Here's Sarah in her party dress! (I do seem obsessed with little black dresses don't I!).
I was tasked with making a cake to reflect a shoe fan, who can't decide which shoes to wear ... or indeed which clutch bag to choose! (sounds like a girl after my own heart!).
By sitting her on a giant parcel I also managed to factor in a loopy bow - I have wanted to have
a go at a loopy bow for a long time - there are some fabulous examples here on flickr - I just hope I did them justice! ..... This bow by the wonderful Christina inspired me most - I loved the idea of a contrasting edging.
I had planned to do a big shoe on a shoe box but chickened out and went for my usual staple, safe option of a figurine and items reflecting her interests! - but huge thanks to Jules for letting me pick her brains on the big shoe idea (she is the queen of the fondant shoe!).
The black specks on the cake are the black glitter I used to bling up the shoes!
As usual, the figure face is modelled using Aine2 'heads up tutorial'. If you want to make faces like this you simply HAVE to buy Lorraine's tutorial on making heads!
'heads up tutorial' it's the best few pounds I ever spent!
12" x 8" cake on 15" x 12" board - vanilla sponge with strawberry jam and vanilla buttercream filling.
Hand bags and figurine hand modelled, for the shoes I used the Jem shoe template (Thanks to Liz for lending this to me again! - I've used this twice now, Liz hasn't even used it yet!)
Cooking day - I surprised myself today, I don't spend a lot of time baking, working, photography & doing our daily tasks, keeps me very busy. Today I had a good excuse to bake a cake as a friend's daughter has just had a baby. Remembering what it was like, different ones popping in to say congratulations & have a cuddle it's nice to offer a cuppa & with a home-made treat. Being a new mum, one doesn't get the chance to bake. I made a Sand cake, always popular cake over the years with my family. I dropped it off, had a cuddle then came home & made a pot of carrot & red lentil soup. Good day for it as it has been raining all day.
I loved this cake! The bride brought in serveral photos of cakes in this swirly style. I'm not sure where she found them, but thank you to those cake artists! It's all done in fondant, with the border and small dots in royal icing. ANd yes, it is supposed to be an "M" on the front there, the bride wanted to incortporate their initial.
This is part of the crazy weddding weekend - on Saturday I had the woodland wedding cake, this one, the small wedding cake and the purple flowers wedding cake. Too many deliveries!
I love these little cakes from Publix. They are so yummy but if it is just going to be our family celebrating, we don't have a ton of leftovers.
I made a banner for jumpcut group "Show Your Love"
With jumpcut you can import your flickr sets. It's insanely easy to make a slideshow (with music) of you and your hunny.

Looks like a wedding, but its a birthday cake for Harriet who turned 91! She was a member of the VERY first female platoon of Marines...how cool is that! That was in 1942, after she went to college for her four year degree...also unusual for that time. It was seriously an honor to make her birthday cake!
Fabulous flourless chocolate cake with ground almonds. Not too sweet, and oh so chocolaty!
Decorated for Passover with fresh raspberries and cocoa.
