Students in a wildlife management course participate in a controlled burn at Selu Conservancy. Approximately once every three years the fields at Selu are set on fire to restore the health of the field and return nutrients to the soil.

Eight students from the Charter School for Applied Technologies were welcomed to the Buffalo District as part of a Job Shadow Day on March 14, 2013. The students talked to professionals, and were able to see first-hand what a career is really like, as well as received advice on college majors and learn about the Corps of Engineers.

 

The day, organized by the Equal Employment Opportunity office, ended with a lunch and learn with the Buffalo District EEO officer on jobs in the Federal government. The students shadowed professional in a number of fields including: economics, military, graphic arts, safety, security, biochemistry, law, and chemistry. 1950. július 14-én, a vítkovi csata 530. évfordulója alkalmából került felállításra a Nemzeti Felszabadítási Emlékmű tetején Zsizska János cseh huszita hadvezért ábrázoló lovasszobor, mely a világ 10 legmagasabb lovasszobrainak az egyike: a mészkő talapzatával együtt 9 m magas, hossza 9,6 m, maga a szobornak a súlya 16,5 tonna, 120 bronz alkatrészből áll, és közel 5000 csavar fogja össze. A szobor 1931-1941 között készült el Ladislav Saloun, Jan Maratka és Bohumil Kafka cseh szobrászok közös munkájának az eredményeként.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District staff were fortunate to once again take part in the Charter School for Applied Technologies, Kenmore, NY annual Celebration of Reading event this week. Lead by Buffalo District Commander LTC Adam Czekanski, approximately 20 staff members connected with the elementary students through reading and highlighted the importance of life-long reading/learning, while exposing the students to the many different careers within the community.

Buffalo District team members were once again participated in the Celebration of Reading at the Charter School for Applied Technologies. The two main goals of the event are to: (1) highlight the importance of reading and education to young people, and (2) expose students to the broad spectrum of careers available to them.

 

"Supporting STEM activities and motivating students to read is not only part of the Corps of Engineers mission, but a mission that I fully support here in the Buffalo District," said MAJ Michael A. Busby, Buffalo District Deputy Commander
