Coaling tower this time. Here si CSX train #335, a Walbridge to Grand Rapids evening/overnight turn, passing the coaling tower at the grass covered Toledo Terminal engine facility. I have the date on the slide as 8/13/1988 but see I previously posted one as 8/7/1988 which I now think is wrong. NR Tower might correct me since he was there too. The normal assignment for the F units at this time was the the roadrailer that ran out of Detroit but on days off they would sometimes be used on this out and back turn. We would use the 800 tracing number to know if they were in Walbridge or not. And on this day it worked out that they were.

A Tier 4 ET44AH leads a string of CSX power, seen here stopped at the Junta Tower signal in Cartersville, GA. The power belongs to Etowah Subdivision freight train CSX Q539-10, and is in the process of backing up to Junta Yard on the W&A Subdivision side to drop off an engine before continuing its run south.
CSX M400 makes its way into Florence, SC on the final stretch of the crews overnight trip to Waycross, GA
NS E23 drifts downhill to the CSX yard in Lynchburg, where it will drop off its train for interchange and pick up outbound cars to return to NS. This interchange requires a trip down a windy, hilly connection from the higher-elevation Southern main to the CSX, which runs much closer to river level. Much of the connector is on a former section of the Southern's main. The Southern Railway logo on the bridge is a very nice touch and is in good condition after all these years.
Breakfast is served? P052 running late into Lorton is crossing the James River Bridge in beautiful morning light

CSX empties roll south on the Logan Sub passing EE Ranger as they head to Peach Creek and eventually Powellton Mine.
I followed CSX's local from Parma yard down to Clark Ave yard and around Cleveland's Industrial Flats for a good bit of 2/1/2023. Clark Ave was the center of operation in Cleveland for the B&O but now a daily local comes down from Parma, switches customers and goes back. Today they used a mother-slug set because they had a bigger train going up the hill. It's often just one unit. After switching around in Clark Ave, they got the jackknife bridge over the Cuyahoga lowered and went to work Zaclon Chemical which is what they're doing in this view. Zaclon bought a Dupont plant that used to be in this location, Most of it has been torn down and remediated (good thing, it was decrepit). Not a large facility now but they do a good business with tank cars. Part of the Cleveland Cliffs Cleveland Works is in the background. Until today, I wasn't sure that CSX came over to service Zaclon; I thought it might be the Cleveland Work's railway (known as the CROW)
CSX loaded grain train G521 meanders down the Cartersville Sub nearing its destination of Rockmart, GA. This old SAL branch only sees a local and an occasional grain train.
CSX Waycross, GA - to - Fernandina Beach, FL local train A772 rolls east through Yulee, FL on 14 May 1994. The eclectic mix of former Chessie and Seaboard Coast Line power was common at this time but didn't last much longer after this shot was taken.
This former SAL line is now operated by the First Coast Railroad, a G&W clone.
CSX 3407 takes loaded coal train C760 south by the C&O signals standing guard at Dawkins. They would meet loaded train C309 here and the crews would exchange some chatter about the "paparazzi" taking photos of their trains.
A pair of CSX motors snake their way into Maple Lake on CP 645. I got notified about this train when it was leaving St. Paul, and I wasn't gonna pass up the opportunity to shoot a CSX MAC leading on a clear winter afternoon.
CSX 6072 and another geep shove a bunch of cars down the branch to the ISS interchange in Mahoningtown, PA on May 22, 1993. I believe that ISS is now called the New Castle Industrial RR?.
CSX 6828 in the stealth pant scheme leads the Eastbound Three Rivers Railway freight by the old P&LE station at West Pittsburg, PA on the evening of June 23, 1993. The train is on the ex P&LE main. I don't recall much about these TRR trains except that they always seemed to run after dark, except during the longest days of Summer.
A year ago Y32210 traverses the stem of the Downtown Spur, former SAL main to their Miami station, back to reenter the South Florida Rail Corridor (CSX Miami Sub) to return to Hialeah Yard. Currently I am modeling a GP38-3 in HO to possibly run on various layouts, but it can't be 2055 since 2055 has early model radiators. Very cool crew on board.
CP 7043 is leading CSX K026-23 which has just changed crews at North Baltimore. Q135-23 is crossing all the way over and pulling into the yard on the lead to the left in this view and the oil train will have to wait a few minutes for the long intermodal with a cut of autoracks on the end to clear the crossovers. North Baltimore, OH 5/24/2020
A pair of widenose Dash 8s split the searchlights at Napier Road on the Plymouth Subdivision. The Detroit to Grand Rapids train (L302-10) features a high and wide load and idler flats this evening on the head pin.
An ES44AH leads the CSX Southbound Coal Train, as it powers up the grade at Emerson, GA passing the updated signals at North Emerson on the CSX W&A Subdivision.
A North bound CSX train heads out of Bennett Yard at Charleston, SC with the last daylight remaining.
7346 west helpers with CSX demonstrators on Montana Rail Link. Quite interesting all the matching foreign paint working this train.
The railroad was impressed enough with the SD70ACe's after their almost two week tour to place an order for 16 of them.
Real drawback was the exhaust of Mullen Tunnel exhibited on the third and fourth engines.
Think they went through a boxcar load of air filters and a lot of washing during the test.

Westbound CSX B658-11 operating as UP GDJCHJ-13 comes onto Union Pacific's Geneva Subdivision at Kedzie on a subzero day in the City of Chicago. Train Symbol is Empty Ethanol from Charlotte NC to Mason City IA. The once-manned Kedzie St Interlocking tower/station stop still stands to the right of the lead locomotives.
