CSX 8426 & 8108 lead train R-352 down the P&W Sub at West Pittsburg, PA on December 31, 1993. The track on the far left was the P&LE, and the two middle tracks comprised the "ramp".

CSX U979-13 hits double track at Lynn as it heads south to Corbin. Unfortunately, the train would only get 9 more miles down the tracks before they struck an individual in downtown Falmouth, halting the train for an extended period of time. My thoughts go out to the Crew, First Responders and the family of the individual..

June 11, 2016: CSX Autorack Train Q211 (Louisville, Ky-Cayce, SC) powers Southbound on the old CSX Western & Atlantic Subdivision at Kingston, GA with an SD70MAC EMD engine leading an AC4400CW GE.
CSX 8583 leads Q-217 in the gloom at SINNS (CP17Y) in Port Vue, PA on May 25, 1997. The weather was abysmal this day, much the same as it has been for the last 5 days in Upstate NY in 2025.
CSX X583 makes an early morning appearance nearing Monroe with a the Seaboard System Heritage unit leading the way with a nice block of coal loads on the head end.
CSX R231 continues its assault on the mainline between Martin and Hazard as it heads for the Leatherwood Branch
A pair of CSX GE's (C40-8W, ES44AH) power a Northbound string of empty ethanol tanker cars across the Etowah River near Cartersville, GA on the CSX W&A Subdivision. I checked my records, and the last time I caught the lead engine was in December of 2006, and then it was in the YN2 paint scheme that I hate to see vanish.
CSX train Y201 dicks around in West Springfield yard before heading to work Placo In West Springfield, MA.
CSX 9004 leads one of the intermodal trains West at Center Street in Versailles, PA on December 21, 2000. The CPL signals were still in use at that time.
CSX GP30M 4264, still in B&O blue, rests at the engine terminal at New Castle, PA on August 29, 1993.
Catching a CSX SD70MAC on the point of of a UP train was probably rarer than catching a heritage unit on the point. I’ll take it either way.
Big curve at Krieder earlier this AM. Like Grumpy will say, needs some selective tree trimming here to make this shot better.
CSX D736 heads south underneath the Pere Marquette Searchlights at Kearsley where the CSX Saginaw Sub crosses CNs Flint Sub.
CSX 6501 in B&O blue leads Q376 down the ramp at West Pittsburg, PA on April 25, 1993. The P&W Sub is the line on the far right and the P&LE main is to the left of the 6501. The last time I passed through here in 2016, this location was totally grown in.
One of those cases when you go out for 1, then find another as well. While out for CSXT 911 on M203, CSX B637 ran ahead of them with a CN SD70M-2 leader.

The cloud deck in the background marred what had been a nice afternoon chase of rail train W019 in February 2025. It emerged from the clouds in Greenwich allowing one last end-of-the-day sunny shot.
Following the annual CSX Santa Train has become one of my favorite railfan traditions. The weather is often not the best but it is such a cool operation and it's great to see and meet many of the internet names from Flickr and FB. This year CSX timed one of the first runs of it's latest mullet heritage unit with leading the Santa Train. And engineer Scott 'Scooter' Steffey timed his last run before retirement with running this year's train. What a way to go out. He appeared to be having a great time often playing the best rendition of Jingle Bells that a GEVO horn can make. Here the train is pulling into Elkhorn City, KY at 7:01 AM for it's first stop on the former Clinchfield. Sunrise on the date would have been at 7:17 on this cloudy day. So it was quite dark taking this shot. I've often said that these modern cameras see better in the dark than I do and this shot proves it. Other than blowing out the headlight (I have to get wider), I'm pretty happy with it.
