CSX K447 splits the signals at Lynn

A long westbound manifest has reached the CSX Intermodal yard in North Baltimore, Oh. (6/12/16)

Come già detto, lontano dai centri abitati, le uniche occasioni per sfruttare qualche cavalcavia per realizzare le mie riprese, si son fin'ora presentate solo in prossimità dei moderni scali intermodali dove, per evitare lunghe code durante le manovre di composizione e scomposizione dei convogli, le varie amministrazioni si son viste costrette a rimpiazzare i tanto cari passaggi a livello con queste opere.

Nella foto nella fattispecie ci troviamo a ovest di North Baltimore, un paesino sperduto nel Nord dell'Ohio dove CSX ha ritenuto conveniente aprire nel 2011 un moderno scalo intermodale di "scalo" dove fosse possibile smistare e gestire gli ingenti traffici provenienti dall'Illinois per poi smistarli verso le mete del network aziendale verso gli stati orientali statunitensi, per assistere al transito di un lungo "manifest" affidato ad una coppia di Gevo ed una coppia di GP dirette probabilmente in qualche scalo per manovre. CSX 2233 is the leader of a slug set that has been added to the head end of E-0168 at Edinau, PA on May 2, 1994. CSX was putting most trains down the P&W sub while track work was being done on the ex P&LE. Helpers were used to assist the trains on the tortuous P&W Sub. The train that was just ahead of this one also received a helper at Edinau, seen here:

CSX 7562 leads an Eastbound off the Shore at CP359 in Perinton, NY on August 2, 2026. I scored 6 trains in an hour when I went out to catch the Seaboard heritage unit. I can't get used to the trains that have only 1 unit leading. It just doesn't seem right.

Chessie cat GP30m 4200 leads a colrful mix of power on a Westbound that is parked at New Castle Yard in Mahoningtown, PA on January 1, 1994. That 3rd unit, the 6622, became Trudy's favorite CSX engine as she got to run it a little bit one night on the Three Rivers Railway local when it was working at New Castle.

CSX 5933 leads intermodal train Q-135 by MK "Tower" at Juniper Street in Versailles, PA on December 30, 1997.

On 2006, a local CSX Railroad crew brings a CSX train ut of an industrial area near Rozzelle's Ferry Road in Charlotte, North Carolina using a GP38-2 and MP15DC as power.

CSX 8624 leads K-385 at Wampum, PA on January 7, 1994. The train is passing under Conrail's Youngstown Line. This was back when CSX was interesting, you never knew what kind of power would show up on the next train. Kind of hard for me to be interested in the endless parade of GEVO's that are today's standard power.

U23B #9553 leads a MOW consist in Oak Ridge, TN.

CSX 8092 leads a westbound freight past CP 359, in Fairport, N.Y., at dusk in June 2002.

CSX 2026 and 250 in the 250 paint schemes lead M363 off the West Shore Branch at CP382 in Chili, NY on July 22, 2026. Since they were coming through the area I figured I might as well go see them. They are not my favorite by any means as the DL 1776 is at the top of my list for the best scheme.

CSX 8575 leads empty hopper train E-918 on ex P&LE trackage at MP33 at East Monongahela, PA on March 28, 1997.

Deshler, Ohio in NW Ohio is sometimes called the Crossroads of the B&O. In 2026, it remains a good spot to spend some time for Signal Saturday. The Toledo Sub side still has quite a few former B&O CPL signals from the 1920's. And the Deshler rail park makes it a nice place to hang out on a summer morning. I had a chance to spend some early morning time there for a few days in summer 2025. Train M560 is a daily Queensgate to Dewitt manifest that takes the turn from the Toledo Sub north to the Willard sub east. It passes this CPL in the process. The CM44AC was rebuilt from YN2 #138 in 2024 and is still in relatively good paint on 8/1/2025.

A rare freight train in the form of CSX O034 drops ties along the Niagara Branch heading north.

The Story: Nothing super special, just some old school power on an east bound CSX mixed freight train, just past MP QA11 on the CSX Trenton Sub.

Northbound CSX gets rounded up by Northbound UP loaded coal (UP shown is DPU) at Eckards, IA

Lots of buzz going on during the day as folks tried to keep up with the P001-08 as it flew up the CE&D then west on the STL Line. A well timed OS gave me enough time to fly over HN Cabin in Washington Park.

HN Cabin is a former B&O facility reported to be the office for the local CSX police. The B&O Illinois Sub is the single track on the right and recently OWLS crossings were installed between it and the double track A&S.
