Eight students from the Charter School for Applied Technologies were welcomed to the Buffalo District as part of a Job Shadow Day on March 14, 2013. The students talked to professionals, and were able to see first-hand what a career is really like, as well as received advice on college majors and learn about the Corps of Engineers.
The day, organized by the Equal Employment Opportunity office, ended with a lunch and learn with the Buffalo District EEO officer on jobs in the Federal government. The students shadowed professional in a number of fields including: economics, military, graphic arts, safety, security, biochemistry, law, and chemistry. Buffalo District team members were once again participated in the Celebration of Reading at the Charter School for Applied Technologies. The two main goals of the event are to: (1) highlight the importance of reading and education to young people, and (2) expose students to the broad spectrum of careers available to them.
"Supporting STEM activities and motivating students to read is not only part of the Corps of Engineers mission, but a mission that I fully support here in the Buffalo District," said MAJ Michael A. Busby, Buffalo District Deputy Commander
