Painted as part of Unwellcome Relatives production on Jamaica Street as part of John Nations birthday celebrations. Birthday wishes to John, shouts out to everyone who came by and all Writers in attendance. Special shouts to UR Crew who painted that day and made a great piece (with balloons!) Shab, CageOne, Boswell, Lokey and Pen. A big thank you to Chris and the PRSC for hospitality and having us weirdos paint the wall. Big thanks also to Wayners for arranging this.

I am really happy with how this cake turn out, especially the colour combination.

These clouds were inspired by Crafty Confections - they took a really, really long time to do though! Unicorn was inspired by countless flickr and google images, including JaneBK. I think the birthday girl was very happy :)
I got the excellent recipe for this Korean cake from Zen Kimchi.
I topped mine with organic blackberry and edible flowers from our local farmer's market.
'Enchanted Castle' Cake, made for a Disney Enchanted Forest themed 21st birthday party.
The young lady who this cake was for wanted a castle cake with a difference, where the turrets appeared to be coming out from a garden of flowers, predominantly in pinks and purples. There were roses, Cymbidium Orchids, Lilies, Hydrangeas, plus lots of buds, filler flowers and leaves!
There was also a smaller cutting cake that accompanied this cake, and was home to the 21 candles.
This cake has been weeks in the making. All up (and yes, I counted) there were approximately 170 handmade flowers/buds/leaves that went onto this cake! So so so much work. It was quite difficult for me to visualise how this cake would actually look, but I must admit I am thrilled with how it turned out! Although I really enjoyed making it, I was glad to send it on its way, as flowers have taken over many rooms of my house in recent weeks, and with young kids around, that's a nervous few weeks!
The function room looked very pretty, with tortured willow lining the perimeter, fairylights strung in all the willow, and coloured tealights everywhere. The birthday girl is studying Interior Design. It was a dress-up party and she had the most EXQUISITE Tinkerbell costume that she made herself. She looked like she had flown straight out of the movie - I must upload the pic I took!

Built some cakes for the bakery, unfortunately they were too big to fit in it! Goodness... :D I'm just keeping these for now. Too pretty to disassemble...

Cooking day - I surprised myself today, I don't spend a lot of time baking, working, photography & doing our daily tasks, keeps me very busy. Today I had a good excuse to bake a cake as a friend's daughter has just had a baby. Remembering what it was like, different ones popping in to say congratulations & have a cuddle it's nice to offer a cuppa & with a home-made treat. Being a new mum, one doesn't get the chance to bake. I made a Sand cake, always popular cake over the years with my family. I dropped it off, had a cuddle then came home & made a pot of carrot & red lentil soup. Good day for it as it has been raining all day.

Completed cake.
The base is 12 inches square and the overall height is 30 inches. There are 6 layers of cake in the lower 12 inches of this fondant covered cake. The upper 18 inches of the structure is made from rice cereal treats covered in royal icing to smooth it out before applying the fondant. The upper portion has a wooden dowel rod embedded inside for support. The dowel extends down through the cake and cake boards to the base. All of the tower elements were added by adhering brown fondant strips to the cake.

Handmade fondant decorations (I made my own moulds for the shells).

Looks like a wedding, but its a birthday cake for Harriet who turned 91! She was a member of the VERY first female platoon of Marines...how cool is that! That was in 1942, after she went to college for her four year degree...also unusual for that time. It was seriously an honor to make her birthday cake!
