A Szárhegyi csata emléktáblája. 1658. szeptember 6-i csata emléktáblája. 1658 nyár végén a gyergyói székelység védelem nélkül maradt. A Lázár István vezette székely csapatok Gyulafehérvárnál harcoltak Ali pasa török serege ellen. 1658. szeptember elején a Moldva felől támadó tatár és román rablók elfoglalták és kirabolták Maróshévizet és Ditrót. A Szárhegy alatti mocsaras területen azonban nem várt ellenállásba ütközött a rablóbanda. A székely Gábor diák vezetésével vették fel ellenük a harcot. Gábor deák nem volt katonaviselt ember, mint írástudó, tanítóként működött. Belátta, asszonyokkal, öregekkel, hadat nem járt ifjakkal nem veheti fel a nyílt harcot a tízszeres túlerőben lévő ellenséggel. A mintegy háromszáz, kaszával, kapával felfegyverzett falusi itt készült megvívni az ütközetet. Előhordták csupraikat, fazekaikat. A csuprokat beásták a vizenyős talajba, a fazekakat meg egy domb tetején, botok végére tűzték. Messziről a fazekak úgy festettek, mintha felvonuló katonaság sisakjai volnának. A tatárok be is dőltek a cselnek. A rablóbanda nem akart veszélyes, komoly csatát vállalni. Ők a szabad rablás, harácsolás érdekében jöttek. Meg is futottak a dombon át közeledő „ellenség” elől. A rablók lovai nehezen mozogtak a felázott talajon, lábuk beleszorult az elásott csuprokba. Sorra buktak fel a lovak és potyogtak a földre a támadók. Ekkor csaptak le rájuk az addig lesben álló székelyek. Sok rabló maradt holtan a csatatéren. Az otthonukat védő szántóvetők közül tizenöten estek el. Ebben a csatában harcolt a Puskás Klára, Történetét Jókai Mór megörökítette, aki miután a csatában hét ellenséggel is végzett, mint aki jól végezte dolgát, hazament és megszülte kisfiát… Ugyanis várandós volt. Fields which the students shadowed included: economics, military, graphic arts, safety, security, biochemistry, law, and chemistry. Buffalo District team members were once again participated in the Celebration of Reading at the Charter School for Applied Technologies. The two main goals of the event are to: (1) highlight the importance of reading and education to young people, and (2) expose students to the broad spectrum of careers available to them.
