Cheesy spinach calzones with a secret ingredient that no one will ever suspect! Not only do they taste super good, they are also extremely good for you. Plus, they are so extremely versatile. You can practically eat them anywhere, anytime! Yes please!
filling: spinach & ricotta with lemon and garlic. dough: from the pizza shop on the corner, rolled out. after forming the calzone i brushed the top with egg wash and sprinkled it with sea salt. bake for 45 minutes.
